View Full Version : Problems with Telewest
Happy New Year to everyone.
Me and my family had over the last 3 days watched Most Haunted on Living and last night the team were in York trying to find Dick Turpin.
We were enjoying it when 1 hour and 10 mins into the 3 and a half our live show the cable went off. It took us 2 and a half hours to get through to Telewest to be told a country wide blackout that happened in Liverpool had occured.
When we phoned them this morning we asked if they would repeat the last night to be told rather bluntly NO.
What a pigged off start to the New Year and why can`t Technology be as good as the big digital companies state it is.
We still in this day and age live in a country that stops when we have rain and snow to any extent.
How dissapointing.
Tony Ruscoe 01-01-2004, 14:12 Sorry to hear about your problems, but with all due respect I don't think it's possible for Telewest to repeat the programmes since they were on Living.
I dare say they'll be repeated anyway since most of the stuff on cable is repeated several times in a week anyway! ;)
cosywolf 01-01-2004, 15:05 I use Telewest, and one good thing about them is if you complain loudly enough, you can usually at least get the odd extra station for a month.
Apart from that, I am fed up with their 'new and improved' service. It always takes you straight to the main menu instead of giving you credit for knowing if you want to look at the tv guide or book a movie. I am also having to reboot the whole thing at least once a fortnight, as it crashes and freezes regularly.
Still, the broadband is quick and efficient (just as well if I want to speak to friends and family in the US it costs a bomb to phone them on Telewest tariffs so I use chat), so I don't suppose we'll be changing anytime soon.
Cosy:P
I have only had Telewest since 23rd December and last night (new years eve) it went off and did not come back until this morning BUT Sky really rip you off, they are so expensive and once they have you as a customer you go to the bottom of the list. Sky also used to freeze and go off and on when there was bad weather. I really do think you get a much better deal with Telewest and their customer call centre does seem to be in this country as opposed to Sky.
We had the same problem, but I thought it was the weather.
:(
Living tv or Telewest since the people that own both are going to join forces if you read the press, have said it is being repeated on the 6th but only 3 hours worth when over the 3 nights there were 10 and a half hours so we won`t get to see what we wanted.
According to the Most Haunted forum a lot of people are annoyed and the building in Liverpool flodded. Some Sky Digital went as well.
We have not made much progress in 10 years from when I started having Sky. Overall I am happy with Telewest apart from the problems like last night and also Telewest customers in London get more channels than us up here.
I had Telewest broadband internet for a couple of years on and off, depending on where I was living at the time, and apart from a few hiccups along the way like the connection going down every now and again, it was generally a good service.......when it was working.
As soon as it stops working you have a problem because their customer service staff don't communicate with each other and you have to call them back about 3 times if you want anything done. Best advice is go with them if you want good rates, but be prepared for them to let you down a few times if you have any problems or if anything needs fixing.

You can check but I think you will find that the Sky call centre is in Glasgow.
Not that that makes any difference anyway.
Sky have always been more reliable and cheaper than the cowboy cable outfits.
As for the intermittant signal. That was more likely due to the dish not being correctly aligned.
Another big difference is that if the cable HUB experiences difficulty. As demonstrated you lose all channels.
As Sky use 4 main sources from different locations, the only way for bulk loss of transmission is to find a way of taking out the satellite.
Sorry Venger have to disagree with you there darlin! Spoke to Sky christmas eve and they were millions of miles away, it does matter because if you get a constant echo in your ear very hard to hear and understand what is being said to you.
I had Sky for 3 years in that time I had 3 different boxes. Always after the year warranty had run out they broke. Surley I can't be that unlucky? Also very expensive £34 a month plus £35 a month for phone. I now have the same with Telewest and broadband as well for £10 a month cheaper. The weather does effect Sky and if my dish was not aligne dcorrectly then Sky need to train their staff. I wanted Sky Plus before christmas they told me no problems I could have it and when I booked it and they took my money (£240) then told me it would not be done until 11th Jan? They then took 16 days to return my money. As a new customer I would have got Sky Plus before christmas, I was told this by a Sky sales person. This service is not acceptable and they are no longer having my money.
End of ranting, sorry but they have REALLY wound me up!
waxinmoon 02-01-2004, 16:01 i have heard that it will be on again on tues 6th at 9pm.......But i think we'll only be getting the hightlights.Hope this is good news for you.If you telephone them and complain they are offering a free move so i have been told.
Moon Maiden 02-01-2004, 16:09 I have to admit that the point on the second night where she was screaming at her shadow were very funny.
My favourite person is Mathew - the scientist, the guy with his head screwed onto his shoulders.
There was one point during the whole evening of the last show that showed some interesting results, when Derek did his possession twitches and got through to a Eugene fella who was hung at the Tyburn in something 79. The dates aparently were correct with the Historian.
The rest was a joke, particularly the seance. I rekon Derek got the best deal as he cried off the snow and cold because he was exhausted.

I think one of Telewests fault finding call centres is in Sheffield... but for how long?!
