Internetowl 21-08-2005, 19:32 its deader than a dead thing...and thats dead
... and at least 4 of the members are the same person - ie the founder, who now has around 15 banned membernames on SF
Mind you, it's not quite as bad as his transport forum that he keeps spamming us about. at least 7 of the 12 members there are one and the same person.
Please, just go away and stop bothering us with your spam.
muddycoffee 21-08-2005, 19:37 It's funny that, why would people leave one of the most sucessful forums in the UK to go to a rival one, with a different mod team? There's already at least one break away "sheffield forum" with loads of swearing on. Why start yet another?

One mod. on sy forum, same person as the owner and the same person who keeps sending me daft pm's under many different users names, asking me why I'm not at SY forum - he's very desperate, isn't he?!
40summat 21-08-2005, 19:51 He is lifting threads from here, reproducing them word for word and claiming to be the author now that is sad,
I've just been having a look around it and I am absolutely gobsmacked at how desperate it all looks on that other place.
He's now started copying our threads and other peoples posts from here and then having a conversation with himself about them under his different user names.
It's nice to see a good smattering of bus threads though. They appear to be the most popular threads too. I wonder why ;)
What about this one

Why not just IP ban him? He can't even look on the forum then.

Its pretty easy to change your IP address though
Don't ban the bum, he supplies us with something to moan about on a boring Sunday night :D :D :D
He has a habit of changing his IP all the time, but as each new one appears we ban it.
I suspect that he is using wireless internet café connections whilst sitting on the top deck of a bus travelling around South Yorkshire. :suspect:
redrobbo 21-08-2005, 20:29 There was someone else in the early hours of this morming who started three identical threads about this alternative forum. Spam, spam, spam, and now someone else is spamming as well. How pathetic is this? Just get off our forum and leave us alone. Annoying nerds. Grrr.

Who knows?
Off-topic: I like the ITV Digital monkey avatar.
:)
Hi all,
There are actually several IP addresses involved - some of them are shared by other users so it's difficult to nail them.
Just to fill people in, we've been nailing these posts for several days now and occasionally a few get through and hang around on the board for a while.
All I can say is keep reporting them, and we'll keep whacking them. We also may have a few technical tricks up our sleeve that will help us stay on top of this tomfoolery.
Thanks folks,
Joe

There is nothing wrong with having other forums. i just find it odd that someone would go to all the trouble of changing user names and IP addresses all the time. :loopy: And copying threads from here then adding other bits. Its a bit desperate:confused:

Just laughed out loud (no, I did - literally), when I saw what the thread had been renamed to. Love it. It gave me a warm tingly glow, much as a child would experience when they pee in the sea. Made my night. :D

It's been highly entertaining for those members of SF who've been spammed by PM about this new Forum, and it's been IMMENSE fun for the Mods who've been removing spam postings about it (i.e. multiple copies from multiple IDs) from SF for the last few days.
I personally have no issue with other Forums - however, policy of SF is that we don't allow people to spam the Forum just to advertise them. To clarify things, the real issues that as a Mod. team we've had with the South Yorkshire Forum people are :
Use of multiple IDs on SF.
Spamming SF threads.
Spamming users of SF by PMs.
My main issue with these guys is that they're breaking the T & Cs of SF. Simple as that.

Jon,
Sig rules haven't changed.
Offending sigs will be picked up and the users will be PMd about them. And the one you've probably spotted has already been picked up.

We had someone repeat joining and our ever so cleaver programmer made a small script that managed to auto ban the user even when he changed IP address :?
I'm glad he's on our side :suspect:
Could we not utilize this other forum?
Use it as the equivalent of taking any arguments outside, (not that I've got any gripes with anyone...). It's not like there's anyone there to upset.
Any threads that are getting a bit tricky could be re-directed to this other site to carry on a fight unmoderated, but we could still watch and interject occasionally.
Or they could rename it "Coventry", and any banned people can be sent there, "where's so and so?"
"If you want him, we sent him to Coventry, to think about what he's done......"
Sometimes it's worse been ostrich sized(sic) to somewhere like this, than a total ban.
I like it, SHarper. Or better still, it's like banishing you to Australia for nicking turnips from ye market. On Corrie, all the sacked actors take up new jobs in Sheffield. It'd be like a SF hidden code. Where's Kirky been for the last few weeks? Oh, he mentioned the forum clock. He's become a "temporary member" of the South Yorkshire Forum for a while. Just while things die down.

