The 2nd Book launch for Blades’ Days Out is this Saturday at the Old Crown at Handsworth (that’s the one down from the Church), starting at 12 noon, I’ll be there until 2.15pm.

Buy yourself a copy of the book, forget all about the doldrums surrounding the Lane at the minute and relive some of the great times watching United – 5th May 1990 at Leicester and the perfect Sheffield double; the Fourth Division title season; promotions from the Third in ’84 and ’89; and the push to the Premier in ’06.

All the big cup wins over the years are there - amongst others Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Leeds, Blackburn, Sunderland, Palace, Coventry, et al. And of course the numerous wins and doubles over that shower at S6 are covered in some depth too.

The price of the book at the launch will be £10.

All welcome – up the Blades!

How old are you, any older then 20 and you'll not even be able to remember the 'great days' of being a Wednesday fan, the last 15yrs have been a bit depressing for you to say the least!

4-4 on th trophy count though so lets not even get into that one - its been said a million times, though Wednesday like to hark back to the early nineties when you nearly bankrupt yourself trying to play ball with the likes of Man U, Arsenal etc you're small fry like us when you look at the bigger picture, Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City will dominate English Football for years to come, so i cannot see any improvement on the Trophy count for either Sheffield team.

You can say its swings and roundabouts, but not these days, the big boys are here to stay and getting richer and bigger by the day.

Sorry it's going off topic, it wasn't my intention.
Stockers, we Owls know our place in the grand scheme of things at the moment.
It's not us who are throwing things out of the pram 'cause we haven't made the top six. We don't expect to be up there. Like yourselves, we are an average club in a very poor league.
Some Blades however, do think that it's their right to be up there, no question.
You're right, we're both small fry, and should both accept that we are Championship clubs for the foreseeable future.
I hope the Blades remember this when they start the build up for next season, and we don't have the 'play offs, no danger' predictions again.
I'll go with what Sham69 says.
We, of course, have to survive this years drop first.
We should be reight.

You're the one 'bragging' about 2-0 on a thread about a Blades book, obsession for men Earwiggo.

I would have predicted a top 6 finish this season before we sold Naughton, Walker, Killa and had Paddy banned for the season.

Next season i think mid table beckons for the Blades, we've sold too much talent over the last 18 months to warrent a place in the top 6, the sooner the board realise we need to spend to go up the better, until then we need to be a lot luckier with injuries (and drugs bans - :) ) if we want a place in the top 6.

Is there anybody left alive who remember's United's "great days"?

Sorry I forgot, merely doing better than Wednesday constitutes glory for you. The last 10 years must have been non-stop ecstacy for you, but one Premiership (relegation) season in 16 years is hardly the stuff of legend. People in glass houses and all that.

You haven't had any particularly big matches for the last 15yrs or any great days to speak of.

If any Wednesday fan can find a match of yours in the last 10yrs to beat the Blades v Forest Play Off semi Final i'd be amazed.....fair do's we didn't win anything but at least our fans are getting a glimmer of hope every now and again, Hillsborough has been in a stale state for the best part of a decade. A match that gets the ground rocking like the Lane has been would spell all sorts of health and safety issues for you lot :)

They don't half like getting above there station - a league Cup Win 19yrs ago and its like they've won the Champions League and PL Title rolled into one! Don't get me wrong, a good day out, plenty of ale, banter with the fans, cracking match, winning as the underdog, see your team lifting its first trophy in 56yrs, must be the stuff dreams are made of, but harping on about it years later does ting of the uncle albert "during the war".

I had a 20yr old giving me stick the other day about how great Wednesday were, the sad fact is he cannot even remember them being a PL team its that long ago.

Still you've got to give the old timers there day in the sun and let them write off our season in the PL as if it didn't happen. I was there when we beat Arsenal, Tottenham, Fulham, Middlesborough, West Ham at the Lane, i've seen Rooney, Drogba, Lampard, Ballack, van Persie, plus many other world class player gracing the turf at Bramall Lane......something the younger generation of Wednesday fan cannot say.

Hay ho, blades tend to be realists, Wednesday fans seem to have a very over inflated opinion of themselves.

You saw your team beat Fulham, Boro and West Ham?! Now that's what the stuff of dreams is made of, I bet the grandkids will never tire of hearing about those legendary games. :)

You saw those players in your single recent Prem season, fair enough, but we've all got our memories from our golden years. Somehow I don't think the likes of Ballack and Van Persie will go down as all time greats in the English game, but then again from an earlier era unlike most of your fans I've seen the likes of Dalglish, Rush, Keegan, Lineker etc play at Hillsborough in front of 40k+ crowds whilst our beloved neighbours were playing in front of 10k averages in a lower division.

My God, that must have been awful for you, missing class like that. Shame on Arsenal for even making you play, after all in comparison all they had to cope with were these barely noticeable absences (from the match report)

The Frenchman already had to cope without Thierry Henry (hamstring), Freddie Ljungberg (hamstring), William Gallas (thigh), Emmanuel Eboue (ankle) and Abou Diaby (ankle). Then Emmanuel Adebayor (thigh), Johan Djourou (hamstring), Theo Walcott (back) and Alex Hleb (shin) joined them on the sidelines. With Cesc Fabregas, Jeremie Aliadiere, Alex Song and Julio Baptista suffering from colds, Arsenal's resources were severely stretched for their third game in seven days.
