chefkicker 08-03-2010, 12:28 Hi everyone
Following off from the immense success of our last show at this new venue,
AFK Promotions are promoting another event at the same venue.
The venue is
www.skatecentral.co.uk
It has a capacity of about 1200 (So we have been told).
There will be fights under Kickboxing (Oriental rules which are very similar to those of K-1) ,Muay Thai and also MMA (mixed Martial Arts).
AFK will be fielding a large percentage of their fight squad (allowing for illnesses, injuries and opponents showing up :hihi:) and also local clubs such as Kapap , SDF, WildwildMMA and Brian Aikens World of Martial Arts have already pledged their support.
Fights to watch out for:
Michael Gabbitas (kapap) fighting Semi PRO MMA.
Michael has proven KO Power and is a known smashing machine.
He holds the record for the fastest KO in MMA.
Jacob Constantinou (Brian Aikens) , at age 19 Jacob has shown he has a superb talent and is improving all the time both in his ground game and also his stand up is improving as he absorbs knowledge and sharpens up on the finer points.
Jacob will be having his 2nd Semi PRO Contest.
Ant Stuchbury (AFK) will be defending his title (which he won by default when his opponent went missing and turned his phone off!!!)
Ant is out to prove that he can win the title as it was meant to be won.
Yousif Ibrahim (AFK). Pound for pound, Yousif is arguably Sheffield's best kickboxer. This will be his comeback fight after having just dramatically recovered from chicken pox !!! :help:
Yousif has just started back in the gym and is slowly getting his strength back.
Yousifs fight career over the last two years has been plagued by recurring injury which was then followed by chicken pox.
Marco Portaluri (Kapap) , still undefeated Marco is still searching for a challenger. Marco looks set to be ready for an area title very soon if he keeps up his winning ways. He is 67kg if anybody knows anyone ;)
SDF are fielding their second generation fight squad who all acquitted themselves admirably last time out at skate central.

chefkicker 08-03-2010, 17:45 How many titles this time and is MR Ant Stuchbury fighting some one worthy or one of your mr nobodys
P.S
I just thought id post this reply on the other thread from Wufu
Wufu writes :
" sammy , easy fights from AFK?
Beccys a novice and she fought a novice , she was just a lot stronger on the night.
Ant , of course he didn't want the belt in those circumstances , who would? , he sold a lot of tickets to friends and family, so it wasn't only him who were let down on the night by the no show.
and Gaz , well im a mate of Gaz , and a few nights before he was offered to face Chris who was prepared for a fight. Gaz at first wanted a demo bout with Chris and was worried as he didn't know anything about Chris and is only a novice with 1 interclub and a few sparring sessions in class. But he thought sod it and took the fight and he again like Beccy just happened to be stronger on the night. "
I guess this answers your questions, now you can go and find your box of tissues :hihi:
superstuch 08-03-2010, 18:26 sammy1ball is back, are you saying that wez glenton is a no body
chefkicker 08-03-2010, 22:37 I think that is perhaps what he meant to say. :loopy:
We all know thatr Wes Glenton is a good fighter and has always won on Showdown (by TKO I believe).
It also proves that Sammy No balls has very little understanding of kickboxing.
More to the positive, Ant's title fight will be a cracker.
I was training some of the undercard fighters tonight. I can see a hunger I have never seen in Gaz's eyes!!!
His foot is swollen like a balloon from kicking his opponent yet he was in the gym training and he doubled up on the classes!!! He was in the gym from 7pm till almost 10pm !!!
brianaiken 08-03-2010, 23:09 Well woody wants to fight again with a couple more amateur fights and hopefully a couple more wins underneath him before he turns semi pro, jacob is fighting his second semi pro again inproving very fast as earlier stated by farhad. Just waiting for josh and ashley to confirm. looking forwards to this one again as the last was very busy and as most people said the best so far, i agree comparing to the show before, the crowd had doubled. I was the only club from sheffield doing the mma on the last show but this time, i hope the other sheffield clubs fight too making more of a name for this steel city.

