Back in the early 80s we lived in a fantastic shared student house in Priory Place, Nether Edge, with students on all 3 floors. (We lived on the ground floor.) We reckoned it was haunted. Anyone else live there (no 3 I think it was) over the years? If so I'd love to know if you heard or saw anything strange (and not after one of our famous boozy parties in the cellar either!)

I didn't live at Priory Place but I once went to a party in a cellar there.
It must have been in the early 1980s and from what I remember, which admittedly isn't much, people had candles and sort of burnt their names into the white paint on the ceiling.
I've absolutely no idea who threw the party, it was one of those that you get invited to while you're at the pub.
It was by no means a sober occasion!

Hi Dishwasher,
I'm sure it was our party!! Our parties were famous, we held them in the cellar which you went into from outside, round the back. It had different rooms and low ceilings, candles like you say and a lot of home brew generously made by my flatmate Joe! Sometimes I'd catch people in the kitchen upstairs raiding the fridge which would pee me off especially if I hadn't a clue who they were! You weren't guilty of that were you?
Great thing about having a cellar accessed externally was that you didn't have to clear up from one party to the next! We just left all the mess!

My other half lived there for a while before I knew them.
It was one of the best party houses in Sheffield.

Good evening evamermaid!
No - I didn't pinch any scram from your fridge while I was at my one-and-only Priory Place Party!
As if I would!
I'd be more likely to have donned the marrigolds and sorted out your pots and pans.
I didn't even know the cellar was connected to the kitchen.
No, it was a 'back from the pub' job. In the early 1980s , it was almost impossible to go to a boozer and not get invited back to some sort of party. Or am I just looking at life (retrospectively) through rose-tinted glasses?
Perhaps it's possible to go to pubs today and get invited to parties, I don't know.
I think the Priory Place gaff has been 'gentrified' now but I pass it frequently (it's on my way home from town) and I wonder every time about who lives there now.

Blimey, Dishwasher and everyone, it's over a year since I last visited this site!! So you're probably long gone... but, no, the cellar wasn't connected to the kitchen, but you had to go through it to go to the loo.
We had a grey and white cat called Lynyrd who used to make herself scarce during our parties. In our ground floor flat there was me, Joe, Oscar and Becca (who knew Jeremy Clarkson... name drop... who visited us sometimes).
The Stannilands lived next door - an old couple with their elderly daughter who used to sunbathe all the time and enjoy decorating their house with souvenirs from Benidorn.
Haven't been back there for YEARS. Did go back to the Crookes area quite recently though.
