I have a great love for all things Bulgarian! Being married to a BG lady makes all the difference!
If anybody is interersted in BG wants to travel has stories to tell, wants to do business etc then please get in touch.

Set up interrest group etc?

All ideas i want to hear about!

My aim is to set up a BG bar cafe or something like that!

Thanks and Nazdravi (cheers)

My UK passport was issued by the British Embassy in Sophia, after a night-time taxi journey across Bulgaria from a Black Sea coastal resort. Went to see the total eclipse of the sun in Bulgaria a few years back, and despite losing my passport - fell in love with a beautiful country.

I know quite a few people now who have been on holiday there and remarked how beautiful it is and cheap!!

As yet I've never been...but it is on my list!!

Ive been there a few times - mainly in the 90s though. Back then it was a massively under-rated place for a holiday (and probably still is). The beaches are lovely and the weather really good. Up in the mountains and round sofia really nice too. Lots of soviet monuments which obviously give a different feel compared to places like rome or vienna where everything is really old!

Having said that, the hotels weren't great but were really cheap. Nowadays I prefer a bit more luxury..so not sure Id go back - but prepared to be corrected....

Yes He was a great uncle.

I Love the wombles.

Only joking, I do like travelling to european cities and recently have been venturing further east. Have been to Czech Rep in spring and going to Poland in November.

I went when I was really young skiiing. Only memories of it are whole cooked chickens on a conveyour belt for a pound and a taxi driver with a litre bottle of vodka instead of a handbrake. He took us to Sophia and back drinking half the vodka while we looked round. However these memories may have been distorted by time and my youthful imagination back then. :D

Zdravey!

Priatno mi e?

That's about the only Bulgarian I know; jI have a Bulgarian friend but every time she tries to teach me something I'm very drunk and I forget soon after :)

Check out some Ladytron stuff for Bulgarian lyrics, such as:

Bulgarian is very similar to Russian. Bulgarians will tell you that the Cyrillic alphabet was invented by a Bulgarian. Bulgarians are not Slavs though (although culturally they are to a large extent). Don't be fooled by the tourist resorts - there is still a lot of poverty and underdevelopment in Bulgaria, particularly noticeable if you get out of the main urban areas. Bulgaria is hoping to join the EU by 2007 (together with Romania). I hope they make it. I like Bulgarians too.

went to sunny beach in bulgaria last year for my holiday and absolutely loved it - everything is so cheap, so anyone thinking of going should go within next couple of years as i think they are joining EU and that will be an end to a good thing. beach was gorgeous - people so friendly and polite - lots and lots of cheap shops selling fake gear - golf buggies, scooters etc to ride along beach front - i shall be definitely going back there next year. drinks are about 50p

are you going to sunny beach?

I'm sure you'll enjoy it - the good thing there at the moment is that it is difficult to get rid of your money - quite unique these days!

a couple of things to be wary of though - don't change your money with anyone on the street - there is a lot of counterfeit money about (and fags too) - in fact nearly everything is counterfeit - but there are some good bargains to be had.

I've just bought a house well of the beaten track in Bulgaria- it's a stunning country with open, friendly people. I hate the way the developers are messing up the ski and coastal resorts..anyway, I need to learn the language and want to find a Bulgarian in Sheffield/Chesterfield who can help me learn. I can't afford to pay but can offer English lessons (as a qualified TEFL tutor),admin or child-minding in return!
