Plenty of scope for longer trading hours. brybry2201 11-03-2010, 17:16 http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail?r.s=sc&r.l1=1073861225&r.lc=en&r.l3=1074410825&r.l2=1074400490&type=RESOURCES&itemId=1074411173 Check out this Business link page (or any other provider) It contains info on valuation. Thanks very much:) what-dot 12-03-2010, 08:51 Maybe you should expand business hours before selling, it might add value to your business. Business Linkis great, they also do alot of free training days! brybry2201 12-03-2010, 09:05 Could do,but would it not be a good selling point "Great opportunity for increasing business by extending opening hours" Only looking for £15K or so. jongo 12-03-2010, 09:18 Could do,but would it not be a good selling point "Great opportunity for increasing business by extending opening hours" Only looking for £15K or so. If your only looking for that much then you have just valued it yourself. Put an ad up for that amount and see what happens. steveroberts 12-03-2010, 10:01 Could do,but would it not be a good selling point "Great opportunity for increasing business by extending opening hours" Only looking for £15K or so. I'd seek professional advice; a business turning over £1200/week with a value of £15K sounds like it is either way under valued or has big problems looming, for example: Your lease might be coming up and the new rent is crippling. A McDonalds might be opening up next door How did you come up with this value? Here are some factors that will affect the value of a business: 1) Its net profit after tax (i.e. the surplus generated after everything has been paid). There are industry norms which take this number and multiply it by a number applicable to your industry (technically called the price/earnings ratio) 2) The assets; for example, if somebody bought the business who was already in the chippie business, they would not have to go out and buy new kit; whereas, if someone wanted to buy the business to use the property for something else, the assets have no value at all 3) Goodwill; if someone is offering a service which compliments what a chippie does (for example a chineese/pizza takeaway), they will be able to offer an expanded service to the customers which will have a value to them. Whatever you do, you will need to provide an audited set of accounts for a prospective buyer and you need to define what it is they are buying (i.e. are you a limited company, sole trader etc); they will need to see site of your lease and, if applicable, any local authority licenses needed to trade. If you are selling your business for positive reasons; fantastic...enjoy the success of your risk taking and efforts...if for any other reasons, I wish you well in what you decide to do next. what-dot 13-03-2010, 18:32 If you just want to get rid stick it on ebay and let bidders fight it out, you will probably get more then you expected. steveroberts 19-03-2010, 06:22 Wow, do people buy businesses on ebay these days (you can tell I'm not a big user!!!)? Bouncy hire 19-03-2010, 13:29 Have a chat with your accountant , they will have a idea of the businesses value .. Paul2412 19-03-2010, 15:38 Wow, do people buy businesses on ebay these days (you can tell I'm not a big user!!!)? Plenty are listed, quite how many end with a successful sale is another thing entirely. steveroberts 20-03-2010, 06:10 You'd have to be a lunatic to buy a business off ebay; as an absolute minimum I'd want: 1) To visit the premises and meet the team 2) Three years of accounts plus latest management accounts 3) To get my accountant to delve into those accounts 4) To see copies of any existing contracts (landlord/suppliers/customers/employee etc) before even thinking of a value! brybry2201 31-03-2010, 11:37 Agent valued it @£29,950 or £24,950 for quick sale. Heres the catch................. Fees £3,600 + vat in fees. Might as well advertise it myself for £20k brybry2201 31-03-2010, 11:47 Any cheap ideas for ads? Raggy 31-03-2010, 12:27 Agent valued it @£29,950 or £24,950 for quick sale. Heres the catch................. Fees £3,600 + vat in fees. Might as well advertise it myself for £20k £24,950 - £3,600 - £630 (VAT) = £20,720 £20,000 - £advertising costs = >£20,720  brybry2201 31-03-2010, 12:32 At £20 k it should sell quicker. Sooner give the new buyer £5k discount than put it "their" pockets. indizine 31-03-2010, 12:35 Why not put a sing up at the chippy itself? If the books stack up, it should sell. If they don' tou will have to sell it at a lower price anyway. alex3659 31-03-2010, 13:13 At £20 k it should sell quicker. Sooner give the new buyer £5k discount than put it "their" pockets. :hihi::hihi::hihi::hihi:. Classic comment. Only want 15k for it. Agent values it at 25k for quick sale. I'll sell it for 20k and give a 5k discount.:roll::roll::roll:. What are the weekly running costa to achieve £1200 per week? Eg, wages, stock, rates, rent [we know £120], gas and electricity. Where is this chippy? How modern is the shop? 6x4 hours a day = 24 hours = £50 per trading hour. |
