View Full Version : Chinese Herbal remedies - any good?
I've just had a consulation and decided to try chinese remedies for my ever-popping ears/sinuses. I've got accupuncture treatments (seem to work at the time), tablets - who knows, and absolutely horrendous tasting herbal teas!!
Has anyone any experiences? Did it all work for you?? After tasting this tea today, don't think I'll manage the next 7 days!!
My boyfriend had some disgusting herbel tea and horrible gunky cream stuff for his eczma. Smelly and pricey but worked a treat!
pattricia 23-08-2005, 22:58 Try it,suppose to be very good. What can you loose ?
Charlie01 24-08-2005, 12:24 Ive had some herbal tablets from the chinese shop on chapel walk for my nails as they were battered after getting professional falses. and they are fantastic, not seem them this long in about 1.5 years!
overall health of nails better too.
would definately recommend it, but pricey though!
neeeeeeeeeek 24-08-2005, 12:35 Give the herbal stuff a go but have you tried cutting ALL dairy out your diet?? I mean all.. no ice cream, yogurt, cheese, cmilk chocolate, not even milk in tea, NOTHING!! You should try that for 2 weeks first. Also try cutting all wheat out but I would say try that seperatly else you won't know which (if either) has helped. I would not be at all supprised it getting rid of dairy makes a big difference.

Cutting out all dairy sounds interesting neeeeeeeeeek. There has to be a link between milk / cheese I have and this clogged up feeling I have in my head (mucus, blocked nasal passage, ears blocked).
I'm going to cut out all dairy for a week and see what happens ...
neeeeeeeeeek 24-08-2005, 18:17 Give it ago and I wont be supprised if you feel better for it. I mostly drink herbal tea and green tea so its not hard for me and if i have cerial i use rice dream. cant be doing with that soya milk it Orrible! If your someone who eats lots of dairy it can be hard, but give it a try and bet you produce less phlegm etc etc..
Yeah, I've beentold about that, but I eat cheese quite often as I don't eat red meat...?? What would I eat?!!
Well the herbal tea was AWFUL. Could only stomach one cup, literally I was gagging trying to drink my second cup of the day. Spo I've got these tablets I'm sticking with, and these herbal drinks.
neeeeeeeeeek 24-08-2005, 20:01 Humous is great on sandwiches instead of cheese. homous and salad or cucumber or tomato sarnies :) Lots of people don't realise how much dairy stuff they eat but with milk in tea and coffee, breakfast cerials, yougurts, icecream, cheese it adds up. It does seem that lots of people are sensitive to dairy without realising it.
There's stacks to eat: fruit and veg, beans, peas, lentils, brown rice, ryvita
Bread and pasta are also mucous forming
neeeeeeeeeek 27-08-2005, 22:53 come on then, did you cut out dairy?? feel any better???
:)

Not sure I lasted the whole week neeeeeeeeeek, but my nutrition intake is defo improving, eating more healthly (fresh fruits etc) and avoiding KFC.
Have a much improved daily routine too (tai chi / training / reading / quiet time in the morning).
Going to do the week without dairy once again, starting now, specifically looking for a reduction in muucus (sp?) in nasal passages and head.
neeeeeeeeeek 05-09-2005, 21:30 I need to start Tai Chi again, I did it a bit last year but stopped going in the summer as did not like being stuck in a room on sunny evenings. I should start again.

I'd recommend it neeeeeeeeeek, maybe a good idea to find your own time and space to practice. Mornings are ideal, and follow it up with a little meditation / reading etc.
I'm going to shamelessly plug my tai chi chuan class right here. Have started a morning session over at the source ideal for early risers wed 6:45 - 7:45am for a gentle start to the day. For those wishing to concentrate more on forms, partner practice and conditioning there is the tuesday evening class also held at the source 7:15-8:45pm.
For me it helps with hangovers, gets me over colds quicker, keeps me fit, isn't as boring as a gym session and is a practical martial art for those who wish to train it that way.