Last show was dinamite. Joe Mcogvern finished his man quickly and Gabbitas always goes for war! The thaiboxing was better than the MMA this time though.
chefkicker 11-03-2010, 18:04 Last show was dinamite. Joe Mcogvern finished his man quickly and Gabbitas always goes for war! The thaiboxing was better than the MMA this time though.
This time hopefully Joe's next opponent lasts a little longer , same goes for Gabbitas' opponent this time :hihi:
What can i say? Both men are smashing machines!!! :help:
chefkicker 13-03-2010, 22:24 Stop Press:
Yousif Ibrahim and Rachel Crosby (both from AFK) are both matched up!!!
Yousif is matched against a very tough fighter from the North East with an identical record.
Rachel is matched against an undefeated girl from Ireland.
Nice one
What about Gaz, Willis, Ant, Campsil and Bec?
chefkicker 13-03-2010, 23:36 Nice one
What about Gaz, Willis, Ant, Campsil and Bec?
Ant is matched for his title defence.
Becky, im still asking around for her and same goes for Andy Campsill.
Gaz , there are a few options for Gaz at the 78kg limit. There are quite a few 78kg novices coming through the system.
superstar1 15-03-2010, 12:08 How many titles this time and is MR Ant Stuchbury fighting some one worthy or one of your mr nobodys
I wouldnt say that Nick Grundy was a nobody i watched his fight a few weeks earlier and it was quite good , i know kombat sports had their own tournament the same week so who knows why there was a no show ??

What is he like ? I was told by Shaun that he was quite a good boxer and had boxed in the army with something like 6 bouts under his belt. Who would have won in your opinion him or Ant?
There are no 'nobodies' when it comes to competitive fighting; everyone stepping into the ring is showing a level of character and personal courage that is worth noting. It takes a strong person to put themselves on the line in the arena of full-contact fighting, and they should be congratulated on that, win or lose.

He did look good and strong but i ve only seen ant fight once and that was a while ago so i wouldnt like to say !

SDF Fighters:

So these credentials warrant a title fight ?.Thats why AFK are a joke
chefkicker 17-03-2010, 21:57 So these credentials warrant a title fight ?.Thats why AFK are a joke
Well i know of another promotion in Sheffield where a fighter with 2 LOSSES was allowed to fight for an English title (??? ) :loopy:
That was an ENGLISH as opposed to an Area title. 0 WINS 2 losses warrant an English title on showdown. I rest my case :hihi:
You call AFK a joke yet we have one of the highest win ratios in Sheffield both at home and away. AFK fighters have only had 6 losses in the last 2 years.
What are your issues with AFK? Is it jealousy? If it is I really do feel for you .
There there, let me give you a tissue to dry your eyes with.

My mistake I forgot to mention raw novice Andrew Campsill who will be having his very first bout on this card.
Andrew is a student who I am very proud of.
He came into the gym initially weighing something ridiculous like 13 and a half to 14 stone (most of it was fat i must admit).
He used to come to the shows as a spectator and saw the AFK fighters as role models.
Gradually he started to train more than just once a week and soon found himself on the receiving end of ritualistic beatings of the fighters.
When the AFK fighters would fight away from home , Andrew often drove us to the fights totally off his own back!
Last year Andrew also met his wife Danielle through the club. They married in August Noel (the mad rev) was the countersignatory at the wedding ceremony in Victoria Church (town centre).
Andrew's lovely wife Danielle has given him permission to take his training one step further and have a go in the ring.
Andrew personifies the AFK spirit of a true sportsman and win lose or draw we are already very proud of him for wanting to step up and have a go.
jaromskis 20-03-2010, 13:23 Im more bothered about who the MMA guys are? Gabbitas fighting MMA or thai?

Rachel Crosby (AFK) and Becky Usher (AFK) , AFK's terrible twosome are both matched up against instructor's Girlfriends from Ireland!!!
:help:
They are coming back from a win each so they have to take hard fights! :hihi:
Yousif Ibrahim (AFK) has been matched against a very capable fighter from K-Star (birminghams version of Wicker camp) so his fight will be another hard one.
Who was it who said AFK get "easy fights"

