View Full Version : Ricky Martin accounces "I'm gay"
Ricky Martin has announced that he is gay (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8594121.stm), apparently ending "years of speculation" about it.
Wow, you don't say.
Any bloke who can dance as well him has got to be gay.
So Ricky Martin has accounced to the world that he is gay. I was reading here (http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/music/article7080923.ece)
I really can't say that I'm at all shocked. Nor can I say that it makes any difference what his or anyone else's sexual pref is.
Where you surprised?
that should read annonced but it wont let me edit it!
bendyman 30-03-2010, 08:01 thats it then, will he be drinking at demseys
Who? (Quick visit to google) .. Oh, him. Oh. That's made a real difference to my day .. *chuckle*
funkymiss 30-03-2010, 08:02 So 'She bangs' was all a ruse?

Kthebean 30-03-2010, 08:13 Its a bit like when someone tells you a celebrity has died and you thought they were already dead anyway..
brianthedog 30-03-2010, 08:15 The Daily Mash (http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/celebrity/i-have-feet%2c-says-ricky-martin-201003302600/) has an article about Ricky Martin too...
dieselbabe 30-03-2010, 08:19 No shock to me also, when i read he had his kids and said he had them from a surrogacy mother got me thinking he must be gay. Same with George Michael, my sister is a huge fan and still is, i kept telling her from his wham days he was gay but she wont have it till he finally came out.
Plain Talker 30-03-2010, 08:20 Does it actually matter?

brianthedog 30-03-2010, 08:26 Does it actually matter?
Probably a question better directed at Ricky - he's the one who announced it.
bendyman 30-03-2010, 08:37 Probably a question better directed at Ricky - he's the one who announced it.

But what does it actually matter?
Sir Elton John is gay. That did not stop me being totally awestruck at his talent and abilities when I went to a live concert of his in Northants about ten years ago. He did about two hours straight, and never flagged, it was all of the same calibre all the way through.
Freddie Mercury was gay... It didn't stop him being the ultimate pop star-showman, did it? his being gay had no effect on his talent as a musician and entertainer.
George Michael is gay... He still entertained us with some brilliant music.
Rock Hudson was gay, (as was Montgomery Clift, apparently) but that did not stop him delighting millions with his film career...
John Barrowman:- he is gay but it doesn't stop us sighing over his cheeky grin and sparkling eyes... (oh and he can sing an act, too, incidentally *sigh* )
We have the fabulously talented Sir Derek Jacobi, (whom I have adored as an actor since "I Claudius") and Sir Ian McKellen...
It matters not one jot that they are gay. They are people first.
brianthedog 30-03-2010, 08:44 I don't think anyone has implied that he is less of a person for being gay. More that him coming out and announcing it is stating the bleeding obvious.
Why has it taken him so long to climb out of the closet??
brianthedog 30-03-2010, 08:47 Why has it taken him so long to climb out of the closet??
Perhaps he couldn't get past all his shoes?!
Plain Talker 30-03-2010, 08:47 Why has it taken him so long to climb out of the closet??
Worry about the prejudice he may face from bigots, perhaps?
pennypie 30-03-2010, 08:47 I thought the story was an old one that had been revived. I honestly thought he had come out years ago.
missflirtuk 30-03-2010, 08:51 My mum's husband always says that David Beckham is gay. I think he just likes the word gay, oh and apparently Peter Andre is gay too. If it was up to him, and celeb he didn't like the look of would be gay. I think he wishes he was gay sometimes ;).
bendyman 30-03-2010, 08:52 is ricky martin the son of [bob martin],,,
Worry about the prejudice he may face from bigots, perhaps?
Possibly, because there's still plenty of them out there, but in my opinion he really should have done it sooner because it doesn't make a difference.
I suppose he traded on his latino lover image but Stephen Gately was a major boyband pin up and he managed to pull it off without losing fans.
A lot of them don't come out until they are famous and made loads of money.Maybe they feel it could hold them back coming out too early.
I dont think most of his fans will be bothered, as long as he dosent start the 'mincing' and accusing everyone of being homophobic. [Like a good few on this forum]
Homosexuality used to be illegal..
Then it became legal and acceptable......
I am dreading the day it becomes COMPULSORY !!!!!
Ghostrider 30-03-2010, 09:15 that should read annonced but it wont let me edit it!
Are you sure about that :hihi:
Fivetide 30-03-2010, 09:16 wow i'm so shocked no really i am honestly what a surprise.
/lies
laurajill 30-03-2010, 09:32 I like how he says he's proud to be a gay man. Why has it taken him all these years to come out then?
Ricky, we've known you were gay for years luv, stop trying to cash in on the 'coming out' band wagon.
boutiquechoc 30-03-2010, 09:32 Not really surprising though is it!!
Pity though, you lucky boys get to have him now grrrr
Chris_Sleeps 30-03-2010, 09:44 Homosexuality used to be illegal..
Then it became legal and acceptable......
I am dreading the day it becomes COMPULSORY !!!!!
I remember calling you a cretin on the Stephen Fry thread, and here you are again proving my point. How on Earth will homosexuality ever be compulsory? It'd be impossible for a start. You do know the dynamics of the sexual act, don't you? Stop and think before you type, it will help us all.
My prediction will be you'll roll out a "relax, it's only a joke. Have a laugh! Jees," statement again, but you may prove me wrong.

