Not quite sure what you mean Zinger but if you have your own webspace etc, you can always have a pbpBB forum, and completely free. www.phpbb.com

There are a lot of forums based on that template. Regular security updates and excellent support from other forumers.

It is relatively easy to make your own graphics and change the css style, which message board are you wanting to change?
