View Full Version : Good garage to get my car fixed
SarahTodd 23-08-2005, 11:36 Does anyone know of a good garage where I can get my car fixed, that generally arent too expensive. Also, do all garages ask you to pay straight away or are there any where they bill you for what they did. I need my car fixed, but cant afford it just yet as I am in between jobs etc so it would be useful to get a bill a few weeks down the line.
Help please!!!
absynthfairy 23-08-2005, 16:05 Don't know about billing but me and my friend have been to her garage today and they were lovely! I'll certainly be taking my car there in future - they fixed her car not long back but she is still having problems and they are doing their utmost to get her sorted at very short notice and without charging her any more money. I was impressed by the sincerity.
Southey Green Garage - i think it's on southey green road.
dirtybobby 23-08-2005, 16:18 you don't say whereabouts you live, but it's worth going out of your way for LC Motors (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?postid=465030#post465030).. they are S5 area, and really are the friendliest and most genuine garage owners i've ever met..
A WHILE AGO I TOOK MY CAR TO ONE IN ALBERT ROAD, HEELEY BOTTOM (OFF CHESTERFIELD RD), THEY DID A GREAT JOB. CONTACT IS STEVE. NAME OF GARAGE ESCAPES ME IM AFRAID BUT ITS NEXT TO SCAFFOLDING YARD - U CANT MISS IT

i think the OP wants her car serviced, not her garage :hihi:
What sort of car is it? :) :)
go and see liam at LC motors i have recommended loads of people to liam and no one has had a problem he charges a reasonable amount does an excellent job but does not do credit although he does take credit and debit cards.
LC Motors are at the bottom of grange lane ecclesfield
bigtom1981 24-08-2005, 16:54 go and see my mate martin at mp motors, hes at the back of morrisons at ecclesfield top bloke great job every time and cheap aswell
paulingram 24-08-2005, 21:04 Myself and some of my workmates always use Loxley Motors just up from Malin Bridge
Steadfast on Rutland Road are good too :)
spartacus 24-08-2005, 21:28 High Greave Motors on Grange Lane just off Woolley Wood Road.
Never seen so many 'Good garages'
Hope they're not mates /workers/ relatives advertising.
A good place is Steve Smiths in the city centre. Nothing hi tech, just a lone mechanic.
But he looks after folks and does a good job.
SarahTodd 26-08-2005, 07:04 Thanks guys, all very useful replies. Its a ford fiesta, nothing special just keeps me going where I need to go really. I will check out the ones near to me, I am in crookes.

well, both me and pj66 (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?postid=562357#post562357) have recommended LC Motors (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?postid=465030#post465030), so they score one higher than everyone else ;)
i went to them after following advice in the thread linked above, and i will continue to use them for all my automotive needs (even though they are about 7 miles from my house)..
UnkleBob 26-08-2005, 19:59 There's a bloke called Harry Lamb, he used to work on Staniforth road from his back yard, and i'm told he was the cheapest and best for "bread and butter" servicing, ie; brakes, mot work, oil changes etc, I'm also told he's now in the Darnall area but i'll try and get a number off a fellow forumer.
carpetviper 26-08-2005, 21:36 mp at the back of morrisons is an ace garage
DanSumption 07-09-2005, 12:44 Anyone had experience of garages around Walkley/Crookes? I know there are a few - one on Howard Hill, one at the top of Industry Street, one on Toyne Street, one on Mulehouse Road, probably others - anyone have good or bad experiences with any of these?
jdgraham83 07-09-2005, 14:24 Dont go to the one off crookes road opposite choices whatever you do, not sure what its called but its blue. My sister left her car there in the morning and when she got it that afternoon had a big dirty scratch down thye door. Because theyd parked it on the road they said they wernt responsible, which were looking into at the moment. I think this is terrible customer service, surely if you leave the car with them its there legal responsibility:rant:
bigredbox 07-09-2005, 14:33 Amberley, opp attercliffe nick, flash him a nice smile and I think you find him very cheap.
Us lasses got to play it a little to get what we want...lol:hihi:
Any one have recomendations for garages walkley/ crookes our car has a leaking gearbox. any garage apart from andrew flowers.. dont want to risk any dirty great scratches...
goldenfleece 11-10-2005, 10:22 I've used the same garage for 12 years, DJ ALLEN MOTOR REPAIRS at Crosspool, next to the Car Sales place on Selbourne Road. Superb mechanic, never had a problem in 12 years and have taken all my cars there. No messing, no head scratching or usual mechanic 'lets try it on and see how much money I can get away with' crap, just a fantastic service and 100% reliable.
I must say we found an excellent garage.. mototr mates on the penistone road industrial estate.. they were fab picked up the car repaired it returned it to my home three hours later. And they were very resonably priced.... we will stick to them in future and the guy was so friendly and honest.. for me it could have been the slackbakkeringpiece that had gone, but I had a little note explaining the problem and they knew what the problem was i was trying to explain.
McCague Motor Services on Broad Lane 272 0269 - chap called Malcolm. Very reasonable and excellent job.

jonouk2008 15-02-2009, 16:05 any body know nick at high greave motors
Can totally recommend AM Autos, Balaclava Road off Infirmary Road = near Pagetts. Went to them after bad experience with Carnalls. Have been with them for 21 years - ask for Bill or John. Have never been ripped off - went to them when I was a poor, single parent student and never got charged full price for job as they knew my cicumstances. Now see them once a year for MOT but will not see them for 3 years now as have just got brand new Audi which won't need MOT yet.
Can't recommend highly enough.
GrannyGranny 16-02-2009, 09:50 Look like the OP won't have a problem finding a garage but he did mention not being able to afford to pay for it until later which I doubt any garage will be prepared to do.
Is the problem something you could have a look at yourself?
There are loads of car related sites which may be able to help.
Have you got a Haynes manual?
Hulkster 21-03-2009, 12:22 Hi,
I am looking for a good garage in the Handsworth area for my Mk 4 Golf GTi.
I have been to A57 before and not rated their service and they seemed to be very overpriced.
My car is over heating and I work in sheffield so took it to One Stop Motors, they have had it 08:30 - 12:30 and don't know where the problem is. I personally think it's the water pump (a common fault on Golf's) but they did not even check it. They spent the time messing with the fan switch and aparently the thrmo but cannot count or discount either!
Any help appreciated. New to the forum but seems excellent for sheffield advice.
system-tek 23-05-2009, 00:28 High Greave Motors on Grange lane, cannot recommend them enough, i have used them for years with all my cars, both paul and nick know there stuff and they dont charge high labour rates either.
I have sent loads of customers there way from friends and family and everybody has always said how good and cheap they are.
Top Lads.

Think you mean Steve Plain - he is good but only deals with Peugeots. I can recommend Ian Kelly - Halifax Road, he will collect your car from home or work, do job and bring it back, top guy, tel: 0114 285 2480 or 0797 626 5034
