I just saw the posters advertising the new season of X Factor and I have to say that it seems like the right time to start the whole sorry thing over again as the chap who won it last year seems to have finally disappeared up his own *rse.

Each time one of these show comes on I vow that I won't watch it and then end up sat in a room with Mrs Carmine and all her gay mates whilst a new set of tw*ts warble away in front of the two condescending and ineffectual judges and just wait for Simon Cowell to open his mouth and say what they're all thinking (apart from Louie Walsh, the human echo chamber).

I think that Cowell's the only reason I watch and I just hope that we have a reapeat of classic moments such as time he pointed out to a contestant that they simply couldn't sing.

"YOU CAN'T SING!" the hopeful retorted, like a flailing wilderbeast in the jaws of a crocodile. Cowell simply pointed out that he didn't have to...I nearly wet myself laughing at that one.:hihi:

How could someone be in the bottom two one week but get the highest number fo votes the next week, how come each judge ended-up with two acts left at the end.

It's fixed I tell ya.

X Factor is almost upon us... very much looking forward to it...

Anyway what i really want to know is...

Has anyone from the Sheffield Forum auditioned for X Factor 2005?

I'd like to have ago for the laugh... but defo not got the courage to be told to get out and stop wasting they're time  lol

I love the X factor...

Missed the auditions this time round - they only did three dates and I found out about the manchester one the week after :(

Auditioned for Fame Academy in the past - it's all a bit of a lottery really...

That dodgy rapping lad that was on last year probably gave sheffielders a bad name for this series...

I will watch it purely for the bad auditions! Provides me with more laughs than post of the TV programmes these days.

My favourite ever which i literally did cry at on the floor and was uncontrollable for 20 minutes was off Pop Idol and it was the Chicken guy who looked like he was pecking bird seed when singing 'I believe i can fly'. Remember him

I find myself strangley looking forward to the new series that starts tonight. The early episodes are always the best as you get all sorts of weirdos truely thinking that they can sing. Will anybody else be watching it?

hazel
20-08-2005, 13:41
I was glued to the set last time and I don't normally watch that sort of program, but all those people who really thought they could sing!! Did they hear themselves as good.?

OK, so what is more pathetic....the contestants who are clearly a plant or the fake arguments and disagreements between the judges?

Simon and that walsh guy having a barny while the cameras "secretly" film through the glass pane in the door....gimme strength.

Oooops, sorry, I nearly forgot it was ITV Saturday night entertainment...of course it insultsing to you....its the nature of ITV

I won't be watching, might watch Around the world in 80 Days on Sky at 8 though.

Come on ITV FFS! Can't you give us something NEW to watch on Saturday nights instead of regurgitating the same sh*te every week?! :loopy: Even the Lotto show over on BBC 1 is better even though I never win anything more than a ten bob note.

Oh she was awful singer, yes she did get carried away, and her mum saying Simon ahs destoryed her career, she never had one in singing. A case of "never give up you day job".

The 16 yr old blond lad has a good voice, and the 20 yd old guy near the end was very good as well.

The bands all sound the same, but its only week 1.

The John lennon fella was well "freaky", he spooked me.

Right, this girl is never going to be a star. BUT, she could sing to a decent level. If she was slim and pretty she would be through no doubt. But that's fair enough, it's part of what it's about.

She was 19 tho' and looked at least 10 years older than me and I'm 29.

"I've failed at everything I've ever done" - Christ girl, you're 19.

And her mum saying "Where's Simon? I'm gonna find him and I'm gonna fight him"

Brilliant.

That girl was classic x-factor. She could sing relatively well (at least she's not one of these who can't hold a tune but still think they're great singers) - but the whole image was just bizarre. She looked 15 years older than she was, the dress was awful, the make-up was awful, and she had a deirdre poodle perm. Her mum looked younger and more like a pop star than she did!

I have never watched the X Factor, or similar programmes, but caught the last ten minutes tonight. I felt sorry for the girl. It might be argued that you take a risk by appearing in such programmes, in that you may end up famous but you may also end up as an object of ridicule, even a laughing stock.

