Having just been away to the coast again, we sat looking at the lighthouse and asked if they had them working in the war?

My partner did not have an answer. We pondered over the factor that they would be useful to both sides if working and that it would be dangerous to both sides if not.

Any help on this one??

Thanks Fuzzy

not sure on this but as there were black outs enforced id assume they were shut down, also i would think they would have been strategic targets for the germans

I know for sure that the Isle of Wight lighthouses were actually switched off.
I have asked Trinity House about the rest and will share any answer, if it comes.

There is a lighthouse site here that says a number of trhe lighthouses were demolished during the war to prevent their use as navigational aids :(

an amazing amount of lighthouse info on this site - never knew there were so many around, and in such a variety of shapes and sizes
