Clubs just don’t run for “free” there is the shirts, balls, nets, flags, hire of pitch and pay for ref and that’s just for starters.

When my lads played for a junior team my wife was the treasurer and it’s a nightmare, parents would come out with all sorts of excuses for not paying their subs but still expect little Johnny to be first on the team sheet.

If it really as to be “free” I would have thought you would have to be looking at the school team, good luck.

I have a 13yr old son who is mad on football. Is dream is to join a football team, but i cant afford for him to join any and dont have any transport to get him there. We live in shiregreen so if anyone knows any teams that are for free near shiregreen cud you send me some details PLEASE! thanks sherryl

What are you prepared to give up to pay for him to play football? Full team kit, circa £500, set of nets and, posts and flags circa £100, ref for home matches circa £25 per game, end of seasons awards circa £150, pitch hire circa £50 per home game.

Now who do you want to pay for your lad to play football?
