Hi Guys,

Here's hoping that you brainy computer people can help :-)

Right, I am trying to upload bits of film which I have on my pc from my camcorder so I can put them on my website.

I have studio 9 installed which came with my canon camcorder that I bought 2 months ago. I am trying to upload about 20-30 second clips onto megaupload.com (which someone on here recommended too).
The problem is that i don;t have broadband, so byt the time it gets three qaurters of the way through an upload my connection disconnects. It;s very frustrating.
I have had a look at the clips I want to upload and for a 20 second clip it is about 21 megabytes -is this the problem? Is it because I don;t reduce them in size?

Any help would be most appreciated - but please bear in mind I am new to this so don;t have much know how!

Thanks in advance,

Jane.

I would say that's the problem. A short clip for use on the web shouldn't be anywhere near that size. I would say you should be looking at 2Mb.

Make sure the resolution is a web friendly size, like 352x240 (or 320x240) and the audio quality is set low.

You may even like to consider making the video clip a DivX file, reducing the file size even more, without any loss in quality.

HI,

Many thnaks for that information but on this pinnacle studio version 9 editing software there isn;t actually DIVX option.

I have changed the resoution though to what you suggest and it is now 10mg. It's so funny as the ones I have uploaded before are only 1.5 mg for longer length of about 55 seconds so I can;t understand that, or why all of a sudden it has gone to larger sized files, very strange.

Thanks,

jane.

What is the file extension?

DivX is a stand alone product, not part of Studio. www.divx.com - you get a fully functional 15 day trial.

Have a look at the Windows Media Encoder (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5691ba02-e496-465a-bba9-b2f1182cdf24&DisplayLang=en), this is a really useful utility for converting files.

I convert and encode video professionally and stopped using Pinnacle Studio a long time ago.

Hi,

How do I find out what the file extension is?

I have downloaded the WM encoder which you suggest what do I now do with it? I have installed it but now I'm wondering where I can convert my video samples.

Thanks,

jane.

Here's how to set up WMV.

Click here (http://www.hal9001.co.uk/STUDIO.jpg) for a picture of what you need to do. I forgot to highlight the settings button, but you should get the idea.

Hi Hal,

You are so kind! That's the only thing I haven't tried yet so will let you know how I get on, thanks once more, I will give it a try later and hopefully I shall be able to do it!