Well, this is no doubt acceptable if the people concerned are well-balanced. But i got the impression that this girl was particularly vulnerable and probably mentally disturbed - indeed her whole family appeared to be mentally disturbed (I hope they were all acting, otherwise i think there is cause for concern). Should we take a vicarious pleasure in the misfortunes of others? Well, to do so is human - but when they are as clearly vulnerable as the girl in question, then I have my doubts. Then it crosses the line into cruelty.

I got the feeling that the only problem this girl had was a deluded image of herself caused by over-indulgent parents who have only ever told her how perfect and fantastic she is. So when she fails at something she takes it especially badly. Apparently Simon Cowell's style of telling it how it is, being cruel to be kind, was hailed in the US because just this sort of parenting has been producing a whole generation of people who think they are brilliant at everything because they have never received any sort of criticism (constructive or otherwise) from parents who feel it will destroy their self-esteem. There's nothing wrong with having dreams, but you have to be realistic too.

I agree, but if the dreams of vulnerable (probably unbalanced) people are to be shattered, then there are better places to do it than on prime time television.

I agree completely. But this is another problem with the kind of parents who bring their kids up this way - they won't tell them that going on television isn't the best way to find out if you're good enough to make the cut (because this would mean admitting to them that they may actually fail at something), or (as seemed to be the case with this girl) they are so deluded with their own child's 'talent' that they don't envisage them failing either. No doubt they are now blaming everyone but themselves for her public humiliation.

ANGELUS
21-08-2005, 08:57
I'm picking my winner now... the young blonde lad.
What a voice on him!! :)

Either him or the lass who sang the whitney song

The freako's

Geezer with the John lennon box..
It was him singing all the time, why didnt he click on that the judges knew from the off... very very weird guy.

The 19year old lass with her begging family..
I did feel quite sorry for her, but looking like a tramp and then singing quite bad and really nervously, so she got the thumbs down from me- what is it about pushy families telling their kids that they will win X Factor... no they wont, but it makes for entertaining TV... and finally.

The 'real life boyfriend and girlfriend'
How good was this, when big tony the bouncer got rid of the lad and he was shouting 'Sing them a song Dela!' - I had to watch this a couple of times because I nearly pished myself laughing... bless them.

There wasnt any need to have a go at simon though after, it really does make you look like a bit of a **** and makes you look like a mardy arse as well in the process.

I agree with the indulgent parent bit.

These people never say NO to their children so they grow up thinking they can have anything they want.
So they audition on X Factor and can't take no for an answer becase it's something beyond ther comprehension.
You see them coming into school at 5 yrs old. This seems to be the first serious no they have encountered. Thier mouths drop open in surprise when it's said to them. They think-- she can't mean me.

Well he did warn us on the shefffield forum that he was goin to try again this year...Im so glad i missed him this time round :D .So was he any better .
This is what gets me mad about this program.Ither think they can sing and still go back for more to be told yet AGAIN that they can not sing.Just a quick way of getting on tv,but they dont realise they makeing a fool of them selfs and think it funnny..First time yes it may be funny 2nd time pain in arse.

What a nobend.

Just watched a lookback program on the series last year- 'The Secret of X' and he was on that - mouthing off again.

He did a rap and read it from a sheet of paper... how crap a rapper is he really?? Science from BB- shoots them out from brain-mouth straight away.. someone who has talent and hopefully will go a long way.

I thought he was great, not in a "you've got tallent" way, but in a "you make me laugh" way. And at the end of the day he has got enough self-belief and bottle to go on the show, which most of us haven't.

He made me laugh as well through his chav like appearance and trying to be like Eminem, till I realised he was representing Sheffield and then I felt sick.

I am ashamed that this village idiot comes from our beloved town.

If he had talent, then fair enough, but to act like an arse in front of millions of watching people.. its not giving off the best impression of sheffield is it really?

I watch it because everyone that gets put down - that is, everyone who is finally told the truth: You can't sing - deserves it.

