I need information about the fires which raged along the Derbyshire moors near Dore in the early 1960's please. Any details will help, especially:

date of the fire(s)
how far did they extend?
duration
how extintguished (brooms? spades? helicopters?)
experiences of volunteers and sightseers attending
how many people were helping to put out the fires
what is the vegetation on the moors - is it purely heather?
the effect on sheffield - smoke? red glow in sky?

And anything else!

Thanks

You could see the flames from the Arbourthorne estate in Sheffield. It also uncovered an aeroplane wreck that was once a Bristol Beaufighter
