View Full Version : Cheapest way to set up a wireless network from a wired dtr36 15-03-2010, 20:41 hi i am looking to send a wifi signal from a wired router to my computer which has a wireless adapter, but the main network is wired how do i do this on the cheap? steev 15-03-2010, 20:58 You can just get wireless access points that would work as long as your wired modem/router has a spare network socket, but to be honest you're looking at a pretty much identical cost for a wireless modem/router, so to keep things simple you may as well just get one of those. A quick look on ebuyer (all inc. VAT but exc. delivery) shows the cheapest access point at about £27.50 (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/112497), the cheapest ADSL wifi modem/router at £30 (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/198659), or if you're on Virgin their cheapest cable DSL wifi modem/router at £22.50 (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/88488) until Friday, so if you're on cable that's the way to go. gillybear 15-03-2010, 21:52 Your broadband provider may send one free of charge, If they supplied the original then phone them and say it's playing up and they may send a replacement which will most likely be wireless. steev 16-03-2010, 09:57 Good call, or alternatively (as if you tell them it's playing up they may try to "fix" it :hihi: ) I suppose you could tell them to upgrade you to wireless or you're changing providers. dtr36 16-03-2010, 18:40 just got a bluetooth acces point and dongle on ebay hope this works ASPGuru 16-03-2010, 18:57 Bluetooth has very short range and speed. It is not proper wifi. I think you will be disappointed. |
