View Full Version : Are you any good at catching?

Can you catch keys when they are thrown to you without dropping them?

Are you able to knock a ball back into play as you walk past a group of youngsters with nonchalance?

Are you good at skipping stones?

Can you pick up the basics of most new tasks or sport games within 20 minutes and then actually start to do better than the people who taught you?

Do you get on well with your superiors and could you easily go for a drink with them?

Do you get on well with your inferiors and do they invite you to socialise with them?

Can you hold court in a group of strangers?

Do people you know ask you for advice a lot?

If so I reckon you are an Alpha person

If not, then join my club. I'm crap at nearly all of the above!

So am I, but I'm a very good catcher. Don't think that and the rest of your questions are related though, what is the real question behind this thread

I just think that if you are a good catcher, you tend to be good at other things.

I see lots of people who effortlessly walk through life, making friends, being fabulous and catching keys (without going: 'No, don't throw them, don't... <try to catch, almost caught, fall between arms, fumble, drop>... I told you not to throw them!' <Huff>

Deavon, years ago there was a song (I think it was by The Hollies, but I could be wrong) about a guy who was good at everything. The song enumerated all the things he was good at. The narrator clearly envied him. But at the end of the song, the narrator said that the guy put a bullet through his own head. People who seem to effortlessly succeed at everything are not necessarily any happier than those who don't.

I'm dyspraxic so find the first four of those things impossible unless I REALLy concentrate.

The second lot I end up doing, even if I don't particularly like the taking control part.

so perhaps I'm an Alpha except for the dyspraxic chemical imbalance?

Well I'm only a good catcher due to a lot of juggling practice. I don't think I'd ever be good at most of the other things though. But never mind.

2) See 1.
3) I suppose so.
4) No, most certainly not - I'd need a lot of time.
5) (a) - yes. (B) - no.

7) No.
8) Yes - but only on "Do I need DD or SD RAM?". Not over what most people would consider "real" issues.

What's one of those then? Is that like the 'alpha male' in a group of gorillas? If so, I like the sound of that. Unless I just get all the lady gorillas ...

If you're good at all those things then you may be an Alpha, but if you admit it you're a prat! :gag:

I was a good runner, cyclist, and swimmer. All the things you need for Triathlon, but anything involving balls I'm totally crap at. Maybe I have balls enough.

I suppose I am lucky to be very gifted at all the things in this list.

However, I would like to add that perhaps my finest quality is in fact my immense capacity for modesty.

Thanks for the vote of confidence ;)

To be honest I generally find that if you're good at those things, then you're ... good at those things. And if you're good at other things then you're good at other things.

Just what the hell is an Alpha anyway? Sounds like a self-assigned status symbol to me, which would make the bearer of one a prat, as you so rightly pointed out.
