My brother is 19 and in full time education for another 2 months and lives with his pregnant missus...the both lost their jobs a month ago due to the place unexpectedly closing down. With the baby on the way they cant stay where they are as they are under her dads roof and athough its a seperate kitchen bathroom and bedroom its too small, they're too restricted and her dads having another baby so there wont be enough room.

Their issue at the moment is what can they do to get money while he is in education and she is pregnant. She is 21 weeks pregnant now, they realy want their own place but dont know how they stand with the job centre as they fail to get back in touch when they ring...or with housing allowance...

Can anyone offer any advice. The housing allowance is only until my brother finishes full time education. They only tried for a child because they were working at the time and everything was stable with finances...they had no idea where they were working was closing down...my brother cant get a job except for working nights cause hes at college every day...

so basically, he's due to cease being a student before the child arrives?

Have they had the FSA financial information pack from the midwife?

Have they been to a stand alone job centre or a one-stop-shop?

They went to job centre plus and was told to phone up...when she phoned up she was told if she was to claim the money with her being under 18 she would have to speak to someone else in the job centre...shes rang three times now and not had any call back.

The baby is due 26th July...i know shes due to see the midwife so she will be asking advice but its all really difficult for them cause they have no income at the moment whatsoever...and are having to do odds and ends jobs and borrow.

i know she is really upset as she went for a job at RSPCA reception she got past all interviews they told her she had the job then later rang to say they did realise she was 17 and that she couldnt have the job....she was gutted :(

Can she maybe do avon? I know its not alot but it will hopefully get them alittle bit more income, than they have plus if shes pregnant she will be able to do it at her own pace etc.

Also could they try and sell afew things they dont need maybe to get alittle more income to save.
Could your brother possibly not do odd jobs for people?
I am just trying to think of little ways to make cash for them

That's not on

Now is the time to get insistent - insist on making an appointment for sitting down and talking through her claim with an advisor. Don't be palmed off, but stay calm and don't shout - just be quietly insistent. If that doesn't work - instigate their complaints procedure

Claims are normally backdated to when you first made contact with the office, so ensure she's not fobbed off over that too