The idea of exile to the South Yorkshire Forum is kind of cool. Sort of like Devil's Island in cyberspace.
To quote the Simpsons - where the elite meet to have their spirit's broken.... :)

Not totally on topic but I was once told that if a South Yorkshire Police officer did something bad (and got caught), but not bad enough to be sacked, they used to get posted to Maltby.

alchresearch 22-08-2005, 20:36 It's so poor that even a Google search doesn't immediately bring it up! I found another Yorkshire forum that had his pathetic spam all over that one too which led me to it.
spyro2000 22-08-2005, 21:00 The punk has also signed up on my forum saying the same kak pretending to be just a normal person who has "come across the SY forum" and 'recommending' it to people on my forum.

Kristian 22-08-2005, 21:48 I didn't spot this thread until just now, and believe me I had a good laugh about it. :D That said, my overriding feeling now is one of pity. What exactly is this sad-act looking to achieve? Does he not realise that he's not recruiting anyone and that he's regarded as a complete fool by the vast majority?
Crannie / Sigmar / Trust / whichever personality you are today, If you're reading this, please get real. Nobody wants to join a forum where one person talks to themselves about public transport; it's boring, and you're just annoying folk.
Please just stay away.

SlimboyFat 22-08-2005, 22:56 Can I now receive my award for being the first person to get a ban at his forum.
I posted under the ID of Bernard. Signed up when he first started spamming another forum where I admin, used the different ID and straight away he made me a mod (oh goody).
Today I decided that enough was enough after spotting all the posts from here that he has done a copy and paste on so I linked them back to here.
These have now been removed and my account has been banned.
And he goes on stating that you have freedom of speach at his forums.....

Don_Kiddick 23-08-2005, 22:44 Oh By the way, look out for furtive posting from user MILLINGTON - his latest ADMIN name....

Kristian 23-08-2005, 22:51 If he's reading this (and I assume he is  ) I hope he realises that there are no 'quick hits' to starting a forum. If he's going to make a success of it it won't be by spamming users of other forums or speaking to himself under different guises. I dunno, the folly of youth!

I read this thread last night and it had me laughing out loud!
Just to say that I never quite found the 'other place' (despite searching for it (SY ?), but it doesn't matter, because it has amused me greatly. Someone with a grudge? (but no sense??)
Well there is still another SF rival that was started up a while ago by people who thought that it was a restriction of their civil liberties not to be able to eff and jeff online.
That one seems to have crashed and burned quite quickly too.
SF isn't perfect - it never could be. I do think that it offers enough variety for lots of people to keep interesting and vibrant. Wait until we get the next lot of first years into the university in September :D
At the end of the day, it's you lot that make it.

Well it's funny that because I had the sy forum on my favourites, and it now seems to have magically and automatically transformed into the Rotherham forum. All those memberships and posts wasted and gone up in smoke. :shakes:
Still, we have banned cranworth and millington from SF for being the same person. Perhaps we got it wrong ;) Mind you, all his posts here seem to have gone up in smoke too :D

All S F admin have to do now is close all the forums in the world. Digital Spy has 110,064 members so more to life the Sheff forum ;)
redrobbo 24-08-2005, 00:41 Bit touchy Jon?
SF Admin haven't closed any forum. You PM'd me a while ago with a link to another forum. I've visited several other forums in fact, but none has the appeal of SF. If this other forum was existing on someone lifting posts from SF, and then engaging in a one-person conversation, it seems to me that it wasn't attracting the necessary interest to sustain it. SF Admin can hardly be blamed for that.

Jon,
We couldn't give a stuff about other Forums being there - but we will NOT put up with their owners breaking the rules on SF, spamming our members through PM and e-mail and lifting our content. Simple as that.
I'm assuming you're kidding about us having other Forums closed down. We just focus on making SF the best we can, not interfering with other people's activities.
Given that we've accepted your linking to your Forum in your Sig. in recent weeks, I think you're being rather disingenuous about things.

Its wrong that they lift our content.
It is also wrong that Radio Sheffield lifts it at least once a week.
Mr Robinson is the biggest culprit.
Why dont we go round there and unplug them!....but only after Toby's show.
:D :D
Isn't there some sort of law against lifting the conents of SF and publishing it as their own.
For instance isn't what I write mine and mine alone.
I didn't think people could do that and get away with it once it was noticed.

