View Full Version : The Best Pet You Ever Had?

Ive had lots of pets, mostly cats and rats but the best pet I ever had was Pepe, a Collie Alsation cross that was found in the tongue gutter, in a bag, with a few dead pups by my dad on the day I was born.

Pepe was the only survivor and my dad buried the dead pups in the garden and looked after him.

I was spewed from my mummys rops that same day and for the next 17 years we were inseperable- he was a brilliant and very faithful dog and everyone said he looked the image of Petra, the Blue peter dog. He was the best pet I ever had and the only one who broke my sweet little heart on the day he died. Mainly because for the last year of his life I had no time for him, I was busy with my first job and too occupied with going out to get drunk.

I remember him now, looking soulfully at me as I left the house yet again- until then he went practically everywhere with me, never leaving my side all the way through my childhood.

Even today over 30 years later I feel hellishly guilty about that last year.

So, thats it from me... What about you? What was your most memorable pet?

What an amazing story! It's very moving :( (maybe with the exception of the spewing from the rops part lol)

I've just watched the film 'Hachiko: A Dog's Story' and was blubbing about that already and now I feel like blubbing again!

I've not had many pets, but my most memorable simply because it was all very odd was this little blue budgie. One day we came downstairs in the morning to find this poor bird in the fireplace! She had fallen all the way down the chinmey, and it was a big old victorian three story place so you can imagine how long a fall she had! We couldn't find her owner so we kept her. She once laid an egg! :)

Apart from that we had the family cat, we got her when I was three and she was three too. She was finally PTS 17 years later. Very sad times :(

Mine has got to be our old dog, Luby, she was the best dog ever, so loving and friendly, ive got 4 cats now, had 1 a few years ago but he went missing, i was devastated at not knowing where he got too or what happened to him, but Luby was the best, although i love all my cats dearly, especially Angel 2 :)

Uh oh whats up with the new pup?

My dad had four cats and i can only remember them vaguely but there was Captain kirk, mcoy, spoc and i cant for the life of me remember the other ones name...as you can gather he was a star trek fan, i just remember lots of photographs of me in the garden the cats were huge!!! My dad said they never ever hurt me and the one time that one of the cats accidently scratched me it hid away for ages - dead said it looked like it felt right guilty and it never ever scratched again. i dont know what happened to them, i know Captain Kirk got frisky and went and mated with a femaled cat cause we ended up taking the female cat in and her bundle of kittens.

Tor was a beautiful baby boy, i am so glad hes still in the family just wish i could have got him back. He was as soft as a brush, he knew when to be calm when the kids were around he wouldnt jump up unless he was told too, he would go to the park and circle us making sure the kids didnt run too far, like he was herding but he'd never nip at us. He was a bit of trouble on the lead and he had a scary bark (although the postman learnt to bring treats and Tor begrudgingly let him past) He would curl up in his doggy crate when it was bed time or when we were going out and he would come and curl with us but he'd never go on the furniture unless we called him up and even then he was reluctant.
I miss that pooch so much but hes got 5 kids pampering over him and a huge garden to run around in - couldnt take him back now knowing that the kids are so attached to him.

Mine would be my rottie I got from fescue! He was so soft and loving and protected my baby like his life depended on it! His kidneys began to fail and couldn't walk, he was in alot of pain but the night before the vet put him to sleep he still let my little boy sit on his back and have a ride. Such a special doggie and I miss him to this day. xxx

This is a very similar story to my favourite dog who was one in a million. His name was Paddy and he followed me home when I was about twelve. I begged and pleaded my parents to keep him and after posters and calls to the dog warden to check he didn't have a home and a few more days pleading Paddy (as we named him due to the sore paws he had indicating he'd obviously walked a long way) stole the hearts of my parents too and stayed.
Paddy was my best mate, he followed me loyally for about 12 years. He would come to parties with me and was so synonymous with me that we once got a song written about us.

He was the softest, gentlest, loveliest, most loyal dog ever and I too feel guilty that I went to Morocco for a month just before he died two years ago. Fortunately he hung on and we had a great couple of weeks together while he was pretty ill until his back legs gave out and one sunny day, the vet came and put him to sleep in his favourite sunny spot in the garden.
He was also the only one who was with my mum when she passed away and I'm really glad she had him to keep her company.
This thread is making me all emotional!
