Harry my golden Lab is sheding his winter coat :( and today i sent him to be groomed as bathing him had become a nightmare due to the hair every where. A friend mentioned i could get tablets or powder to stop him loosing so much hair. . Do they work? Can you recommend one and how much are they?

I heard black Labs are worse for malting so glad i picked him :D
thank you x

I don't know about pills, I wouldn't want my dog to hang on to old smelly hair to be honest. It's a natural process.
I can however thoroughly recommend a Furminator. We bought ours after all the good reviews on here, and haven't looked back. They are quite expensive to buy, but you'll save oodles of ££ on the groomers over the years

I agree on the Furminator - absolutely brilliant and they seem to have come down a lot on price on E-bay (http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=furminator&_sacat=See-All-Categories) lately.

Furminators rule- I've bought one as a present for at least 6 friends in the last few months, all of whom were struggling with the amount of fur that their pets were shedding. We can get a whole black bag full of fur off Molly when we have a good go at her with the Furminator.

I've also bought official ones and cheaper ones which are probably fakes and never noticed a difference in their ability to do the job ;)

He will shed till april time, my mate has a black lab and I have a golden lab. But I have a dark carpet which is a pain cos you can see it all. But then again the carpet comes up fab when hoovered.

I don't think stopping a dog shedding ,surely that is not right, I would be careful before using these things and ask the vet

Yea but you cant see black fur on black trousers so it saves you having to rub yourself with selotape at work :hihi: My mum had a goldren retevier. It was a nightmare. Lol. I think theys why i picked dark furred dogs for myself. :hihi:

You daft bat!!!! :hihi:

I must say, I was a bit doubtful that it could be as good as everybody said - but when I got mine, I gave Zeb a going over with a normal comb, then tried the Furminator - and the hair came out in handfuls!!!

Zeb's a GSD cross, so he sheds a lot of undercoat, which goes everywhere (especially on my clothes ). My neighbour's got a boxer and found a Furminator equally good for her, removing more hair than you think would be possible on such a short-haired breed.

The one cat adores being furminated, so much so that all i have to do is call fuuuuuuurrrrrrminator and whoosh she's there looking keen. I have nearly enough spare fur for a jumper now but oddly the cat doesn't seem to be bald.
