View Full Version : Why are audis so expensive? Sony 23-08-2005, 19:34 Just seen an A3 on ebay, 155 000miles on the clock, petrol, it went for £3350?????? Thats crazy money!!! Abdul 24-08-2005, 06:59 Nothing to do with Audi - that's stupid ebay prices for you! I thought resale prices of Audis were significantly less than other marques such as BMW and Mercedes. However, the likes of VW, Audi, Saab and Volvo have been attempting to improve their images recently (posh VWs, they used to be known as!) so this may have contributed to keeping resale values high. If you want cheap, buy a pre-owned Japanese or French car! Tony 24-08-2005, 09:26 I think that Audi's are holding their value better than both Mercedes and BMW these days. I recently sold a 2 1/2 year old one for... (gets calculator out) 78% of it's original value. Crikey, that's more then even I thought now I've worked it out :o In the time I had it not a single thing went wrong with it apart from the glove box catch sticking. I don't think you will find many BMW's or Mercedes doing that. Both of those that I've had broke down at least once, and were in and out of the dealer all the time for major and minor faults, like auto gear box failures! nick2 24-08-2005, 09:31 I think they keep their value because they are built like tanks and are very reliable. We have had ours nearly 5 years and nothing has gone wrong with it yet, according to the service log nothing went wrong for the previous owner either. pete_jim 24-08-2005, 09:32 We just traded in a 4yr old Audi and got 50% of what we paid for it, which I thought was a good deal. The quality of the Audi was way above anyhting else we had driven, better than a BMW we had a few years ago. Having said that we have a Honda which is much better to drive. Sony 24-08-2005, 14:51 I do really like a3's. Saying that though they are very expensive. Do you reckon that even having 155k on the clock and being "built like a tank" it'll last a good while?? fredsredhat 24-08-2005, 19:50 Originally posted by Sony . Do you reckon that even having 155k on the clock and being "built like a tank" it'll last a good while?? I had an Audi 80 that had 133k on it and it drove like new. It Really depends on the type of milage and engine size. For example a 1.0 engine being thrashed around town never drove below 4000rpm for 40 miles will wear a hell of a lot quicker than a 2.8 V6 drove at 1500rpm for 400 miles on the motorway. Also if it was a company car they are usually maintained regardless of cost. whereas someone who really struggled to buy the car might not afford to service it. If you want an Audi look at the car lot opposite the pugeot showroom on penistone rd. he has a couple of A4's for £2000!!!!!! ....Quality car. bulldog D 24-08-2005, 21:24 Nice cars but overpriced and expensive if it goes pear shaped personally I'd stop at a VW Passat as I cant see that much difference between them and the VW's better value for money. If you want prestige german then it's got to be a BMW or a Merc. And bear in mind BMW do own Rolls Royce and it doesn't get much better than that. Deavon 24-08-2005, 23:13 These are some of the best cars on the road. I would gladly pay more for an Audi because of their quality. pete_jim 25-08-2005, 08:20 Originally posted by bulldog D If you want prestige german then it's got to be a BMW or a Merc. [/B] Got to disagree with this as we had a BMW and wouldn't have another one, hideously expensive to service far more than the Audi. Whilst the quality of finish was good it certainly wasn't any better than the Audi. Also if you read the motoring press you cannot have missed the fact that Mercedes build quality has been atrocious for a few years and is only now just begining to climb back to where it should have been. There isn't a single BMW I would buy in preference to an Audi A6 3.0tdi Avant, even if it was twice the price. nick2 25-08-2005, 08:48 Originally posted by bulldog D If you want prestige german then it's got to be a BMW or a Merc. I think the new S4 looks much better than any BMW plus you won't have everyone thinking your a w**ker as you drive round in it. GHS1961 25-08-2005, 09:18 Another Audi fan here. Back driving an A6 after a few years flirtation with BMW (5 series) and Mercedes (C Class) and there is no question in my mind if you want VFM, a quality build and a lovely car to drive then Audi are beating the pants off their German opposition Sony 25-08-2005, 12:14 Originally posted by pete_jim I would buy in preference to an Audi A6 3.0tdi Avant, even if it was twice the price. Drove one on Sunday. The car is amazing. I found it amazing that the handbrake was a button!! The car just doesn't feel like a diesel, it pulls really really well!! I just don't need an A6 just yet, and A3 would do nicely. |
