What restrictions exist on where you can camp in the peaks? A few years ago me and some mates went and camped somewhere around padley gorge, but i'm pretty sure we weren't supposed to camp there.

I'm looking for somewhere to go and camp for a night next weekend (as long as the weather is good!). I dont really fancy any 'proper' campsites as i guess they'll be busy and have screaming kids and stuff. We just want to go and have a bbq and camp for a night and relax in the 'great outdoors'.

Does anybody have any ideas where we could go that we be quite secluded and peaceful but also where we wont get shouted at for camping?

Legally speaking, you should have the express permission of the landowner and without it the landowner has the right to move you on.
In practical terms, you have to be seen and reached in order to be 'moved on' and the remoteness of the site, your behaviour and the way you treat the site will have an effect on whether this occurs.
Parts of the Peak District expressly forbid "Wild Camping" under their Access Agreements and Rangers will patrol to enforce this especially in periods of high fire-risk.

If you do choose to "wild camp" please respect the site, do no damage and leave nothing but your memories.:)

Do you know what parts of the peaks do forbid Wild camping"?

Wouldn't dream of damaging the site! We're very well behaved :)

Oh yeah, and does anyone know if you can camp around padley gorge, because where we camped last time was a great spot.

Cheers,

Whatever you do don't drive there in your 4x4 :)
