View Full Version : Faulty car lights - any ideas? spook 20-08-2005, 19:06 ............ muddycoffee 20-08-2005, 19:16 Could you explain what a rear position light is? I have never heard of them. Ford wiring is usually pretty good. Sometimes with automotive light bulbs, the solder tips get worn down a little and will test ok but not illuminate. If so you can build up the solder if you are careful or replace them. spook 20-08-2005, 19:22 ............ alchresearch 20-08-2005, 19:33 Originally posted by muddycoffee Ford wiring is usually pretty good. I've found Fords to be the worst cars for bulb related problems. I've seen more Sierras whose back brake lights flash and dim in time to the indicators than any other car! Light wiring is usually arranged so that if one circuit, bulb or fuse goes to the lights at one side of the car, the other side remains working. To lose both sides would indicate a break in the main wiring loom from front to back. You don't have a tow bar on it do you? spook 20-08-2005, 19:37 ............ sccsux 20-08-2005, 19:59 Originally posted by spook no. Oh dear this is beginning to sound expensive. :gag: Then again, it could just be a bad earth?? DragonofAna 20-08-2005, 20:06 Oh come on - Ford lights bad. Where you get that one from? I have seen so many small cars - none fords - that have one rear light out I was beginning to think Fords were the only ones with reliable rear lights. I found out that one faulty bulb in my Mondeo sent the whole headlight system freaky. Lights that would only come on intermittantly and so on. I replaced the bulb and it all went right again. They do not make bulbs like they used to so you get your fingers on those halogens and you are asking for problems. My money is on the bad earth. If you're going to shoot down my comment about Ford electrics, DON'T mention your own fault that a single bulb freaked out the entire headlight system on a FORD Mondeo! muddycoffee 21-08-2005, 08:01 I'm with Dragon here, fords are usually good for electrics. Italian and french cars have appalling wiring. Fiats are terrible, Citroens and Renault are bad too. I have had several fords and I have never had any problems. I would suggest getting brand new bulbs, for your rear lights and see if that cures it. Make sure the plugs on the light clusters are dry and properly located. And make sure the wiring up to the plugs is not frayed or crushed. |
