Though not as much as pregnancy. ;) If you're unhappy, go back and see about getting it changed. I tried about 7 pills in all trying to find the right one. Good luck. banesmabes 23-08-2005, 16:48 I don't think this is a type of contraceptive pill - am I right? Just the phrase "I had it fitted last year" leads me to believe it must be a coil or something similar. intooblivion 23-08-2005, 16:49 Is that a coil? You shouldn't put on weight from a coil sugarnspice 23-08-2005, 16:51 Originally posted by banesmabes I don't think this is a type of contraceptive pill - am I right? Had very little sleep! :loopy: * NOTE TO SELF: DO NOT POST WHEN YOU'RE TOO TIRED TO READ. :D Pipine 23-08-2005, 16:54 Is mirena one of the hormone releasing coils? In which case it could make you put on weight in the same way as the pill. I have a coil but its a non hormone releasing one (was sick of artificial hormones messing with my body) and I haven't noticed any weight change at all. nikita 23-08-2005, 16:54 My sister had a mirena fitted a few years ago due to heavy periods from day one it was wonderful she says it is the best thing che ever did according to a nurse she spoke to recently it is the choice of most females in the medical profesion. banesmabes 23-08-2005, 16:59 Here's a useful page on Mirena, how it works and the side effects: http://www.medic8.com/healthguide/articles/mirenaiud.html It does mention weight gain as an 'isolated' side effect. Grissom 23-08-2005, 16:59 Had a quick nose on the Mirena site : www.mirena-us.com and these are the common side effects - cant see anything about weight gain though ! Menstrual changes Lower abdominal pain (cramps) Acne or other skin problems Back pain Breast tenderness Headache Mood changes Nausea Ovarian cysts have been diagnosed in about 12% of Mirena users. In most cases, these cysts disappeared spontaneously during 2 to 3 months' observation. Women who have, or have had, breast cancer should not use hormonal therapy. This bit describes what Minera is : Mirena® (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system) is a unique form of long-acting birth control that virtually eliminates the worry of unplanned pregnancy. Small, T-shaped frame is made of soft, flexible plastic about the size of a quarter Placed in your uterus by your healthcare provider during a routine office visit Continuously releases a very small amount of levonorgestrel (a hormone commonly found in some birth control pills) Prevents pregnancy for up to 5 years or until removed |