All this cobblers, ranting and raving 'You've ruined my career', 'I'll show you you are wrong Mr Cowell' (totally oblivious to the fact that Mr Cowell's artists and groups have sold over one hundred million records) and 'You know nothing about music' just makes me roll on the floor.

Some advice to these total losers. If it means so much to you, as you pretend (although personally I reckon you just want to be on television even if it does mean making a dick of yourself) then why not:

1) Practice singing/have singing lessons;

2) Learn a musical instrument. Learn with a friend or have lessons;

3) Join/form a band. Rehearse, get gigs, work your arse off, get well known, earn yourself an audience, get paid, buy better equipment, play bigger venues; and

4) Join a gym, take better care of your appearance (if necessary - I'm more interested in a person's musical talent than their looks).

WHY NOT? Too much like hard work? You REALLY want to make it?

Nah, you'll have videod your fifteen seconds of fame on the X-Factor and deep inside you'll know that that's as good as it gets.

This show is so funny. Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne are hilarious. That 19yr old (WHAT!) girl was classic, but what were her family particularly her mother trying to do? make her suicidal? As for that particular member of the Sheffield Forum who keeps making an appearance as a 'rapper' Please take a look at yourself and see what an a**e you look. You can't rap, you can't sing the only thing you are any good at is embarrassing yourself. GIVE IT UP!
Having said that if everyone who went on was any good it wouldn't be the same show - we wouldn't have anything to laugh at!

Tonights episode-- the idiots roundup

My nobend of the week award goes to -drum roll-
Supermarket Supervisor Tony...

As soon as the guy walked through the door, with his singing 'partner' I knew I would hate him...

And lo and behold.. I did indeedy.

As soon as they told him NO- that was it, the toys were definitely out of the pram.. and to tell someone who has sold 100m records around the world.. that 'You are not going to the toilet- you are talking to me' just took the **** for me..

Who did he think he was- just because he probably bosses around people in a supermarket.. a'hole!

Yes, more like the cringe factor than X factor tonight!

It's repeated numerous times on ITV2 on Saturday and Sunday.

That Anthony guy was hilarious. He just reeked of cheese. I think the fact that his singing partner had evidently decided against humiliating herself by singing with him spoke volumes about her thoughts on his chances of getting through. I loved how he couldn't see anything wrong with how he was dressed - that tie was classic caberet, how the hell did he think it was stylish?!?

Plus he reminded me of this c*** I work with, looks a bit like him and the sheer arrogance and thinking he was something he's not was just like him.

Yeah to be honest it would not be hard to go on X-Factor and be better than you. Just by going on the show and not even opening my mouth I would do better than you.

The first few rounds on this program are absoluteley golden. I haven't laughed so hard in ages. I almost feel sorry for the people who are so bad it's good.

It's just a shame that ultimately, this program is all about churning out yet another pop 'star' with limited talent, who will be quickly forgotten within months of the series finishing.

He is a bit of an exception though. Didn't that Steve guy who won last year get dropped by his record company a few months back? Quite funny when you think the whole X Factor idea (and what they said made it different from its predecessors) was to find someone with the special something that would make them a lasting star.

Slighty off topic of Chico but, if Louis Walsh thought James was to young to handle a live show and that Trevor had an image problem, why on earth did he let them get through his boot camp session last week.

Wouldn't it have been kinder to let them down earlier on than let them practically see the final, it's not has though he didn't know their ages or images until last saturday.

The whole X Factor ethos is a bit wierd if you ask me.

Each week they whittle away at the poor sods who got through the auditions and grind their nerves to nothing by drumming it into them that they can only win through a combination of bland peformances and blind obedience to the judges.

They select people based on percived vocal talent and then as soon as they have them in private start them on a crash course that gives them no time to establish a relationship with their material.

Then every other week they start to tamper with the style that the contestants perform in. They have them sing stuff that "challenges" them rather than trying to find the style that best suits the individual. In the real world that'd be suicide with a recording artist. Imagine asking the late Barry White to sing covers from McFly's back catalogue.

Of course when the contestant fails to either learn the song in time or finds that it jars with their vocal style they've "let the judges and themselves down".

And then there's Louie Walsh...to be honest he looked terrified as he was sitting through the thing last Saturday. He'd picked the songs and when he heard them it was as though he suddenly forgot what he was doing there. At the end of the day he seems to have picked a few interesting faces earlier in the contest and then lost his bottle and plumped for the bland model types when it came to putting his neck on the line.

Monday morning at Louie's studio for the four he kept:

"Here's your blazer and copy of Westlife's greatest hits, I'm off to sit in the cupboard and hope everything will work out fine."

I dont see the problem, surely the contestants know what they are letting themselves into when they entered.

Btw, which one is Chico??? I like that kid thats looks like a young Michael Jackson, hes very very good.

Chico is the one that looks like a cheesier version of Ricky martin, I think he basically got thru coz he took his top off and did some kind of strange dodgy dancing!!

The kid who looks like he should be in the Jackson 5 is James, its the biggest travesty (sp?) in the world that he didnt get through!

I think Sharon has lost the plot letting Chico through to her final 4. He can't sing and just thinks flashing his chest will win him votes. I hope he's gone on the first round of live shows. I didn't like him when I first saw him in the auditions and I agreed with Simon when he said to Sharon - 'You're pathetic'.

Imagine him singing; "Livin' the vida loca, livin'the vida loca, livin' the vizzzzzzzzzzzzzozozoozzzzzzzzzzzz oh, s8@t!!!!"

This is the first time I've actually watched X Factor, and I can't understand the Chico thing either.

But, what really annoyed me was Louis sending home James and Trevor - if he thinks they're too young for the stress of the competition, why do they have a category that starts at 16 years of age?! Compared to some other 16 year olds, they both seemed quite mature and I really liked them both, especially James.

I'm not saying there is a problem, just that the approach the judges take seems somewhat bizarre for the most part in that rather than working with the contestants to bring out the best in them they give them material that's unsuitable and browbeat them constantly.

If that's what people want to sign up for then they can go ahead!

God only knows why Chico got through, he can't sing and he can't do much else either by the looks of it. He danced in the pool - with a mike plugged into the mains, is he mad???

Totally agree, i cant believe Chico was through, Simon Cowell must be having kittens!! If i was one of those sent home i'd feel disgusted.

As for the other categories, i thought Simon was wrong to put through the 4 girls (cant remember the name - not the Conway ones) and send hoem Eskimo Blonde, the main singer was hot!!

I completely agree with this one. This group were consistently dreadful throughout the competition, I don't think they have sung in tune once, not even in the initial audition.

Anyone who jumps into Ozzies pool while performing with a live mic in hand deserves to go through in my opinion- Ozzy said it best- he's been working in music for x amount of years- and even he wouldnt do that.

Class!

ALSO: Louis Walsh.

If you dont want to put two talented kids through, why drag them through the auditions in the first place- giving them both false hope. Yes I think they could have handled the pressure at their age, look at Charlotte Church and Michael Jackson for examples there.

I'd pish myself if Mr Walsh lost now on X-Factor, serves him right really

No he's just pinning one over on Simon because now Simon has lost one of his acts in the competition as opposed to his buddie Sharon!!

Louis really disappointed me last night by being too weak to make the 'right' decision!!

I think the thing between the judges (especially Simon & Louis) is getting a bit personal and last night is a perfect example.

When Louis Walsh said he had chose Addictiv Ladies to go home, :o ! Either Louis really does like Chico, or he was doing that to get back at Simon... My bet is that it was because of the thing between him and Simon.

Repeat ad infinitum, string out the same thing for five years, throw in some really, really forced and tiresome "banter" between judges, and you've got a hit TV show on your hands.

You're so wrong. Admittedly, you do get a fair wack of dross, but some true talent does emerge. Eventually the aritsts who ultimately aren't good enough get dropped by their labels e.g. sinead, david sneddon, steve etc, but the superb artists like will young (two critically acclaimed albums) and lemar survive.

