Try searching for them in the member list and go from there. Moon cosywolf 09-07-2003, 15:23 Try First Step Trust on London Road. They're great in so many ways - a charity helping people suffering mental illness get back into work. They're inexpensive. They work hard. They do all sorts, from removals to gardening. They only charged us £30 to move house (3 men, large van, 2 hours, and they carried things up and down stairs for me) The charge has gone up now, but not by much - that was ridiculously low anyhow. Good luck Whelk 09-07-2003, 16:26 That goes beyond helpful that is insane! £30 !!!!1 cosywolf 10-07-2003, 08:41 We gave them more than double that - it seemed only fair. Would have cost us way more to get a van and friends in (friends always demand beer and pizza, the greedy things) MichaelTravis 10-07-2003, 16:07 Originally posted by cosywolf Try First Step Trust on London Road. Without laughing at the mentally ill (I have first-hand experience of such problems), the above is very funny. cosywolf 10-07-2003, 17:20   Doh! Ididn't even get that until just now peterdanw 06-08-2003, 21:12 There is a guy if u r still interested owns a veg shop @ the top of valley road, meersbrook. Can anyone recommend a cheap van hire place? Cheers Tony Ruscoe 15-09-2003, 12:18 Chill, Try this thread. There are some suggestions there... BTW, I was going to be smart and say "Have you tried searching the forum for van hire?" which if you have tried, you'll notice it says:The search term you specified (van) is under the minimum word length (4) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer. If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific. chill 16-09-2003, 09:12 Originally posted by Tony Ruscoe Chill, Try this thread. Yeah, I had tried searching but got that message too! I tried vans but nothing came up. nomme 16-09-2003, 09:25 Arnold Clarke always seem fairly resonable. Top of Spital Hill. Nomme mikey 16-09-2003, 09:36 I have moved many times and moved other people and I have hired vans, used removal companies. Hiring a van and doing it yourself is a pain and not that cost effective. First you have to go and pick up the van, which generally involves someone dropping you off Then you have to get it home Fuel it up Start humping furniture around Make many trips because it is generally a transit type van Fuel up again coz it only does 10 miles to gallon Brake a few of your things coz you never packed it right Oh and then take the van back, which involve someone dropping you off again. My advice is get someone in, not a big removal company with the huge vans, unless you have that much stuff of course, look for a 1 man band with a luton van and get him to quote you by the hour. Less hassle, after all that ranting sorry dont have any numbers though. Try local papers max 16-09-2003, 09:56 I agree with most of what Mikey says except the bit about quoting by the hour. Get a quote for the job, is my advice. When we moved here from a terrace we were quoted by the hour and told it would take 6 to 8 hours. They arrived at 8 am and we saw them off at 9 pm that night. We only moved from Crookes to Walkley. One of my new neighbours said she thought they were friends of mine as I seemed to be doing all the work. Glad that's off my chest. chill 16-09-2003, 19:34 Thanks for the tip mikey, I'll stick with getting a van this time round though. I don't have too much stuff as I am moving from rented accomadation to my first house, and I also have a big group of friends that are going to help out. I also need the van to go and pick up a sofa and bed. mini-me 29-12-2003, 23:20 squirells success with his carpet fitting service , prompted me to ask if there is any advice u good people could give? i.e on cost, roadworthyness etc be needing a luton van in early weeks of JANUARY for possibly 48 hrs?? just trying to save myself the bother of ringing round lol IDLE GIT!! thank u all!! kirky 30-12-2003, 08:01 http://www.rental-van-hire.co.uk/south-yorkshire-sheffield.html :) (y) Tony Ruscoe 30-12-2003, 08:38 Threads merged... |
