I've never known something so cute cause so much worry!
Bubble is 6 months now (as of yesterday) and goes in for her spay on Monday. I've got all the usual pre-op nerves. Knowing that it's a routine op and that she'll be fine but at the same time worrying myself silly that she's still such a baby and too young to be going through it etc. etc. Of course, she's deaf so definitely won't be any pups from her but obviously there are other health benefits to neutering and the hope that if she doesn't reach sexual maturity and have a season she won't go through all the trouble T has - and the two girls won't fall out over it!
But she's also worrying me because there's so much wrong with her! 6 of Bubble's littermates died when they were born, and I will be making sure she has all the pre-op blood tests to ensure she's safe to go under GA.
I haven't posted this yet but B also has Urate Crystals :( This is something that can affect dals due to the way they metabolise their food and a strict diet is all that is required (hopefully!) to keep her from forming bladder stones and ending up needing surgery.
Now, after ear infections and mouth swellings we have yet another issue :( Bubble's leg is giving her gip. She'll hopefully be having x rays on Monday whilst she's under for her spay but I doubt they're going to show anything as I really don't think it's skeletal. It seems more of a nerve/ligament type issue.
She's started limping a little but you don't notice it because of her puppy gait but then she'll do something, she'll be running around or she'll jump onto something etc. and all of a sudden she's screaming, now obviously she is likely to make more noise than a hearing dog anyway because she can't hear herself to regulate it but she's also biting anything that's near her, cushions, Takara, me...
It's awful when it happens :( She went running into the lounge the other day and suddenly started screaming and screaming, both the dogs ran in and I followed, she was lashing out and I was concerned she'd bite them so I got hold of her and cuddled her to try and calm her down, she tried to bite me but just continued to scream for about 5 minutes until she finally calmed down and her little heart was going 10 to the dozen... she did the same thing a day later and actually cried for so long that she exhausted herself and practically cried herself to sleep in my arms.
I've now got her on restricted exercise, short lead walks only and supervised play in the garden/house. I'm amazed to be honest that she's not completely up the walls - Takara would've been at this age! She has hurt it since, but not as badly now that she's on restricted exercise so I'm hoping that if the x rays can rule out any joint/skeletal damage then we can look at the possibility of a sprain or a trapped nerve/torn tendon etc.
So yes... I am now grey under the red hair dye!!
