View Full Version : My car radio nicked last night.
mrplodge 22-08-2005, 20:20 Just had my car radio nicked. Although this is not particularly good they smashed the window to get it and that ****** me off more. I forgot or rather was too lazy to detach the radio. I knew I had left it but went to bed. I know a lot of people put detached radio in glove box but unsure if they would have still had a go. My advice always remove all valuables no matter how inconvenient.
susa41981 22-08-2005, 20:57 Sorry to hear that Mr Plodge. Whether the front had been in the glove box, there's always that chance that some idiot's going to have a go anyway. Sorry again mate
LordChaverly 22-08-2005, 21:03 I've had mine done twice (first time they smashed the passenger window and last time the driver window). I've had an alarm fitted since and always remove the radio.
mine's been done twice, once at work, once at home. Hole punched in the door, i'm guessing by the same person as i'd left a letter in the car first time round and i reckon they just gave it time and went to my home address for the second break in.
police hint....
take all valuables out, open you glove box to prove that you haven't put your faschia in there.
Touch wood i've been ok since.
You didnt have any wheel trims nicked as well did you?

what area do you live in, we had people trying to break in cars too, one of the neighbours called the police at about 1.30am, they arrived at 2.30am, a bit late. It was in Woodseats.
Silly question... why would someone want a car radio, don't all cars now a days come with one, who could they sell it to , and what would THEY do with it ?

I think they look for radio/CD systems these days - older cars in the UK generally won't have a CD player as standard.
We had ours done on bonfire night last year....smashed the window and took the CD player.
The police said that time of year is when all crime peaks...dark nights, loud bangs aren't investigated as you just think it is fireworks or kids fooling around and the rush is on for the dishonest Christmas income/gifts etc
Many of these people sell on ebay etc
Be extra vigilant guys, especially now the nights are drawing in!
Sorry to hear about it though MrPlodge!

absynthfairy 23-08-2005, 17:11 I had a shocker of a car robbery at christmas - slightly my fault though.. drove back to sheffield from birmingham with all my xmas prezzies in car - couldn't get my new microwave off the back seat and boyf was working in london - next morning, first day of new term - back window smashed and my car EMPTIED.
I lost:
Microwave, MP3 CD stereo, laptop, 4 wineglasses, new set of pots and pans, girls aloud album, tea towel, cake slice and other little presents.
What hurt most was they stole a picture I had painted for my boyf that would have been of no use or value to anyone... except us.
Drove to school, burst into tears in the middle of staff briefing and promptly got sent home to sort everything out.
Police promised me 5 times they were coming to take a statement and never turned up once. Obviously I accept a certain amount of responsibility but even so...
Just makes you feel sick to the stomach - i really sympathise Mr Plodge

littleboo 24-08-2005, 07:14 we had our car broken into the other week, at 2pm it was raining really heavy so there was no one about, they smashed the window on the off chance that the stereo front might be in the car. didnt take anything else just complete stereo.
I just makes such a mess, glass everywhere, luckily my brother works for a windscreen co so he came and fixed it for us.
it happened last year too, we had one of the portable mp3 disc man players and it came with a stand for the dashboard. The stupid so and so's broke the window thinking the stand was the player.
we now have a new MP3 player for car but have taken measures to stop thiefs. My husband got an cassette car stereo and took the front off, it now fits on the front of the stereo, we also leave a couple of old cassettes on display too.
they can't sell cassette car radios as there is no demand for them, and they don't break your window on the off chance.
We had the radio stolen - then got a lovely replacement with detachable front. Never kept it in the car, and had it broken into a couple of times since. They even took the back window out once - that wasn't so bad as it could just be put back in, thanks to a lovely neighbour who found it before the kids went to school and let us know.
