Wonder if anyone ever thought of turning their toothbrush over and using the bristles on their tongue.

I do this every night and, occasionally, the roof of my mouth.

I did it once, but the glob of endoplasm went for me, and I killed it with my shoe.

I'm told it improves bad breath. In my case, I would need to shake'n'vac my entire tracheal regions, never mind collecting a few tastebuds on the back of a potato peeler.

Toothbrushes are OK, however this method gives much better results

Clinical results for the Colgate 360 are here, however no comparison is given to the method described above

Have used an ordinary tongue scraper for years. Yes, they really are good, but you still need to go to the dentist regularly ,and keep the rest of your mouth clean. They wouldnt get rid of bad breath if you smoked for instance, but its surprising the amount of plaque and bacteria you get on your tongue.Might buy one of those toothbrushes as well though.

If the back of your tongue is coated in greeny/yellow slime and your breath smells like a baby's nappy....get some Andrews Liver Salts down yer !! If you have a hangover too, it clears your head as it fizzes down your nose and out of your ears ;)

Alternatively you could try a VERY high colonic wash out :gag:

Pokinga bit of nobly rubber down your throat willjust make you puke.

I've brushed my tongue for years and the rubber bits on the back of the new wave of tooth brushes don’t get your tongue as clean as the bristles!

I have to do it very quickly though as it makes me gag :gag:

Don't beat about the bush DK, just tell it as it is. :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

I heard you let the tongue fur grow long enough to comb, then shave or scrape it off with the back edge of a broken bottle. They are wellard in Rovveram :D

Why not just use a toothbrush? Someone tell me who a bit of wobbly rubber that reminds me of the sole of a Chuck Taylor is going to remove tongue scum?

And anyway, if your tongue scum is bad it means you've got oral thrush so get yourself some pills!

I just use the toothbrush to scrub my tongue and the roof of my mouth. My dentist said thats where all the plaque "lurks".

The new toothbrushes suck big time, they dont do a thing. I have used a proper tongue scraper for years, its amazing what crap comes off when you give it a little scrape!! It can make you gag though, especially first thing in the morning but if, like me, you smoke and drink lots of tea its a great little device. My advice, get to Boots and buy one, they go for about £3 and forget the toothbrush ones, they arnt worth the bother.

yah s'pretty much what ive been thinking. theyre probably gonna bring out a toothbrush with 'advanced lighting mechanisms' to light up the inside of your mouth for more accurate cleaning. and charge you £5 more. stupid.

Ditto... I always brush my tongue after teeth and also brush over the roof of my mouth too... makes your mouth feel really clean a fresh! :D

i heard that toxins escaped from the tongue hence the reason for brushing

If you are having any form of bad breath issues I wholy recommend Dentyl PH.

This is the gooooood stuff!

I use it all the time, it's brill... here comes the science bit:

"When you swish and gargle, the advanced formula moves around the mouth powerfully attracting, lifting and absorbing the bacteria and debris that cause bad breath, plaque and gum disease. Rinse out and you will see what has been removed - proof that it really works."

Dentyl PH. Because I'm worth it!

(and I don't want 'Teacher Breath')

I've always brushed my tongue after brushing my teeth. Always use colgate plax too.

And I floss every day

It's still costing me a small mortgage at the dentist!

It's non alcoholic though! Whats the point in non alcoholic mouthwash? It's like low alcohol beer for tramps.

Incidentally, if you want to know if you have bad breath then just lick your finger and sniff it :D
(phew, I'm OK)
