occasionally.
if i read a bad film review in th Mail, i always watch the film as i find their opinions are upper class twaddle usually.it's almost a negative positive review.

Rarely.

When I wrote my first book I got one iffy review and half a dozen good ones.

When I spoke to my publisher he asked me if the bad review had correctly spelt my name and the name of the book, and that the ISBN was correct.

I said Yes, and he said don't worry. Most readers, in his experience, paid little attention to reviews.

I'd stuck with that ever since.

As Mel Brookes said, after the birth of art came the afterbirth - the critic. :)

My concern is that reviews - particularly of films - aren't critical enough.

There is some real rubbish at the cinema at the minute and they all get outstanding reviews, usually by some C-list celebrity like Paul Ross, who has no credentials whatsoever other than trading on his brother's name.

i do read the reviews to get any idea of a plot/theme but i like to make up my own mind about these things. i believe what my friends and family tell me more - word of mouth is the most powerful thing.

I read reviews, but always prefer to make my own judgement. I write reviews myself for my site, and the staff magazine at work, but I always point out to people that it is just one opinion. We are all different, and just because I say something sucks ass big time (like Devils Rejects) it doesn't mean you will.

Depends on the reviewer, if it's a review of a game like Halo or Halo 2 on Xbox for example, you know it'll be way way over-rated because of the hype.
