View Full Version : What would you do for your pet?

I think it's the long grass he occasionally eats what does not want to come all the way out! :gag:

Euuugghhh !
What a vile mental image.
youwhatref 19-08-2005, 16:37 It aint nice Nick but it's funny when he's doing a fast figure of 8 with his bum almost on the floor trying to get it off! :D
Smile soon goes off when i realise the damn thing wont come out and i aint having him coming home like that! :D
Must emphasise though it happens once or twice a year and thankfully not a regular thing!
i get up at 5.45 every morning to do my dog scramble eggs
Internetowl 19-08-2005, 17:05 my new cat (kitten) is partial to roast chicken breast, tuna and cheese - wil not touch kitten food - its better fed than I am (and it knows it)
I would do nothing for my pet (cat). It's a constant pain in the arse.
I'll feed it, give it the odd stroke once or twice a year but that's it!
Still, looking on the bright side, it'll be dead soon, and it's a lot less bother than a baby-eating smelly annoying dog! :D

Wo! Ok, as much as I love my cats and Smudge will generally get whatever I have (not my choice by the way - she leaves me no time to disagree!) I don't go that far!!!!!!!!!!!!

They must have been fat cats! You're only supposed to feed them once a day!
I would do for my dog 'Max' what I do for my kids....afterall he is part of the family!
I feed him, clean up after him, nurse him when he's ill, play with him, talk to him, etc etc
I don't kiss him on the mouth as I don't my own children....
I don't dress him up in silly outfits as I don't my children....
I don't feed him rump steaks as I don't my children...
Some pet owners are a bit eccentric!
I accept that he will get old and pass away before that of my children as is the life expectancy of dogs but you have to face up to death whether it is your pet or a much loved family member...don't get me wrong I would never put a human life before that of my dog but I think I am a responsible and loving dog owner as are many others!
Last year he cost us over £500 in vets bills... the dog is over 10 years old many people thought we were silly and should have had him put to sleep....I would disagree...he had a chance and whether he was a young or an old dog he was our Max...our dog...thankfully he did pull through his bout of ill health and is now fully recovered, he remains a valued member of our family!

 Awwwww - that is so touching Shiesh - I am beside myself. Good on you for believing in him
 What haven't I done for Brude?
I've been a pair of back legs for him for a month - day and night. He couldn't even re-arrange himself in his basket if he was uncomfy - which he frequently was in his state.
Of course this meant I was wheelbarrowing him about when he needed to relieve himself too :( The poor soul was so embarrased
And as if that wasn't bad enough, he has been trained not to use the plants in the garden, so we had to perform these antics on the public patches of grass nearby - in full view of the neighbourhood :suspect: (he wasn't permitted to drag his feet across the concrete of the pen he has in the garden whilst in this state)
And we won't mention the vets fees
Elphi 24 19-08-2005, 20:35 ah well ive got a 10 year old bichon frise who has cost me about £8000 in vets bills over the years! Fortunately I got some pet insurance which has covered about £5k of it!! But I cook fresh chicken/fish for her, boiled rice - carry her upstairs when she wants to have a lie down up there (get out of the way of my daughter!!!
DragonofAna 19-08-2005, 20:39 I put his dried dogfood in his bowl. I make sure he has plenty of water. I stroke him, and on the odd occassion I chase him round the garden - well it aint a big garden.
In return he greets me when I get home each day. He never messes in the house. He barks like mad and scares strangers off.
Fair exchange.
Thing is that before my ex decided we were going to have a dog I had a real phobia about them. I still do but it aint so bad these days. My ex definitely isn't getting custody of the dog.

beautynbeast 19-08-2005, 20:41 what was wrong with him strixs, and what treatment did he have to have? will this be an on going problem or is brude ok now?
i really worry about my bullmastiffs back end going as its normal in this breed of dog.
i would never have the strenth to wheel barrow him to the garden to piddle so i guess id be investing in a jcb :o
He had a ruptured disk BnB. The soft gunge from inside the disk leaked out and crushed his spinal chord. It took ages for it to be diagnosed (none of the five vets he saw could find it) coz it was much higher up into the ribcage than normal.
It was only diagnosed when he got to the specialist at thurnscoe. They sedated him and operated immediately. If he'd got there one day later we'd have lost him. His symptoms had been coming on for a week by that time.
When they opened him up they found a piece of disk that had welded itself to his spinal chord. They had to drill out a piece of bone to relieve the crushing effect.
He's almost as right as rain now, but a little delicate and less agile due to the amount of time he's had to spend inactive, so he has some muscle wastage we need to excercise off carefully
beautynbeast 19-08-2005, 21:17 crickey, i bet your heart was in your mouth.
glad he is safe and sound now.
its heart breaking when you see your pet in pain so i bet it was a tough time for you to.
give brude big loves from me
Luckily he regained some use of his legs just before my back gave up the ghost ;)
They're short and heavy these beagles :suspect:
I look after all my pets (zoo) like children, after all they are part of the family...
4, dogs...patch, scooby, barney, toby
2, cockatiels... jack and charlie
2, Red-Rump Parakeets... mork and mindy :D
1, budgie... joey
2, guinea pigs, bubble and squeak...
& the 8gold members.... at the bottom of the yard (fish)
i love them all.............:)
crowefan 20-08-2005, 21:34 I love my dogs to death!!!!!
but always rememeber that quote from the film
THE TRUTH ABOUT CATS AND DOGS
"you can love your dog, just don't LURVE your dog"

Sick sick person, this is not even a little bit funny.
You should not be allowed a pet.

i wouldn't take it to heart - I don't know if it was just a joke, or whether he was serious but I tried to just ignore it and hope that the cat lives a happy life (he probably goes out a lot and goes somewhere fab in the mean time lol!).
Try not to cast judgement on people in particular- believe me it can lead to you (even if you don't find it fair) being chastised for it!
Just try to ignore comments like that as, I believe, everyone else has :D. You know nobody agrees ;)
