View Full Version : Beef Jerky
chalicefc3 03-01-2004, 01:26 This stuff will either mean something to you or it simply won't - no need to explain what it is!!!
Question is: does anyone in the forum know of a place that i can purchase such a delicasy??
Pete1024 03-01-2004, 01:45 I know a 7-11 in Alexandria VA that does it but its a bit far. If you have a US passport maybe they'll let you buy some from th BX at Menwith Hill, but with all the security I doubt it.
Quickstop I think it is called in Sheffield train station.
The one big store on the left as you walk in off the street.
Ya know, the one that employs non-English talking staff, that only make an effort to be rude to you.
Beef Jerky, salty camel skin, Beef J.......
If you ask funke88 nicely he might post you some.
alert_bri 03-01-2004, 12:16 That's funny - the google Adwords banner at the top of this page may point you in the right direction!
Damn clever those adwords thingies... :D
'Whistlestop Food & Wine' is the name of the convenience store on the train station, and indeed I have noticed packs of Beef Jerky.
I, despite my curiosity, haven't dared buy and try any though!
Also be warned Whistlestop isn't the cheapest shop in the world!
...Heh, I had trouble finding the stuff in the UK in general, and when I saw some in the station shop I bit the (expensive) bullet and snagged a few packets.
Dead animal goodness

Maybe. You'd have to ask reeeeeal nice though.
I already had an order for beef jerky for my brother in Devon. He first ate it in South Africa and loves the stuff. We get it in our supermarkets in all different flavours. Personally I don't like it at all. Like chewing a rubber band.

cheers folks - i shall get down there asap. I first tried the stuff when a south african mate of mine brought some 'bilton' back from SA, and i fell in love with it - like i said, bit like marmite (love it or hate it).
My folks just brought me back two packs of 'Bridgford Beef Jerky' from New York and now i've eaten it all - i have the taste that i cant get rid of out of my mouth so i need to buy some more!!!

chalicefc3 13-01-2004, 17:37 well i went to whistlestop as had been suggested - i think the lady thought i was a little crazy when i took six packets to the counter with me - crazy for paying those ridiculous prices. Oh well, needless to say that i cained all six packets that same afternoon.
Who said that giving up smoking would save money - with all the foods im eating - im probably more out of pocket now. Oh well, role on the Champagne, Caviar, Madagascan King Prawns fished out the Indian Ocean yesterday, and bucket loads of beef jerky!!! lol
Sainsburys on Archer road sell it. :)

Yes they do - thanks for the info. i feel that i should roadtest beef jerky from as many venues as possible - so i have acquired 5 packs from sainsbury's. What is wrong with me??? LOL
geronimo 15-01-2004, 19:39 They sell a type of fish jerky in Iceland. I bought some to try when I went for some cans of beer , but the missis made me throw it away cos it stank the hotel room out, tastes nice though.

Hehe, sure it wasn't your socks ;)
Fish Jerky - suppose thats a bit like Bombay Duck that they used to sell in some Indians, not seen it for a while though. Probably banned under some EU legislation because its not duck and its not from Bombay.
Gonna have to try this Beef Jerky stuff, which aisle is it on at Sainsbury's or what is it near?
Crisps and snacks? Meat Products?
madmaxwestie 16-01-2004, 13:17 I like the sound of Beef Jerky, I'll try anything meaty that can run!

Mikey - you can go ask at the Deli meats counter in Archer Road Sainsbury's like myself and others have done. It would seem that my initial posting has prompted several people to go hunt it down.
Alternatively - if you go into the meats aisle (ham sliced etc), it is hanging up on a white clip holder. Took me ages to find though.
Verdict - in Sainsbury's (Rocking JC's Beef Jerky), much more flavour than the one found in Whistlestop down at the station - it is not as dry. However at £1.99 a packet, you might want to just try one pack to start with.
Whistlestop offers three types of flavours, and at £1.35 a packet, while less costly - could do with not being so shy on the volume content!!!
