Hello all,
I am sort of new to Sheffield and wanted to know of places where i can get to see live music (indie, jazz, funk, etc.) by local bands or otherwise. remember... the more the better. As well, is there a print/online guide listing these venues.
Cheers.
Ash
theres a free publication the mercury i think shows "club" acts. if thats any use.

Try buying The (Sheffield) Telegraph, it's a weekly paper out on a Friday which has a listing page with all gigs coming up the following week. It gives the venues, whos on and price.
The Boardwalk always puts on live bands and has local and more well known bands http://www.theboardwalklive.co.uk
As Silverjet says - the Telegraph has good listings - though not as thorough as when Martin Lilleker (local music expert) used to do them.
Also SANDMAN is monthly live music freebie mag - mainly indie - but does cover other stuff as well
http://www.sandmanmagazine.co.uk/
you can pick up the mag in clothes/record shops/pub etc
EXPOSED is another listing mag but glossy and quite enertaining if you can take it with apinch of salt & put up with its advertorials (buy an ad and they'll wriet you avery nice feature!) and sub-loaded style.
The (working mens) clubs paper IS still going - cannot remember what its called either - but if you want to catch up on good club turns or, just as likely, folk who once appeared in the comedy outtake of heats for the X factor - well worth picking up.
Ruskins on Tudor Square have free Jazz music every Wednesday Night and Friday lunchtime

The best resource I know of is the Sandman magazine.
Its usually dotted around in all music shops etc
