They closed down a few years ago.

There are a couple of KUGB clubs in Sheffield now. Theres one at Burngreave and one at the Source/Meadowhall. Here's the website KUGB South Yorkshire (http://www.kugb.org/areas.asp?AreaID=North&County=South+Yorkshire) There's also a club at Tankersley just up the M1.

In the centre of town there is the JKA club Shimaijurasan (http://www.shimeijurasan.com/)

Hope that helps

Sheffield shotokan karate club is an excellent karate club run by one of the most experienced and capable instructors around, Bob Hague 5th dan.
Bob trained under Rick Jackson for five years. Every one of his lessons is a wake up call even for experienced karateka and quickly dispel the surprisingly common and naive myth that shotokan is just about kicking, punching and blocking and show that it is in reality a highly effective and potentially brutal self defence system. His applications to kata are among the most original and varied I have ever seen as well as the most useful in a real situation. Bob has an extremely enviable extensive knowledge of martial arts from having trained in ju-jitsu as well as karate and teaches a variety of techniques including holds, strangles and locks. Not so long ago he taught a very interesting, and very painful lesson focusing on joint manipulation which showed a quick and simple way of restraining an attacker by forcing the wrist back on its joint nearly to breaking point which would let any attacker know it was time to walk away. I also recently learned about five different ways of applying headbutts on an opponent at his club. He will teach students ways to end a conflict quickly and cleanly by targeting particularly vulnerable areas of the body.
As well as having all the experience and technical knowhow, Bob is a particularly observant and experienced teacher and this clearly shows in lessons where he will give pointers to individuals on how to improve their standard. One of his biggest aims is to instill technical excellence in his students and in lessons he will focus particularly on getting people to perform techniques correctly and to maximise the power in their techniques by using the proper muscle groups, rather than allow individuals to plod through mindless repetition after mindless repetition.
Lessons are also the cheapest around at five pounds for an hour and a half of expert tuition three times a week. I can’t remember exactly how much it is for licensing and insurance but it’s the cheapest you’ll find as we are an amateur club and certainly no more than thirty pounds. If you’re serious about learning an effective martial art and self-defence you could do much worse than joining Sheffield Shotokan club and I honestly don’t think you could do better.

Shotokan in its purest form [not the competition form] is a brilliant fighting art take a look at lyoto machida a shotokan man that has taken ufc by storm destroying many of the top fighters with his shotokan based [amongst other arts hes trained in] fighting style.

Totally agree with that GFM, in my opinion Karate is father of Kickboxing.

Without Karate there would be no Kickboxing!!!

my martial art hero is Benny the Jet urquidez a Shotokan points fighter in his early days who went on to become the greatest kickboxer in history an unbeaten world champ for over 20 years i think its a world record in pro sport, in one of his books & in interviews he states how important karate & surprisingly katas are to him & he has his own style which is a blend of kickboxing & shotokan ,i always put kickboxing into our lessons at Sheffield Shotokan www.karatesheffield.org.uk

It is true Bob Hague is an excellent teacher. I trained under Bob in the very early 80's. He was either a 1st dan or 2nd Dan then. He trained me to my 1st Dan before I found women, football and alchohol and was with him when he went for his 4thDan Exam under Rick Jackson. He taught and coached me in many competitions, especially Kata and has so much experience within the art. To go with his skill and knowledge he is also a fantastic, genuine guy who makes everyone feel welcome which has been the way sinces he started teaching Shotokan Karate. I have not seen Bob in years but i here about him all the time as he is currently teaching my nephew the art and getting my brother-in-law tipsy on the strong stuff after.
Highly recommended and professional teacher.

I would prefer women and alchohol, not too keen on the football though.

Shotokan is not the basic style that everyone thinks it is, there are numerous techniques to be found unlocked in the Katas and ranges from body shift to ultimately destructive techniques I.E. Atemi , asphyxia and even strangulation.
There is also ground work and associated joint locking. Kime plays a major part in the training with varying impact work!
