It's funny that, why would people leave one of the most sucessful forums in the UK to go to a rival one, with a different mod team? There's already at least one break away "sheffield forum" with loads of swearing on. Why start yet another?

One mod. on sy forum, same person as the owner and the same person who keeps sending me daft pm's under many different users names, asking me why I'm not at SY forum - he's very desperate, isn't he?!:rolleyes:

He is lifting threads from here, reproducing them word for word and claiming to be the author now that is sad,

I've just been having a look around it and I am absolutely gobsmacked at how desperate it all looks on that other place.

Hi all,

There are actually several IP addresses involved - some of them are shared by other users so it's difficult to nail them.

Just to fill people in, we've been nailing these posts for several days now and occasionally a few get through and hang around on the board for a while.

All I can say is keep reporting them, and we'll keep whacking them. We also may have a few technical tricks up our sleeve that will help us stay on top of this tomfoolery.

It's been highly entertaining for those members of SF who've been spammed by PM about this new Forum, and it's been IMMENSE fun for the Mods who've been removing spam postings about it (i.e. multiple copies from multiple IDs) from SF for the last few days.

I personally have no issue with other Forums - however, policy of SF is that we don't allow people to spam the Forum just to advertise them. To clarify things, the real issues that as a Mod. team we've had with the South Yorkshire Forum people are :

Use of multiple IDs on SF.
Spamming SF threads.
Spamming users of SF by PMs.

My main issue with these guys is that they're breaking the T & Cs of SF. Simple as that.

Use it as the equivalent of taking any arguments outside, (not that I've got any gripes with anyone...). It's not like there's anyone there to upset.
Any threads that are getting a bit tricky could be re-directed to this other site to carry on a fight unmoderated, but we could still watch and interject occasionally.

I posted under the ID of Bernard. Signed up when he first started spamming another forum where I admin, used the different ID and straight away he made me a mod (oh goody).

Today I decided that enough was enough after spotting all the posts from here that he has done a copy and paste on so I linked them back to here.

These have now been removed and my account has been banned.

And he goes on stating that you have freedom of speach at his forums.....

I read this thread last night and it had me laughing out loud!

Just to say that I never quite found the 'other place' (despite searching for it (SY ?), but it doesn't matter, because it has amused me greatly. Someone with a grudge? (but no sense??)

Well there is still another SF rival that was started up a while ago by people who thought that it was a restriction of their civil liberties not to be able to eff and jeff online.

That one seems to have crashed and burned quite quickly too.

SF isn't perfect - it never could be. I do think that it offers enough variety for lots of people to keep interesting and vibrant. Wait until we get the next lot of first years into the university in September :D

At the end of the day, it's you lot that make it. :thumbsup:

SF Admin haven't closed any forum. You PM'd me a while ago with a link to another forum. I've visited several other forums in fact, but none has the appeal of SF. If this other forum was existing on someone lifting posts from SF, and then engaging in a one-person conversation, it seems to me that it wasn't attracting the necessary interest to sustain it. SF Admin can hardly be blamed for that.

We couldn't give a stuff about other Forums being there - but we will NOT put up with their owners breaking the rules on SF, spamming our members through PM and e-mail and lifting our content. Simple as that.

I'm assuming you're kidding about us having other Forums closed down. We just focus on making SF the best we can, not interfering with other people's activities.

Revealing the content of other peoples PM's without permission is a great way to get banned.

Witch hunt / bullying? It just looks like people expressing opinions on a forum spammer to me.

You need to remember that the amount of spam created by this person took many hours to clear up and caused a needless moderating headaches for a while.

Finally it seems that the individual has got the hint and realised that his spam and his new member accounts were lasting only a matter of minutes.

No Jon, you have no rights, just the facility to use the Forum in line with the rules and with respect to other people, including those who run this place on behalf of everyone else. People don't get banned for expressing opinions, they get banned for things like being stupid or deliberately winding people up or posting overt racisim or threats of violence. You know, that kind of thing.

Well I hope that she does, we enjoy having her around. It was me that gave the ban, and it was really just for cooling off. She hadn't done anything major, but a thread was just getting far too heated and needing too much moderating.

I won't say anything else - there's nothing to say. :thumbsup:

Roy joined the Rovvrem Forum folks - it's NOT Crannies rotherham forum. Cranny is just trying anything to have his own forum but going anout it the wrong way. Alienating & spamming is not the way forward. :D

I actually think this is very sad and am surprised the Do-Gooders haven't risen to the defence of the One Man Forum. It's clear to me that this person is extremely lonely and in definate need of help.

If this forum is as politically correct as it comes across, it would surely have some compassion for someone so sad. Or are we talking double standards here?

i was thinking that as well i bet if it was a kosovan refugee wanting to meet freinds and someone said somthing the race watchers would be onto them like a shot

Seriously. It is easy to like the lad (?) at first & maybe feel a little compassion because he does come over somewhat soft.

But when, time after time after time he's been asked by EVERY mod on EVERY forum that he's spamming - to cease.
Even, in some cases given his own thread, STILL insists on putting links in every 'area' anyway.

It becomes very irksome indeed.

THEN to persistantly pm other users who have had a look and made their own decision NOT to sign up to his forum.

Did Cranworth send you loads of links that turned out to be links to advertisements? He sent me quite a few. I think he's being paid millions by the advertising companies he's supporting and is sat in a house made out of gold bricks, platinum and diamonds laughing at us all! Hi all,

Hope no-one minds too much but I'm going to lock this one now and let it quietly float away....

It's been, as they say, emotional.

In the meantime the Moderating team will return to Moderating SF, cranworth or whoever can get back to running HIS forum (and hopefully stays off of spamming us) and people wanting to use both or neither Forums can get on with it without fear or favour. :)