You do indeed, Hazel, own your words.
And to be fair they only lifted the thread titles - ideas, if you will - and you can't copy ideas, only their expression.
We could have cut up rough about them stealing titles but it's not worth the hassle.

Internetowl 24-08-2005, 11:07 Seems the SY forum is no more - its now a Rotherham forum - imagine how entertaining that will be - do they have computers in Rotherham?
it wouldnt have had half the members it had if people were not tempted to have a look by the actions of over zealous mods on our own forum,a little compassion on the bans would have not let the s y f even have got off the ground
a lesson to be learnt by us all, a little more consideration on all our parts keeps s f at the top of the hill

I never said what the pm was about did i ? carry on the witch hunt or bullying of Cranworth ;)
Witch hunt / bullying? It just looks like people expressing opinions on a forum spammer to me.
You need to remember that the amount of spam created by this person took many hours to clear up and caused a needless moderating headaches for a while.
Finally it seems that the individual has got the hint and realised that his spam and his new member accounts were lasting only a matter of minutes.

I'm trying to keep the bickering to pm's honest!
People expressing opinions, i totally agree people have the right too..but how many have been banned for doing so?
Don't you think cranworth will be loving all the publicity this thread is generating and maybe it should have been removed on day one of posting?
Just expressing an opinion.

I now use the rotherham one its very good, some good people on it,and its not so PC as this one.
Roy, are you canvassing on the Rotherham board - pm me the link to the forum :)
Tulip, if it who I think it might be then she is welcome back anytime, and yes, she is a good contributer.
Some of the very best people get banned at one time or another Tulip :D Haven't you had one yet? It can be easily arranged if you'd like to experience it for yourself. ;)

No Jon, you have no rights, just the facility to use the Forum in line with the rules and with respect to other people, including those who run this place on behalf of everyone else. People don't get banned for expressing opinions, they get banned for things like being stupid or deliberately winding people up or posting overt racisim or threats of violence. You know, that kind of thing.

I think I slopped through the net or went away and didn't know I was banned:o EDIT: I meant SLIPPED through the net, but slopped sounds better!
It is who you think it is and she took the ban very hard. Thanks for saying that, it might encourage her back:clap:
Well I hope that she does, we enjoy having her around. It was me that gave the ban, and it was really just for cooling off. She hadn't done anything major, but a thread was just getting far too heated and needing too much moderating.
I won't say anything else - there's nothing to say.

Roy joined the Rovvrem Forum folks - it's NOT Crannies rotherham forum. Cranny is just trying anything to have his own forum but going anout it the wrong way. Alienating & spamming is not the way forward. :D

Happens all the time mate :heyhey: :hihi:
Fishpole 24-08-2005, 21:48 I actually think this is very sad and am surprised the Do-Gooders haven't risen to the defence of the One Man Forum. It's clear to me that this person is extremely lonely and in definate need of help.
If this forum is as politically correct as it comes across, it would surely have some compassion for someone so sad. Or are we talking double standards here?

i was thinking that as well i bet if it was a kosovan refugee wanting to meet freinds and someone said somthing the race watchers would be onto them like a shot
maybe mental illness isnt right on enough for them ?
Don_Kiddick 24-08-2005, 22:11 Seriously. It is easy to like the lad (?) at first & maybe feel a little compassion because he does come over somewhat soft.
But when, time after time after time he's been asked by EVERY mod on EVERY forum that he's spamming - to cease.
Even, in some cases given his own thread, STILL insists on putting links in every 'area' anyway.
It becomes very irksome indeed.
THEN to persistantly pm other users who have had a look and made their own decision NOT to sign up to his forum.
Is stalking :loopy:
theyre back.......just had an e mail that cranworth is back online with his forum

Did Cranworth send you loads of links that turned out to be links to advertisements? He sent me quite a few. I think he's being paid millions by the advertising companies he's supporting and is sat in a house made out of gold bricks, platinum and diamonds laughing at us all! Tell CaroleK, she sort it out:thumbsup:
Hi all,
Hope no-one minds too much but I'm going to lock this one now and let it quietly float away....
It's been, as they say, emotional.
In the meantime the Moderating team will return to Moderating SF, cranworth or whoever can get back to running HIS forum (and hopefully stays off of spamming us) and people wanting to use both or neither Forums can get on with it without fear or favour. :)
Cheers,
Joe
