Looks like the players are protected by the PFA and pretty much cannot be sacked in this situation ... whereas hard working people (something which the Portsmouth players have not been doing) have lost their jobs

One guy said "Some players earn in 3 days what I earn in a year"

How can this be so? I think its terrible

I blame Jimmy Hill!

You cant blame Jimmy Hill entirely. I blame the previous boards about 3 years ago. They couldn't possibly contemplate that their outgoings were a lot more than their income. Paying footballers and that fat penpusher Peter Storey on ridiculous amounts of money and only getting crowds of about 20.000

I got the impression that it was more about the players being a valuable asset; sacking them would drastically reduce the value of the club, whereas selling them in the summer (if not allowed to do so before) would bring in useful money.

Also, the fact that the players have contracts, and compensation packages would need to be sorted.

These 85 workers, won't have just been sacked - they have been made redundant, and one would assume with a redundancy package.