Posts like Nimrod's just make me feel sorry for people. He must be very insecure of his own sexuality to post drivel like that.
Treatment 30-03-2010, 09:52 Is there another Ricky Martin ? I thought that he was a big, fat, white bloke ?
epiphany 30-03-2010, 09:57 He's ghey as well.
Sir Elton John is gay... That did not stop me being totally awestruck at his talent and abilities when I went to a live concert of his in Northants about ten years ago. He did about two hours straight, and never flagged, it was all of the same calibre all the way through.
Then did he go all camp after that? Aw, that's made me chuckle PT!! :hihi:
foxforcefive 30-03-2010, 10:07 I love how the press make a story of someone 'coming out' like it affects the world in some way.
NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
those articles are fake!!
It isn't April Fools day yet, is it?
Oh, how could you all be so..................... nah, sorry - cant keep up the pretence.
Was RM the last one to realise it?
In other breaking news: rain is wet, the sun is hot, and Alistair
Darling's eyebrows make him look like a t***.
Welcome to the world of news we already knew
missymoo73 30-03-2010, 10:26 This isn't news I've known he was gay for ages he came out a few years ago. Who cares, good luck to the guy, still sexy.
:)
I'm shocked! Whatever next, Ashley Cole coming out?!?
plekhanov 30-03-2010, 10:46 I love how the press make a story of someone 'coming out' like it affects the world in some way.
Latin America where I expect he has a lot of his fan base is more homophobic than the UK or even the USA so a big star like him coming out may well have some affect. There are a good few out white male celebrities how many out latin american celebrities are there?

Similarly, how many male latin american celebrities are there?
GordonBennet 30-03-2010, 10:51 Does it actually matter?
Of course it does! Children could be listening to his music!
plekhanov 30-03-2010, 11:11 Similarly, how many male latin american celebrities are there?
Lots I expect in Latin America, few if any outside of football have broken through to become world famous in the way Ricky Martin has though.

PMSL, sorry, there was no pun intended there, Feargal! lol lol lol I never thought, then, about the *coff* single entendre I put... :D
alchresearch 30-03-2010, 11:43 I'd say he's a bit of a hypocrite. Spending all those years building up a heterosexual persona and singing songs about women when it was all a lie.
Does he have a new album out? It all sounds like hype to me.
funkymiss 30-03-2010, 11:55 I'd say he's a bit of a hypocrite. Spending all those years building up a heterosexual persona and singing songs about women when it was all a lie.

