The Bohemian will be quaking in their boots!
Expect 100% more spamming by BOHEMIAN any day now...
Merry_Legs 11-03-2010, 15:10 Excellent news. Couldn't find the fb group though. Will it be in the same place?
Merry_Legs 11-03-2010, 15:12 OK, found it lol.

Oooh I don't know. Sheffield's a big enough place (with a dearth of vegetarian restaurants).

It's one-off events at different venues for customers who miss the place - there seems to be lots on the Forum. Nothing to fear for other restaurants. Please join the Facebook group and let others who may be interested know.

this sounds great! :D
we had some super SF foodie meets at the old restaurant so it would be lovely to have the fantastic standard of food and try different venues.
heres the link (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=288411906806&ref=search&sid=1508478430.359482545..1&v=info) if anybody is struggling to find it.

I love the Bohemian
muddycoffee 11-03-2010, 16:52 I'll have to say that I wouldn't go to Kumquat Mae because of the stupid pretentious name it has. They should rename it if they want to appeal more widely.

Really? That's a bit short-sighted.

Now you've got me wondering what restaurants you would go to and if you'd only go because of the name and not the quality of the nosh. MacKumquat?

You have got to be kidding, its my favourite restaurant name ever. I dont think its pretentious, just very clever word play. Kumquat Mae was never pretentious, just great food in lovely ambience with lovely staff! I miss it !!!
Ok, so looking at the link it's kinda just pub food now, as opposed to having it's own place? I wonder why the change?
MuteWitness 12-03-2010, 07:54 Great idea, do you have a menu / price for the 28th?

The restaurant closed nearly two years ago now. So it's not so much a change - it's a rest. But they do say a change is as good as a rest.
Really nice idea - looking forward to seeing the menu!

Sorry to be the one to bring the tone down, but I think it's only fair that we hear both sides of the story!
I sincerely hope the food has changed - I ate there for a friend's birthday and it was bland and under-seasoned and very over-priced. It was priced as though we were eating in a plush restaurant, but it felt more like eating at a student mate's house, all I needed was neighbours on the telly and the plate on my lap.
And before anybody says anything - I don't work for The Bohemian, don't like that place either.

I must agree - when I went there a few years ago, I thought it was highly overpriced for the quality of the food. They were comparable to the prices of meat dishes in other restaurants, who can justify those prices as meat is generally a bit pricer than veg. The restaurant was nothing special either.
However, this new venture does sound very interesting - and seems to make a lot of sense too! I think I would like to give it a go some time.

Thanks. Points noted. Nowhere is always perfect or to everyone's taste.
Sorry you didn't like the quality of the food. It wasn't my restaurant (I am Nicky's friend) but the prices had to provide a wage to the cook and also take into account the overheads of running a restaurant. As it says in the Star article it was difficult to fill the restaurant during the week.
This was hopefully the best idea to bring Kumquat Mae back.
The event is priced at £14.50 for three courses and the pub is lovely.
BarmyArmy 17-03-2010, 17:08 out of principle and for moral reasons i will never set foot in a veggie restaurant
so you can keep you lentils!!

There is a meat/murderer option.

sorry for taking nature's option and respecting the food chain
why would a vegetarian restaurant even exist?
and more to the point why would they have a meat option?! srely that defeats the whole option
Will hopefully be there for the 28th! Really nice menu and I haven't bee in the University Arms in years.
All the best for night and looking forward to details for the next one too :-)
Good luck Nicky,fantastic idea.
Please note that if you want to come - it is bookings only. You can PM me for this.
Sorry you didn't like the quality of the food.
Maybe quality was the wrong word. I just meant it was highly overpriced considering it didn't have meat involved... so ingredients would have been a better word. I can't actually remember how the quality of the food was. If it had been bad I would have remembered, so I can only assume it was fine.
Sorry - i didn't mean to put a too negative slant on the restaurant. Like I say, I think it's a good idea and I may give it a go.
Can some one point me to a list of Vegetarian Restaurants...Its difficult to find Vegy stuff in the Mile Long menus from the standard Restaurants
