How often do people test the fire alarms in your office / building? Ours (at work) are tested every Monday which seems a bit ridicules to me.

Is there anyone on the know who can tell us if you are supposed to test fire alarms every week?

We have all become so used to it now when the alarm goes off we just think it’s a test!

Anyone else have this problem?

Yes. Government Guidelines (http://www.archive.official-documents.co.uk/document/fire/part3g.htm#a) state that Electrical fire detection and fire warning systems should be tested weekly for function and to check whether they can be heard throughout the area covered. Make sure they can be seen or heard, particularly by disabled people, and that voice alarms can be understood.

I think that Health & Safety Regulations require these guidelines to be followed.

Once a week and they should try to do it at the same time each week so people are aware when the tests are and put up notices around the building stating what time and how long it will last to try to avoid confusion if a real alarm goes.

Dull eh? But highly sensible. :)
