Inspired from the Human League thread (and seeing the SF member Babooshka) my mind wandered to Kate Bush...
Well it would wouldn't it?

Anyone know what she's doing these days?
What ever happened to her singing career?

Is she still alive???

She was really good & I have a few of her albums.

Not listened to them for a while though.

Might have to dig 'em out now.

I think she's a bit of a recluse isn't she?

She is probably being oh-so-kooky in her great big house & scaring the local children .

She is a recluse. Lives in some little house in the middle of the Thames and never comes out. Shame. She was fab. Did you know she invented the hands free microphone head piece?

How sad!

I bet she gets a lot of damp problems living in the Thames though :P

She's a fantastic artist.

I once saw an interview with the technician who came up with how to do it after she said she wanted it for her appearance on TOTP singing Wuthering Heights. He said he bent a coat hanger & fitted a mic & it all went from there.

Fact of the day: she's from Sidcup originally.

Kate Bush is a phenomenon. Wildly creative and uncompromising in her music and incisively deranged and bleak in her lyrics. Her musical skill outweighs that of many artists, and her penetrating, siren voice is second to none. I love her.

As far as I know she's still very much musically active.

From what I remember, didn't she inherit loads of money? Not sure whether it was from her parents?

She has a really unique voice and approach to her music. She's very individual and that's what I really like about her.

What about Cloudbusting and the Saxophone Song?

I was in a club in London on Saturday night and they mixed the Man with the Child in his eye with some breakbeat - brilliant!

I hope her new album does appear.

I understood she Left the music industry for a while to bring up her children. She also suffered from a mental illness, might have been Anorexia, but her lovely face went all liney, very suddenly in a very short space of time.

There is a famous story about how she invited some industry people down to her cottage so show her some new work which she had been working on and it was cooking and she had been developing a Cake recipe..

I hope she's back to music soon, she was the first of a whole genre of modern female singer songwriters Including, Sarah Mclauchlan, Tori Amos etc...

Remember the track the Utah Saints did with a sample of Cloudbusting ?

I can't wait for the next album, it's very rare she writes something I don't like. It's a shame she never got round to making the video/film for "The Ninth Wave" :( but "The Line, the Cross and the Curve" was pretty good, probably due to having Miranda Richarson in it too :)

HUGE FAN...and one of my first crushes!

There are timeless gems on Lionheart and The Kick Inside, but I've always been more partial to the ethereal quality of Hounds of Love, The Sensual World and even the outlandish sounds of The Red Shoes.

A great artist whom I will always love to hear and hold as a personal heroine of the imagination.

Kate Bush, my fave female artist. Is due to release her new album at some point this year. Can't wait for that.

She's had a fair break from music, to be exact 12 years! Her last album The Red Shoes was released in 1993. Since then she has had son called Bertie, who she's concentrated on more than music since then. (Good on her).

She got discovered by Dave Gilmour in the early 70's, and was signed to EMI when she was 16. They gave her some money to 'grow up' with, and gave her 3 years to become more established as a songwriter and performer, as they felt she was still too young to be launched to the public. They gave her an advance of several thousand pounds, and she used to the dosh, on dance and vocal lessons etc. I've also read that she received a small inheritance from a relative, around that time, but I don't think it was a massive amount. Apparently she used the money she got from the sales of 'Wuthering Heights', to buy a brand new Steinway Piano.

I can't see why anyone should want to knock her to be honest, she's always kept herself to herself. She's not a recluse exactly, she just doesn't like all the fame thing, she likes to lead a normal life. She's obsessed with her music, not herself like most celebrities. She is a true artist in every sense of the word. She writes and produces all of her own albums. Directs and choreographs her own videos. She is completely involved in every aspect of her work, and is highly original. I've found that anyone who slates her, is not really all that knowledgeable about her as an artist or a person, so really they ought to find out a bit more about her and her work before making a judgement.

People still refer to her a the shrieking hippy, but to be honest she hasn't sung in that style since about 1982. her vocal style completely changed after that, and so this is a very outdated stereotype of her. Although I don't think the stereotype is a bad one, I rather think it is complimentary to be classed as different.

My fave KB tracks are:

Breathing
Moving
Hello Earth
Houdini
Babooshka.

But to be honest I like all of her songs, there isn't a single one I don't like. Kate Bush just doesn't do sh*t music.

It's brilliant! Definitely a Kate Bush song... catch it on "listen again" (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/bruce/) (1 song after the 10AM news).

Yes, heard it twice now, quite like it and think it will be a 'grower'. I think Kate-fans will like it, but I don't think she'll win a new generation of followers though.

Has she done a video?

They have pulled the Kate Bush plug off that page.
You can still get the repeat of the show though by clicking on the Wednesday 'Listen Again' button.

This will expire after a week.

I am sorry if this is slightly off topic; but I was listening to Kate on my ipod nano today and I rediscovered a song that I had not heard for some years.

I wanted to post the lyrics here as I have always loved this song, but I only realised today how visionary this song had been.

The song is called 'Deeper Understanding'. It's on 'The Sensual World' Album and it was released in 1989! Many, many years before the internet took hold...

As the people here grow colder
I turn to my computer
And spend my evenings with it
Like a friend.
I was loading a new programme
I had ordered from a magazine:
Are you lonely, are you lost?
This voice console is a must.
I press Execute.
Hello, I know that you've been feeling tired.
I bring you love and deeper understanding.
Hello, I know that you're unhappy.
I bring you love and deeper understanding.
Well I've never felt such pleasure.
Nothing else seemed to matter.
I neglected my bodily needs.
I did not eat, I did not sleep,
The intensity increasing,
'Til my family found me and intervened.
But I was lonely, I was lost,
Without my little black box.
I pick up the phone and go, Execute.
Hello, I know that you've been feeling tired.
I bring you love and deeper understanding.
Hello, I know that you're unhappy.
I bring you love and deeper understanding.
I turn to my computer like a friend.
I need deeper understanding.
Give me deeper understanding.

P.S - I'm glad this was my 1 000th post:)

I have the new Kate Bush CD in my laptop. I'm about to import it to i-tunes. I've only listened to it twice so far (with interruptions - the Toad, work- ) but it seems a real return to form for the lady.

It seems breezy and lighthearted. I'm going to enjoy the next 2 weeks getting to know this album... after 12 years odd... "Question": Can life get any better than this?

There are some good tunes on the new album, not too sure about the washing machine song, but I think the whole thing will grow on me after a couple of listens.

Does KB sing on the trailer for the ITV drama Walk Away and I Stumble?

If so what song is it?

My girlfriend really likes it but its diving her mad trying to find out who's the singer and what the title is.

Cheers.

If it's the advert I've just seen then it is Kate Bush. The song is called "This Woman's Work".

It is a brilliant, sad song. You can get it on "The Sensual World" Album.