You sound genuinely hurt :hihi:
Ah, the old "I'm not homphobic, some of my best friends are gay" excuse.
Are you a friend of Dorothy as well?
Who's Dorothy ?????
Was RM the last one to realise it?
Nope- I knew a number of his travelling stage crew from a few years ago, and it was no secret at all amongst them that there were pretty boy groupies and no pretty girl groupies backstage.
alchresearch 30-03-2010, 13:39 You sound genuinely hurt :hihi:
The missus will be. I think she genuinely thoughtthat by going to his concerts and buying his music she thought she had a chance!
I like how he says he's proud to be a gay man. Why has it taken him all these years to come out then?
Ricky, we've known you were gay for years luv, stop trying to cash in on the 'coming out' band wagon.
Maybe he's only just discovered his true feelings :P
cressida 30-03-2010, 17:02 Doh I like Ricky, I once had a dream where we kissed in a nightclub too, it's just too much after hearing Jeremy Sheffield is gay

Idiot, you had a humour bypass or what ??? Go join the sad gits forum. If you cant find one then start one up yourself, you are highly qualified, in fact your talents are wasted on this forum. You could send a glass eye to sleep. You make Gordon Brown sound interesting.
I bet you're not :hihi:

You need locking in a closet !!!!:hihi: I'm afraid the SF closet is full already, I've never known so many touchy people in my life before. Is it a forum or is it becoming a gay meeting place ????
rubydazzler 30-03-2010, 23:09 Who's Ricky Martin and why does anyone care?lol, who's Ricky Martin. *I know nothing of popular culture, I am too high minded for such trivia*
I've got a friend like you who pretends she knows nothing about anything, she asked me who Take That were a couple of weeks ago ...
See you, Halibut - I remember the High Court judge during a trial many years ago "Who are the Beatles? Are they some sort of beat combo"? That's you that is :hihi:
It's really raining now .... order in the gopher wood, we may need by morning.:o

Ricky Martin should get the Jeremy Clarkson award for 'Gay of the Year'.
He certainly knows how to go out on a 'bender'.
I think it is a bit sad that Ricky has to annouce what sexuality he is. He should be able to live how he wants too with who he wants to & not think he has to tell the world about it. It is his life. Why should he have to define who he is or anyone else for that matter. It is like giving into the ignorance whispers of society.
Gordon Brown in PM's question time, " What about the homosexuality bill ???"
Clive Betts answers "Pay it !!"

He did not HAVE to announce his sexual preferences, he chose to.
Cliff Richard never has and probably never will. He dosent have a problem with it. He just keeps people guessing.

You are so silly at times Nimrod. Yes, I do mean silly, and not funny.
You appear not to have realised that these silly remarks have all been done to death before and are simply boring. :headbang:
Back on topic - I actually didn't know who Ricky Martin was. But the guy appears to be glad to be gay (as Tom Robinson once sang) and now out of the closet. Has to be good news.
Edit: Gordon Brown in PM's question time, " What about the homosexuality bill ???"
Clive Betts answers "Pay it !!" If you want to make gay jokes - why not try the I'm Bored section and leave this thread to those who want to discuss the topic.
dazzler4 31-03-2010, 00:00 best of luck to him, many men struggle for years with feelings that they cannot face upto and try to live a lie to try and be seen and accepted as what is "normal". Having been there myself i can say that actually admitting what you are to those close to you and those that know you, is not easy.
it must be a weight off his shoulders no longer having to live a lie and trying to be something that just doesn't feel right.
rubydazzler 31-03-2010, 00:07 it must be a weight off his shoulders no longer having to live a lie and trying to be something that just doesn't feel right.I agree with all that you say, but as KtheBean said earlier in the thread, everyone always though he was anyway. Maybe he's 'announcing' it now because he's met 'the one'. Bet he's married by the end of the year.
BarmyArmy 31-03-2010, 00:12 :huh:Did Ricky Martin ever pretend to be straight
He did not HAVE to announce his sexual preferences, he chose to.
Cliff Richard never has and probably never will. He dosent have a problem with it. He just keeps people guessing.
Thats fine if he has chose to. I can't debate with that it is his choice. It just saddens me when people feel pressured into or think they have to suffer in silence which something he claimed he did in the past because "the big chiefs" in the music industry claimed everything he had earned & built around him would collapse. I find comments like that so shallow. It must be hard to work in an environment with narrow minded people like that. Which I guess he had to put up with a lot.
I thought Cliff Richard was married to a childhood sweetheart from the 1900's?

