View Full Version : Freeview box and signal
Hi
Got a freeview box and set it up fine.
now everytime i switch it back on i have to redo the installation althoug it ahd been saved before.
what could be the problem??
Anyone...
B
Knackered box?
Which box is it?
Do you unplug it from the wall\switch it off at the wall everytime you finish using it?
Does it complete the setup procedure correctly?
why do u need to turn it off ?
I think most of them (mine does anyway) have a similar arrangement to PC motherboards, with a "hearing aid" battery to save the settings & gubbins.
If yours does, it may be a duff battery or the circuit that keeps it charged. Either way if you've owned it less than 28 days take it back for a replacement...
thanks ,
i will take it back!

RazorSHarp 22-08-2005, 12:44 get sky in, it's free to install and the basic pack is less than £20 a month, failing that get Telewest but get ready for the hell that is their customer services and billing departments !!!!!!!

I think most of them have an EEPROM for settings & gubbins.

I think you'll find RazorSHarp that Telewest's customer service is high in the charts of being the best around. I work for them and when I phone other companies I am apalled at what they are like.
different question but how do you get a better signal if a booster dont work? i can get 1 to 4 on normal but not on freeview and cant get e4, when i texted my post code it said it would be ok, so i bought a box, got it home and its poo, tried to ring the help number several times and its no longer in use?
and ideas?
The postcode checker is useless, don't bother with that.
Chances are your aerials knackered or the wiring in your home is poor\faulty. Could be something as simple as a loose connection somewhere.

When i worked for them back in 2001 we had queing times of just under one hour for 3 months!.
I remember coming in one Saturday morning and looked at the info boards, said to my mate how come there is only a 3 minute queue,he said the clook only goes to 59 minutes then starts again so infact it was 1 hour and 3 mins!
It was a good place to work for once they got the staffing sorted out.
Anyone seen the new channel on 37 Quiz call looks crap!
Roll on More 4 and ITV4
spartacus 23-08-2005, 22:03 Telewest has the worst customer service of any company I've ever dealt with: conflicting, usually false, information from advisors regarding the same issue; short-tempers; sarcasm; failure to carry out simple instructions; missed appointments; etc. And when you try to cancel your account they keep you talking for ages trying to weedle you into stopping with them.
It's a shame, really. The products are good and the costs on a par with BT. It's the customer services that let them down.
Avoid.

I wonder if M & M will be replaced by ITV 4, or whether M & M will continue...
jshackleton 24-08-2005, 07:01 I bought a freeview box in July and Installed it ....at first I could get ITV, Five and and half of the Freeview channels but not e4 which I bought it for. I couldn't get BBC1, 2 or 3 etc through it. I reinstalled it this time I got BBC 1, 2 and 3 and E4 etc but some of the channels I had had before were missing (including cbeebies.. my little one would never forgive me).....wierd. After 6? instalations I finally got all the channels I wanted.
Switched the freeview box on this morning and suddenly my box said it needed channels instaling. Panic! Don't know what happened in the night? Would all the channels be there..... Phew it looks ok..... all channels are back....... that is just my experience:o

I worked in the complaint's dept for over 3 years and I can honestly say that it was without doubt the most poorly run place I have ever worked. if everyone in those buildings were as interested in their jobs as they were about bitching about each other and having affairs with each other (including the managers) then the place might not be in the current state its in.
Good luck to susa41981, you'll need it!
Ours comes and goes in S7... Don't know if it's the box or the area.
Probably a combination of both. Some boxes are pretty good at pulling in weakish signals and some just don't see them at all. This may or may not be helped by a marginal aerial or a dodgy connection or bad wiring.
My mate has freeview and channels work fine most of the time but won't download some new ones or do software updates. That particular one just wants a smal tweaking of the aerial.
