Over the last few days there has been an item in the press relating to Winston Silcott being enlisted by the Met Police to help cut Youth Crime. From what i have seen this has enraged many.

This is because Silcott is a convicted murderer. To my knowledge although he has been cleared over the killing of a Police Officer he has served 17 years for another murder.

Should someone who has committed a crime of this magnitude be enrolled to help youths keep clear of crime??

IMO i have no problem with this as long as this is done closely inconjuction with members of the Police Force. Although not exactly role model to youths maybe he can describe his errors of his ways and why 17 years behind bars is no picnic. Any views?

I wonder if Keith Blakelock's widow will see Silcott as someone who will be suitable in the fight against crime.

What next from the Met's politically correct squad? Engin Raghip &
Mark Braithwaite as community support officers.... sometimes I really despair for this country :shakes:

I would assume though owdlad that Silcott has shown remorse for his crimes and demonstrated to the police how he can help youths from committing crime. Hence the reason why i have no issues with it.

Although i can see your pooint relating to the officers wife

Owdlads point may have been crap but there is no need to emphasise it 'pooint'!

I think these are exactly the sort of people who should be doing that work. Ex-drug addicts talking about drugs. Ex-cons etc etc. The only exception being ex-pedophiles talking to kids about the dangers of bad men.

well he is street and that gives the yout a start cos they look up to somebody who they feel a connection with.

dont people who have spent their convictions deserve a chance to move on?

maybe those types of people are the best type of people to sort out the young cos theyve done wrong so know exactly the consequences. also The best people for computer security are hackers cos they know about security and how to breach it

If Silcott can engage the young people he is to work with, and stop some of them from making the mistakes he made, then what is there to complain about?

The killing of Keith Blakelock was horrific. I can't imagine what his widow thinks or feels. But, maybe she will feel that the police using Silcott to help to prevent youths committing a similar crime in future is better than him doing nothing?
