Just been to a pet shop and asked for rat food,i saw this one that had sunflower seeds and all nice looking things the shop keeper said what is it for i told him,for my rats he said DONT buy rats that it could kill them is it true.....?
i really cant see it.:help: a rat eats anything i no my 2 little fattys do....

Ermmmm i didnt think so...i'll look we gave our rat some sunflower seeds as we grew them he tried one but didnt like them but it didnt kill him...

sunflower seeds wont KILL a rat, too many seeds and nuts arent good for rats and can make them itchy and give them skin disorders. but no i dont see howthey would kill a rat

I wouldn't buy food with them actually in, but a couple of sunflower seeds every now and then won't hurt them at all, and certainly won't kill them...but only as a rare treat.

No they are fine to eat sunflower seeds but they are fattening. Our gerbils have them but are not given too many for this reason.

yeah i used to feed them to the boys in their food for the first 4 months when they were growing and now give them occasionally as a treat like the others have said fine in moderation. ps my boys eat anything too lol

Don't think I've fed them the rat - a bit too small and she's a little nippy - we use larger treats LOL

However, Felix the hamster loves them :D

It's complete rubbish - another reason to not believe anything a pet shop tells you! As others have said - moderation is good. :D

ive been out today and got them both a chewy bar with sunflower seeds in them and thay LOVE them thay also love bread very strange my 2 ratties:-)

Unfortunately not - you don't actually need to know a thing about pets to work in a pet shop. Hence I'm very against them selling animals as people just like yourself are told stuff that is not only rubbish but in some instances damaging to the pet concerned.

When we go shopping I will sometimes get the girls a loaf of bread, I just stick it in and they will happily hollow it out and make a nice bread cave from it. :hihi:
