Every time I see a Chesterfield taxi, I have to smile.
They are always covered in little signs saying

"Advanced bookings only"

So they can't take you directly to where you want to go? You have to go via several other places?

Do they possibly mean "Advance" by any chance?

These signs are only for private hire cars, and basically mean you can't hail them on the street, but need to book the trip in advance through their office befor they pick you up. That is of course not always the case as great many of them end up working illegally in Sheff on the weekends.

My post was a comment on Chesterfield Council not knwing the dfference between Advance and Advanced which mean entirely different things.

So a booking could be deemed to have been advanced to the company then? problem solved. You are right Cayenne, it does read a bit odd though to be honest I didn't even notice at first, lol

Advanced in this case means moving from one place to another as in "she advanced towards me".

Subtle difference. "Advanced bookings only" like in " institute of advanced motoring" or "Advanced level examinations" not "Ordinary level examinations".

Advanced. Not ordinary. More complicated, harder, the next level on:

advanced (adjective)
1 very modern:
advanced weapon systems
advanced technology
high levels of unemployment in the advanced industrial societies
2 studying or dealing with a school subject at a difficult level:
advanced learners of English
advanced physics
3 having reached a late point in time or development:
The disease was too far advanced to be treated.
4 advanced age/years used to talk about the age of someone who is old:
Despite his advanced age, he often travelled abroad.[I]
