I go to listen, but not very often.

I did sing once, or try to, but I must stress I was completed "off my head"

Love it! Can't keep me off it. Not good for my rock image but it's great fun. Especially when DJ Shadowman is the DJ!

Love it.

There isn't the same karaoke scene up here as there is in Birmingham mind, which distresses me and resorts me to family visits more often than i'd like.

Karaoke is for the Diva in Birmingham, more cabaret than karaoke. People get agents to come and watch them sing and everyone has their own discs to save looking in the books (me included).

I know three "scene regulars" that made it onto Stars In Their Eyes and I used to see Hayley Evetts and Mark whatever his second name was all the time before they got onto Pop Idol. I even used to see ex members of "21st Century Girls", who would get drunk and sing their own song much to the amusement of the masses.

Everyone goes to the same pubs 7 nights a week and the KJ's were treated like royalty to ensure maximum singing time. It was a bad night if you didn't get up more than 3 times.

The best karaoke i've found up here is at the Parish Oven in Thorpe Salvin on a fri (which is today hurray!!)- bit of a trek I know but the best friday night out I've ever had - proper old boys pub, frank sinatra ahoy but a fabby night - even if Darin the KJ says I only know miserable songs.

I have a fail-safe method toward karaoke:

1 I only sing songs I know, that is, where I am familiar with the words, the key it is written in, and 9 times out of ten, the chords. I rarely choose a song I can't play to myself on the guitar.

2 I only sing by myself, never in groups and rarely in pairs.

3 I don't need a drink to sing but seems as it happens to be in a pub....,

4 I won't sing more that 3 times in any one night.

5 If you can't read the screen you shouldn't even be up there.

6 I seem to have this knack of following The Worst Singer In The Pub every time.

I enjoy it because it's so easy. Nice to perform without having to set your gear up, take it down and worry about it not working etc.

My moment of humour came a few weeks ago when in The Sheffield (Lodge Moor) - I sung YMCA using the words: It's fun to drink at the Three Merry Lads (one of the Sheffield's nearest rivals). And they let me back in!

Still, pass me my Gibson anyday....,

It's a great a laugh. Although, so far, I've never had the bottle to do it. Maybe Saturday night though in the White Lion I might just make my debut.
