Last night I watched a bit of a program about a young lad who hade some kind of disease that was making his bones grow all wonky, the lad was brilliant, a real fighter, so I thought I'd carryon watching it, but then they spoilt the program by interviewing his mum and asking questions that made her cry, which they filmed, I had to change channels.
I hate to see people crying on TV in "real life" documentaries, I can see it's a sad situation and everyone is upset, there is no need to actually make someone cry to prove the point.
Rant over.
So, I didn't see the end, did anyone else watch it ? Did they operate on the lad to straighten his legs out ?

I started to watch it too, but found it so depressing that I had to switch off. I'm wondering too how the lad got on. Proteus is obviously a terrible condition. I wish him all the best.
I hate this too - it's as though we won't believe they are suffering until we see the tears. I'm surprised people allow the documentary makers to show the material to be honest. It was like on the news the other week when some Iraqi kids were killed and then they showed one of the mothers throwing herself on the floor weeping - it was going too far, and intrusive I thought.

I taped the prog and will probably watch it tonight. Will let you know what happens/if they operate when I've watched it.
As for people crying, they won't stop that practice - tv prods etc obviously feel it adds to the 'tugging at the heart strings' element. Just like comedy shows have 'canned laughter' - which I dislike intensely, especially when there's nothing to laugh at (see 'My Family' for instance)!!

I cannot cope with crying - on telly or in real life because I just start crying too. :(

I severely disliked Craig's constant crying on BB this year, not because it was somehow making me feel emotional but because I would love to give him a good slap and say grow up.
Bit off of the subject there but I also dislike it when they ask people questions that would obviously drive them to tears and carry on anyway when they do start rather than saying lets take a break and carry on later with better questions. I'm not that emotionally affected by TV so it isn't really enough to make me change the channel.
I ONLY saw the last 10 minutes!!! He did get his legs stapled but it was too early to know if it would help or not. There was a problem cos some of the staples came out again. But he seemed upbeat. What a good sense of humour.
