View Full Version : Anyone get the news for Hull and Lincolnshire?
ecp02aks 23-08-2005, 16:40 I've just moved to Netherthorpe and have noticed that when the local news and weather comes on the television it's for Humberside and Lincolnshire. As I don't really watch the local news it took me a few days to actually realise - I wondered why they were paying so much attention to Hull being ranked the worst place to live in the country and why the weather map never mentioned Sheffield! No offence to these places but I'd much rather know what's happening in South Yorkshire. Does anyone else living in Netherthorpe or elsewhere in Sheffield get this version of the local news? What, if anything, can I do about it?
sirtommo 23-08-2005, 16:47 Same story out at Mosborough but a lot more understandable I suppose... It was one of the main reasons I moved actually...
Couldn't comment on Netherthorpe I'm afraid, but if it's any consolation, the so-called Sheffield version centres very much around Leeds :gag: anyway...
Here in Longley some of us get Calendar South (Emley Moor), while some of us get Calendar East (Belmont) - which is what you seem to be getting.
We got Calendar East and asked the aerial people if they'd realign the aerial for us to receive the other version but were told that we were too low down to get a signal from Emley Moor. Funny thing is that my Father-in-law is even lower down but does get Emley Moor.
Problem solved when we got cable. Now we get them both.
cgksheff 23-08-2005, 17:54 If you tune your TV carefully during the local news time, you can find that you can set up 2 or 3 different BBC frequencies to choose from at your leisure!
No but I'm from that region and it really annoyed me when they split Calendar and Look North into smaller regions. I liked getting news from Humberside and Yorkshire on the same show. Thankfully they are still together on ceefax which I use more than the news bulletins anyway.
We're in Stannington and we get Calendar East, yet about 2 and a bit miles away in Upperthorpe they get Calendar South like we're supposed to.. Seems a bit daft to me.
used to live in Handsworth, and found we had the news for East Yorks, mighty annoyed.
Got cable then everything was back to normal
I really miss Carol Malia on Look North Tyne Tees - wish I had sky :(
We get local news for sheffield, South/West Yorkshire area.
Funny though, dad (who lives near Leeds) thinks Look North has too much of a focus on Sheffield !
We did have a good moan about Christa's hair again last night :hihi:
I think that I get a different local news etc. than all my neighbours, 'cos my aerial points in a totally different direction.
If you've got sky, all the local BBC channels from around the country can be found around the channel 940 mark upwards.

agree with you fully it is stupid
Greybeard 26-08-2005, 22:26 On Freeview we get three different local news channels on ITV and BBC. Being up at 1200 feet helps but why we get East Midlands from Walton when the aerial is pointing at Belmont beats me