"artists" :D

Suppose it's just not my cup of tea. It's all very formulaic and just seems like a tired format to me.

Plus in the auditions there's something really unpleasant about people who are a "sandwich short of a picnic" being mercilessly ridiculed on national television.

I knew they were a xfactor thread going but did not know it would be a problem to start one about who may go tonight as the thread would end tonight and the other would still run.

Sorry:(
If there is any problems with me posting this thread Im sorry, please let me know if there is.

I have to say 1 thing though p41 I agree they suprised me big time tonight.

Missed most of the show and just caught Shayne's performance. Absolutely brilliant! I can't stand the ego who sang it originally but I thought this excellent. He's a lovely looking fella aswell ;)

I really hope the talentless prat chicco will leave tonight and disappear from our screens forever!

SpiderPete

Chico is just a joke.

Shayne has a great voice, and he is very good lookin, all the girls will scream for him, they were all good tonight apart from Chico and Phillip.

Brenda has a great voice as well, and so does Maria, she did a brill version of the Michael Jackson song.

It will be a shame if someone else apart from Chico and Phillip leave tonight.

OMG - the last part with the judges needs to be scrapped, its Louise & Sharon vs Simon, 4Tune did not deserve to go, the other singer, forgot he name was by far the worse of the 2.

What a shambles the end bit is turning into.

I feel sorry for Simon. He is the only one, who, when he gives his opinion you think, yes you're right. He is not biased against any of the other judges and if I was him I would refuse to go on with the rest of the competition, It's a battle of Louis & Sharon v Simon. Sharon Knows who should have gone tonight just as Louis did last week. Chico's performance I admit was the best I've seen him do, but he has no place in this competition. Chanii should have gone this week or Philip. 4 tune were much better.
SHAYNE WILL WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!PHWOOOOOOR!!!AND WHAT A VOICE!THOSE EYES!!!!!PHWOOOR!!!!!!!!

SpiderPete
22-10-2005, 21:03
Yes I feel for Simon as well, as he is taking on 2 judges, if I was him I wouldnt go on again, it isnt about TALENT which the show is about, its about sharon and louis ganging on Simon.

He is honest on his opinions and when someone is crap he says so, like Phillip was, he hasnt got the x-factor and the public who voted for him want shooting, gawd I am soo annoyed.

I might even do a poll on the end bit. It has to go, and if the MODS merge it I shall thow a "simon" lol ;)

Yes they were all good apart from Phillip, Chico and that other girl against 4Tune.

Maria was brilliant, so was Shayne, the guy who did the Marvin Gaye song, and Brenda was also good, surprise act for me was the Conway Sisters.

But it dont matter how good they are .. its all about the judges anyway... tis ok I am calming down now , lol

after he was done singing i actually said `bloody hell....that was good' he has the complete pop star package... but no doubt he will be given the same writers as every other chart act and become a puppet for a few years.

and that main singer of the conway sisters looks well like she has a right attitute.....can picture her saying `stitch this' and glassing someone haha.

4tune were just TOO over the top... if they were in america they would be famous (in a bad way) by now... and one of them looks like he is constipated when he sings.

4tune didn't deserve to go this week, but there was something about them that just gave me the creeps - they're too slick, too polished. They wouldn't have won it anyway.

Chenai - I thought she was terrible this week, but I think it's more to do with the song she sang, she really struggled with it. However I am finding her constant crying irritating now, she needs to go soon because she could never cope with being famous, it'd give her a nervous breakdown!

Chico - no he can't sing but he adds a lot of fun to the competition, it'd be a much duller competition without him.

Philip is awful, he's so bland. Agree with the comment about that girl from the Conway sisters with the funny teeth, she seems rough as a bear's a**e! Hated Addictiv Ladies, glad they went the first week, they were weak singers and have shown themselves to be arrogant since then.