Wondered how long it would take for you to take the bait. How does it have to be good news to announce yourself a sexual deviant ???? You really do have a problem. Good old Cliff Richard dont have any hang ups about it, he dosent care a flying <Removed> who knows or dosent know.
Being gay is not a choice, poncing about and mincing IS!! If people kept their sexuality to themselves then nobody would know [or care]
I also believe in the sanctity of marriage and two people of the same sex acting out a 'marriage' ceremony is an insult to normal heterosexual marriage where the intention is to procreate, not indulge in perverted sexual practices. People have the right to be gay, I know it is not a choice, but they must be willing to be made fun of as well. Life is too short to be taken seriously all the time. I was born mixed nationality and made fun of. I also stammered as a child and was ridiculed. Did I care ??? No I did not.
Just get on with being quietly gay, dont make a religion of it then people like me wont find reason to take the p*ss. The more the law says "you must not", the more people will.
You come on a public forum and announce your civil ceremony and expect people not to laugh. Thousands laugh matey, but behind your back. Be a bit less 'touchy' about it and people wont even bother to laugh.

A workmate was like you, I think we knew he was gay before he did. He was made a fool of by a gay sexual predator who 'outed' him before he was ready. A real nasty piece of work, our mate had to have counselling he was so shocked, confused and ashamed. But nobody took the mick out of him, or laughed at him, everybody either supported him or kept quiet. He now has a dry sense of humour, never plays the 'homophobic card' ,is comfortable in his own skin and gets on with almost everybody. Newcomers dont even know he is gay.

I don't have any problems with being gay - whatever gave you that idea?
I too can laugh. My civil partnership last year coincided with Comic Relief Day. Not one to miss an opportunity for a good laugh, our photocall with assembled guests had us all wearing red noses. We raised £100. Not bad for a "perverted sexual deviant" with a sense of humour eh?
I don't need any advice from you on how I lead my life - but for the public record, I don't, as you have accused me of, make a religion of my sexuality.
How sad that, whenever a thread appears on a gay-related matter, up you pop with your stale, tired, old homophobic 'jokes'. No serious discussion, just another opportunity for you to make cheap pop-shots at homosexuals. Just take a look at your contributions to this discussion about Ricky Martin - bereft of any serious discussion.
So this Ricky Martin is now out of the closet. Good for him. And people like Nimrod will just have to get used to it - whether Ricky Martin minces or not. :)
Wondered how long it would take for you to take the bait. How does it have to be good news to announce yourself a sexual deviant ???? You really do have a problem.
The problem is yours old man - most sensible adults don't equate being gay with 'sexual deviancy'.
Good old Cliff Richard dont have any hang ups about it, he dosent care a flying f***k who knows or dosent know.
That'd be why he's never mentioned it then. Dimwit.
Being gay is not a choice, poncing about and mincing IS!! If people kept their sexuality to themselves then nobody would know [or care]
So people aren't allowed to be themselves in case it offends you? Get real.
I also believe in the sanctity of marriage and two people of the same sex acting out a 'marriage' ceremony is an insult to normal heterosexual marriage where the intention is to procreate, not indulge in perverted sexual practices.
No it isn't. Are you really so asinine as to believe that every heterosexual marriage is base on an intention to have children?
You come on a public forum and announce your civil ceremony and expect people not to laugh. Thousands laugh matey, but behind your back. Be a bit less 'touchy' about it and people wont even bother to laugh.
Thousands laugh? Believe me there are plenty more folks who laugh at prehistoric attitudes like yours than ever do about gay folk getting hitched.
A workmate was like you, I think we knew he was gay before he did. He was made a fool of by a gay sexual predator who 'outed' him before he was ready. So why do you think it's alright to go around calling gays 'sexual deviants'?
Plain Talker 31-03-2010, 07:32 Nimrod, your attitude is distasteful in the extreme, and offensive whatever way you look at it.
This thread was supposed to be about Ricky Martin.
As it's turned into a personal discussion about other forum members, it will be closed.