Good luck with your show.
Henrietta 26-03-2010, 19:51 Last show was dynamite. The thaiboxing was better than the MMA this time though.
There was no thaiboxing on the last show ;) :hihi:
.
chefkicker 26-03-2010, 21:17 There was no thaiboxing on the last show ;) :hihi:
.
Thats right we did not have any Thaiboxing on , the fights were under KICKBOXING rules.
People get confused between kickboxing and thaiboxing.
1.Just because people are fighting in shorts and kicking with the shins does not make it thaiboxing.
2. Just because they are kicking to the legs as well as body and head does not make it thaiboxing.
3.Just because both fighters are using the knees does not make it thaiboxing.
Kickboxing have all of the above elements these days, people have got to realise that kickboxers (a) kick with the shins (b) block with the shins (c) kick to the legs as well as the body and head (d) Use the knees as well as the shins and feet.
Its like assuming that the fights were BOXING just because both fighters are punching each other in the face with boxing gloves on :hihi:
So what exactly is the difference between Thai & kickboxing?
chefkicker 27-03-2010, 09:19 So what exactly is the difference between Thai & kickboxing?
Thaiboxing is a THAI sport. As such it is surrounded by history and various actions what would seem like rituals to the western mind.
Thaiboxing bouts generally begin with the Ram Muay which is a traditional dance where both boxers will symbolise digging an opponents grave or shooting a deer and the Wai Kru which is a series of 3 bows in the corner to show homage to the camp and instructor (among other things) each bow signifiying a different thing.
While a bout is in progress , a Thaiboxing bout will have the thai music which is traditionally played by a band and speeds up as the fight progresses. Over here we simply use a CD.
Thaiboxing bouts are scored differently to boxing and kickboxing bouts.
A Boxing or Kickboxing bout is scored more visually i.e. you can watch a boxing or kickboxing bout and pretty much judge who won.
A Thaiboxing bout is scored on cumulative effect and the last 2 rounds carry more weight than rounds 1-3. As a general rule, round 1 is often scored even with a footnote on who did slightly better (this often does not count towards the final score).
A "thai" boxing bout without the above elements is quite simply a kickboxing bout.
Hence why many shows are quick to advertise to camps that they use "thai scoring".
Shows thaty score workrate or number of shots landed or that score hands equally to legs are referred to as using "kickboxing scoring".
"kickboxing scoring" is more easy to understand for the western eye.
I hope this answers a few questions you may have.
Biggest difference - you can use your elbows in Thai rules!
How come the fighters have to wear boxing gloves and yet elbows (which are far sharper & harder than knuckles) aren't covered? I've never quite understood that.
The gloves are primarily there to stop you breaking your hands, not to protect your opponent.
chefkicker 28-03-2010, 09:25 Biggest difference - you can use your elbows in Thai rules!
Not always LOL. There are plenty of Thaiboxing bouts that do not allow elbows. Only top level thaiboxers fight with elbows in the UK.
Anyway, moving on from the whole Thai/Kick boxing differences.
We will be having bouts from both disciplines on the card.
We will also be having MMA bouts featuring fighters from Kapap and Brian Aiken's gym.
Thats all 4 of our lads matched up now, looking forward to this.....
My friends from New York will be over for the show, their also looking forward to it.. cummmmon...
Craig.

Craig.
It is hard to say which fights on the card excite me the most. Marco Portaluri last time , his and Goose's fight was easily the fight of the night!!!
Marco is very skilled and exciting to watch as he has power as well as skill.
Michael Gabbitas is just BRUTAL!!! I dont think theres many around at 77kg locally who can stand and trade with Michael. For the MMA that is.
Mind you, im sure he would give a lot of the kickboxers in that division a whole world of trouble.

The SDF fighters have pulled out for this time.
Shane Beard and Simon had booked a holiday too close to the show so it would be unlikely that he would be at 100%.
Sean has exams to concentrate on, Paul is on a stag weekend that very same weekend, Joe McGovan had a tattoo done so was unable to train.
We had Wayne matched but he had a serious knee injury and is unable to do a great deal.
Its the way things go sometimes. Mind you , it is still possible to have a show without SDF, we have plenty from the rest of Sheffield's premier league anyway so im sure we will be OK.

chefkicker 25-04-2010, 15:13 My mistake I forgot to mention raw novice Andrew Campsill who will be having his very first bout on this card.
Im bringing this to the top to highlight it.
Andrew is looking sharper all the time!
I cant wait for him to make his debut!!!
We are all proud of you Andrew! You are a good student and a very dear friend!
Well done Andrew... win or loose mate.. you won before even climbing into the ring..
Craig.
less than 2 weeks... looking forward to this.. busy nite for me and Ian....

