Are you sure you're not getting confused with GPRS, a completely unrelated technology that the 6600 supports?
GPS = Global Positioning System
GPRS = General Packet Radio Service
GPRS basically amounts to low speed (but faster than WAP) internet access on mobile devices.
It is unfortunate that GPS and GPRS sound so similar in acronym form, and it is more of a shame that the mobile phone shops pander to it. Well, either that or they don't listen. Too often you hear:
Customer: "I want a phone that can do GPS"
Shop-bloke: "Certainly. Any of the current mid-range phones supportit"
Customer: "Oh great " (to self/partner/etc "it cheaper than Macro")

You can do it.
You need a Bluetooth GPS unit and compatible software.
(Bluetooth is the wireless technology that sends signals from the GPS Unit to the 6600)
Software has to be suitable for the 6600 and the GPS Unit has to be suitable for the software.

That looks pretty cool. It'd be interesting to see how reliable it is with the bluetooth link.
