Hi everybody, I was wondering if anyone else is enjoying this year's competition as much as I am.
Sachin Tendulker is just sublime to watch...as ever. Other notable performances thus far for me have been Kallis, Hayden, Raina, Muralitharan, Jayasuriya and others. I watched my first "Super over" too. Heart stopping excitement and drama you could'nt make up.

Although 20/20 is not my favourite form of the game, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching almost every match on ITV 4. Superb batting, terrific fielding and clever bowling, almost every match has had all of this and more. As I never see any televised live cricket, not being a Sky subscriber, I am grateful for the opportunity to see these world class players entertaining us with their immense talents.

I think they are somewhat at the mercy of the Indian TV network director TBH. :)

I agree that it's not always the best coverage but none of this has spoiled my enjoyment of the cricket which continues to be wonderful. The fielding in particular has reached new heights.

im enjoying it , i think its a breath of fresh air. Things can change in one over. Sachin is god as well apparently.
Ive got one question though. in the itv 4 coverage they refer to a catch in the field as a carbon kemal catch [ i think thats what they say, or something like that].
whats it mean

Hi there, It's a Karbonn Kemaal catch. It's the name of an Indian mobile telephone company who give an award for the "best" catch in a match.
The level of product placement in the IPL is the worst thing about it IMO.

None of this detracts from the cricket for me though. The standard of fielding is often breathtaking.
Sachin is not God...just the best batsman I have ever seen. :)

Hi, Karbonn (a mobile provider) is the sponser of basically the catch!, Kommall (sp) means in Indian 'magnificent / sublime'.

You will also hear a 'DLF Maximum' which is a six, again the six is sponsered by DLF.

Also, a 'Citi moment of success' which is a point where the match turns on it's head, which could be the losing of a wicket or loads of 6's in an over, to tilt the result that was expected.

It's all about bringing money into the game.

Maybe for next season we could see the 'Sheffield Forum Run Out'!! :hihi:

Ps. I googled all the above last week myself :hihi:

I'm just waiting for the commentators to get all sponsered sayings into one sentence. Maybe a team needs 1 run from 2 overs. When the batter whacks it for a dlf maximum BUT shock horror a fielder takes a Karbonn Komall catch just inside the boundary, all out. Which brings a Citi moment of success for the other team  Or something like that!!

I can hear the Cha-Ching of cash registers already!

Oh yeah and don't forget the 'Maxx Mobile Time out'

And the DLF blimp at every game, i feel i know their company inside out now!! Biggest tyre maker in India... etc

Ahhh I did wonder about the award for the catch. It seems sometimes that the commentators can't help saying it.

Loving the cricket though. I watched a few matches then picked my team. Who immediatly lost!!. So being completely fickle I chose another!!!
My two teams are Deccan Chargers and Delhi Daredevils. DC gonna get sacked though if they lose again :hihi:
Might swap em for MI

is it not the mrf or mfr blimp?they are the biggest tyre makers also bats and cricket equip.the matches are great and who would have thought the spin bowlers would have so much success.dont think pieterson was to pleased when kholi ran him out.

Yes you are correct, it is the MLF blimp. I got a bit mixed up with all the sponsers - MLF / DLF /MILF :hihi:

Excellent win for the DD's today. Looked easy at first, then got a bit hairy but was ok in the end. I would have liked to have seen Collingwood having another bat, but it was not to be.

Who's on tommorrow? is it my other team DC

thanks for answering the karbonn kemall thing, its been driving me crazy.
I agree, theres too much product placement like the blimp that gets mentioned almost every over.
They said on the tv the other day that there will be two more teams next year taking part and that they have cost 330 and 300 million to buy the franchise.

Two more teams next year as you say but far more interesting has been the presence of American "observers" at this year's event. The razzmataz, advertising, excitement and packed crowds ought to be right up their alley as t'were.
If cricket does catch on over there will it be a feather in the cap of the IPL or will they have to take the blame? :)

I'm very much looking forward to the first semi final this afternoon. It promises to be a super game and for me I think the Mumbai Indians will take a lot of beating. Maybe if they can get Sachin early and rattle them...who knows? :)

Hi,

IPL is the biggest cricket event in the world the IPL is even bigger then the cricket world cup, this game will sell in millions if they added the IPL teams in it
They need to also add the champions league teams in to this because without the IPL this is like a Fifa game without no Premier league.

IPL is cricket at its best

Thanks,
Jessica
