Hi

I'm having problems using WinAVI to convert an avi file into DVD format.. it seems to work fine and it changes the avi into a DVD-VIDEO format for me to burn in under 30 mins.

The resulting files play fine in PowerDVD with all the chapters working and everything.

But when I burn it, that works fine as well, when it comes to playing it on my DVD player downstairs the DVD seems to pause on a chapter and it goes silent for 3 seconds and then skips back to the same chapter over and over ??????

Its getting very annoying now.

What am I doing wrong please?
And how can I fix the problem.

I have tried using VSO DivX to DVD, and that was quick as well, but the resulting files were out of synch- video and audio.. but the chaptering worked!

Anyone??
Thanks!

Sync problems are usually the result of coverting a NTSC film into PAL....Theres different frame rates (29 for NTSC, 25 for PAL i think).

What version of WinAVI are you using, some of them (esp 7.5) are quite flaky.

i generally convert my avi files in Adobe Premiere and burn from there? this does take ages and i wouldnt say the quality is very good. What other ways can i do this, i had a trial copy of win avi but it only converted something like 15 mins of the film. Are there any programs i can use for free to conver AVI to DVD?

have you tried buring a dvd without using "set chapter length"?

or if you do use chapter length make sure it is 600 (10mins) and not 300.

Fast isn't always good Angelus.
I use Tmpeg Encoder 3.1 (or above).

It works fabulous and no sync problems but it does takea while.
Picture quality is always perfect.

It has a lot of authoring and editing options too which make it far more useful.

I use cucusoft converter to convert to mpeg the I use nero vision express to DVD.Ive found if i convert to mpeg first the process to DVD is much faster and you can sqeeze more movies onto dvd.

ive had real problems with this...

i used nero vision in nero7premium to convert avi files to dvd format...

the encode process took absolutely ages - over an hour for 90 mins of video...
then it took ages to burn to dvd...

the visual results were fine, but after about 10 minutes playing, the sound fell out of sync with the video...

from what ive read on here and other forums there could be a number of problems causing this:

Nero is crap at encoding avi to dvd
I am converting NTSC video to PAL, and thats what causes the problem

So the question i want to ask is: what is the best solution to this problem...

i see people recommending virtualdub - will that restore the sound to be in sync? but then again - will it still take bloody ages to encode with nero?

people have mentioned something called cucusoft.... what is it - is it any good?

any advice on what the best solution to this is would be really appreciated...