I think Andy will win - he has mass appeal. Yes, all the young women will vote for Shayne or Nicholas (who I think is excellent), but everyone else will vote for Andy. He's got a great voice, plus people will love the story of a binman getting a record contract.

haha Peter, don't know if that "Louise" you typed was deliberate but it was funny and bang on the mark! Yes I agree the bit with the judges needs to go, unless the bottm 2 end up being acts belonging to the same judge, it is always entirely predictable how the judges will vote. Watched the Xtra Factor afterwards and Sharon said she decided to keep Chenai just because she's a woman?! Well that's all very well but would I buy her records just because I'm a woman??? (I wouldn't buy 4tune's records anyways but that's besides the point...)

Andy or Shayne to win!!! Though I also have a soft spot for Brenda and Maria, I think it'll be Andy or Shayne...

Blimey this is my 1st post in about a month, it's good to be back!!!

I saw this as well and was frankly shocked that she admitted to this. If this was any other walk of life then 4tune would be suing for sex discrimination - I wouldn't blame them if they looked into it because she so readily admitted to it, I don't see why this kind of 'job' is any different to any other in this aspect.

Seems to turning into a Louie and Sharon pick on Simon show.

Philip was the worst this week. He has to go soon he is too bland and getting very nervous - got the voice shakes.

Has anyone else noticed that Brenda has a great voice but sings super fast?

I can see both points of view here. Shayne and Nicholas are both very good looking boys, but they just don't do it for me (too young!). There's very little Oommph Factor in the competition for me - but maybe therein lies the idea of a new show! The hunt for Britain's best looking man, with Simon Cowell telling everyone how ugly they are!

SpiderPete
25-10-2005, 11:49
The show has never been about the singing, its always been about who looks the best, and Shayne does, probably why Philip got out of the bottom 2, as he was obviously the worse singer on the night.

Then the judges spoil things as well by ganing up on Simon.

I cannot stand this girl. And i thought it was appalling when Sharon had to make the decision and Louis was wittering in one ear, which is bad enough, but then Kate Thornton sticks her annoying beak in as well saying "remember Sharon, you voted Chenai off last year,....so who's it going to be?" BLATANTLY trying to influence her. 4Tune [who i thought were much better on the night] stood there calm and dignified while Chenai cried and pulled sorrowful faces at Sharon. I was screaming at the tv i was so angry.

The only consolation i have is that she HAS to go in the next two weeks. Her voice is poor and she's clearly a nervous wreck already.

haha sorry for the rant. I shouldn't watch X factor, it gets me so irate!

I have a lot of respect for Simon now; he made an unbiased, professional opinion and it just goes to show that he is the most genuine of the judges.

I'm soooo glad Chico stayed in (after the hip shaking - sorry if I'm grossing you out  )... :hihi:

Unbiased? Maybe his real reason was cos Philip was under Louis' wing....:suspect:

And how did Chico get there in the first place? The guy can't sing a note. :gag:

Um, you do know the contest is about their vocal talents rather than their other "talents" right?

Aw who am I kidding? If it went on vocal talent alone Will Young would've got chucked off Pop Idol in the first round! :P

Though that's true. I always feel that this series in particular should be about the title : The X Factor - and that means the whole package and something a bit special.

Oh now who am I kidding? I just watch it for the pretty boys. :D

I cringed throughout both of Phillip's performances tonight. At work midweek we were talking how cringe-worthy just those few moves he did last week were (when he was saying he wanted to do rock'n'roll). Can't believe they let him do a whole 3 minutes of it! He's not nearly the best singer there, he's bland, and he's an embarrassingly bad dancer - he deserved to go tonight!

Chico obviously struggled terribly with the vocals tonight - I think he will be next.

Chenai - hope she goes soon, she struggled again this week.

Andy - I thought he was a bit drab tonight actually. Much better in the first week.

Brenda - is getting better and better, she looked and sounded (in Mrs O's words) FABULOUS tonight!

I think Sharon has the three strongest contenders actually in Andy, Brenda and Maria. Shayne is ok, his looks do him a lot of favours, so he'll be around for a while. Nicholas could be a lot better, it's a shame he has Louis as his mentor. Conway Sisters will go in the next few weeks.
