Big win that, takes a bit of the pressure off and means Palace have a lot to do now... Reading just gone in front at Leicester too - looks like Plymouth are the ones to be aware of down there rather than Palace.

massive win for the owls, strange though if watford would have won that game and then there games in hand they would be mid-table- this league is crazy.

Just look at Reading - not long back they looked doomed, now they're three points behind the blades with two games in hand, and looking most likely to threaten the top six after 9 wins in 11!

We just about did enough to deserve to win tonight, some poor performances again though from a few players.

I though Purse was superb again and Potter did well apart from giving the stupid free-kick away for their goal.

A big well done to the lads with the learning disabilities for entertaining us with their game at Half Time and to the crowd for giving them such good applause, it was more fun than the game at that point!

Took the words out of my mouth fella, first mention to the disabled lads who played a brilliant game at half time, thats what footballs all about.
Onto the game now, Wednesday for most of that game were clueless.
I even predicted that they would score there free kick to the crowd lol.
Disjointed, lack of ideas, misjudgement need i go on.
Two very very poor sides in all honesty.

It was a shockingly bad game, but three good goals. Both sides were very nervous and lacked quality, with the exception of Cleverley.

I'm not sure that playing 8-0-2 at home is the way forward.:)

Totally agree.

I didn't applaud the team on for the second half - I was too busy applauding the half time players. They all looked like they loved every minute - very enjoyable to watch.

Lacked invention tonight.

Very lucky - should have been a penalty for Watford.

Also very unlucky - how come our free kicks always hit posts etc like Potters did, everyone else's go in!!

Looking at things one way, we've only lost one of our last 6, and gained 9 points in those six games. If we carry on like that we'll end up on 53 points ish.

However, if we keep playing like we did tonight, I can't see us getting another 10 points!!

Sack the players and sack the manager.

Its not good enough, the players do not play with their hearts on their sleeves, most play simply to gain their wages and in my opinion the majority of the players at Sheffield Wednesday have their tails between their legs.

Its not good enough

I loved that lad with Downs Syndrone when he was getting the crowd going, better motivator than some of the players!

I wouldn't argue with that Goalkeeper though, he weren't happy when that goal went in!

His fault to be fair it was a bad kick out lol
I even thought that will haunt the lad for ages.

Decent three points tonight and in a way that's all that matters, but boy do we make it hard for ourselves.

The first half we looked like we couldn't be bothered, no fight except for a couple of players, the main one being Purse.

We looked scared of the ball again and nobody wanted to take a chance.

Luckily we came out with a bit more purpose in the second half and did well to get the goal, what a goal it was too, Nolan finished that run brilliantly.

Then after they scored from an excellent free kick, we looked rubbish again but luckily Varney popped up with a great goal.

We're going to have to play alot better than that though, Watford were awful and at times we made them look like Brazil.

Much of that was due to the fact that Watford set themselves up to frustrate. After we scored, the game opened up. After they scored, they went back into their shell.

We need JJ back to run at sides and create chances, At the moment, we are far too one paced and easy to shut out of games.

Yeah we don't make it easy for ourselves, we had chances to get balls into the box and we turn back and play it behind us.

Like you say, we miss JJ when he's not playing.

Like i said months ago JJ is a massive outlet for us.
He might not be successful at taking a player on all the time but he makes up for it in work rate attacking wise and being basically unpredictable.
I thought Soares looked tidy at times again tonight, too good a footballer for a winger in my eyes.
Tudgay again was flicking himself on, Clarke actually made a difference when he came on as he did most of the dirty work what Tudders does too much of.

When JJ comes back, i'd love to see Soares play in the middle instead of Potter.

Very boring first half - nothing to say on that one!

we came out for the second with a completetly different attitude and were on top (should have been more than one up) until their goal (for some reason, every1 round me knew it was gunna go in, and what a goal it was) it died a little bit after that and the ref did his best to make himself the star of the show with some awful decisions - so many of them "is he backing in or is the other guy pushing him in the back" decisions (the ones where the ref whistles and no-one has no idea who he's giving the free kick to until he points!)

nolan played well again (lovely goal)
soares drifted in and out as usual
potter for me didnt do much but when we were really pressing (45min-70) he was spraying it around nicely)
oconner looked up for it got stuck in
leon clarke is useless
varney looked dangerous on the left wing
was nice to see tudgay running at defenders a bit tonight, not seen that in a while
jeffers looked good even though he was brought on late

deserved victory

come on wednesday!!!!!!!!!!!

commentator was saying the first half the midfields were very narrow with no width, which is what we dont have when jj isnt in the team, did varney play the whole game on the wing?

started with miller out wide who isnt a wide man, when he went off, clarke went upfront and varney went out wide

varney was excellent in the second half constantly running at their full back with success

he sounded dangerous and had a few chances, it helps that he has a good burst of pace to run at the defenders along with a decent shot to boot. i must admit when we re-signed varney on loan i wasnt too happy mainly because he hadnt really done anything before, but i hold my hands up hes probably been the man that has kept us out of the relegation zone. hopefully tudgay can find a bit of form these last few games then. i think irvine might go in for varney at the end, if derby dont realise what a good player he is.

tudgay plays facing the goal tonight - recently its been all back to goal stuff

jeffers held it up and got the ball into the wide men (mainly varney) for the 7/8 mins he was on

Confidence is a biggie at this time of the season, Watford will be really down after that result. Let's hope Palace continue to faulter also

3 points on Sat and we're so close!