Wrapping hands and padworking 4 fighterS?
Sounds like a walk in the park LOL
All I have to do is make sure every bugger turns up and do the accounts and make sure the figures turn out fine :D

Then on top of that I have 4 (or is it 5 dont know yet LOL) Fighters on and I also have to make sure the Irish are well looked after and make sure that no one else has lost his bottle when hearing the name Michael Gabbitas :hihi:

chefkicker 11-05-2010, 16:59 What were the results for all the fights Farhad?
And when will the pics be available online??
Im sorry if I have delayed putting up the results but I have been extremely busy.
Straight back to work almost straight after the weekend.
The most exhausting thing about the show was taking the 2 Irish teams to and from 2 different airports.
Then there was that cheeky lass from Wicker camp who was bullying the poor old bouncers :hihi:
Did anyone go to the show?? Any results yet
All our supporters loved the show , we sold about 100 tickets, and everyone thought it was very cool and great fights... well run , and most importantly no ********s causing trouble, allowing everyone to enjoy themselves...
Craig.
chefkicker 19-05-2010, 08:42 FIGHT RESULTS,
Sorry for it being so long overdue but I have been mad busy with work.
Long story but Ive been forced to work longer hours than is normal :(
1. Jim Henry O Neil (UMA) Vs James Pierce (Wicker) (Thaiboxing) =
James Pierce showed sharper kicking especially on the leg kicks and won on points.
2. Daniel France (Thanapron) Vs Jack Harvey (SSJ) =Oriental Rules
Jack Harvey TKO'd Daniel France in the 3rd round with punches.
3.Barry Wood (Brian Aiken's ) Vs James Brown (UMA) = MMA
Barry Wood won by Rear Naked Choke in the 1st round (i went backstage to sort something out and next thing i heard cheering and realised it was all over ,... GUTTED to have missed it.)
4. Ailsa Gill ( Wicker) Vs Kay Magee (Black Widow) = Thaiboxing
This was World War 3!!!
Ailsa won on points doing serious damage with the knees. Kay was tough and came back with strong punches in the last round.
5. Demo Bout , due to a local fighter being declared ill by the medical staff.
So that Michael Coates could still have a "workout" his junior instructor Alan Baptist (both from Keri's gym) agreed to have a demo bout of sparring (that turned into a full contact battle in the last round anyway).
Good display from 2 young lads.
6. Andrew Campsill (AFK) Vs Rob Watkinson (Thanapron)
Due to a weight difference this was also a Demo match.
Andrew showing faster boxing and landing the odd head kick and spinning back kick, Rob scoring well with solid leg kicks and powerful right hands.
7. Shaun Needham (Kapap) Vs Steve Allen (Keri's) = Kickboxing
Shaun powered his way to victory in his debut match.
Well done to Shaun the schoolteacher ;)
8. Becky Usher (AFK) Vs Catherine Costigan (Ireland) = Oriental Rules
Both girls clashed heads in the clinch and the Doctor stopped the contest in the first 15 seconds.
NO CONTEST!!!! (massive anticlimax)
9. Michael Gabbitas ( Kapap) Vs Lee Worcester (SSJ) = Oriental Rules
Michael won on points in what was a real war! Lee wooding showed a lot of heart and a solid chin.
10. Jamie Woodward (Wicker) Vs Andy Green (Spotland Bridge) =Thaiboxing
Jamie was doing well with the knees, but then he threw one after the break which lead Andy Green unable to continue.
NO CONTEST !!!
11.Rachel Crosby (Independent fighter ) Vs Emma Pye (Ireland)
=Oriental Rules
Emma Pye used her longer reach well and won on points.
12. Dan Dixon (Keri's) Vs Chris Hudson (UMA) = Full Contact
Both guys went toe to toe dropping each other and giving each other standing counts.
Dan Dixon won the contest due to having one Knockdown more than Chris.
Both men had to go outside for fresh air afterwards!!!
13. Marco Portaluri (Kapap) Vs Danny Missin (Dewsbury) = Oriental Rules
DRAW
Marco showed a lot of skill and excellent footwork but Danny would never take a step back!
MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING :
YOUSIF IBRAHIM (AFK) Vs SCOT DIXON (WOLFSLAIR!!!) = Kickboxing
The more experienced Scot Dixon won a very close decision against Yousif.
This was Yousif's first loss in what has been a step up in class for him.
Yousif feels he has gained more in this fight than he has done in previous contests.
This contest has also helped cement further the friendship between AFK and the legendary Wolfslair and links between the two will start to become more frequent.
chefkicker 19-05-2010, 20:53 congrats mate.
Thanks Buddy, see you at the next one!
