I might come along! How much is it?

Jamie

Martin_s

Well I'll be there as planned... but just one question..

Is that the first session?

I'm assuming it's on hold because of the uni exams n'all...

Jamie

OK ... a few more details ...

The format of the classes at the forum usually goes something like this ...

The lessons start at 7.30.

beginners lesson (about 40 mins) - this is good for everyone.

improvers lesson (about 30 mins) - this is also good for everyone (beginners can have a go).

merrengie circle (about 20 mins) - this is suitable for beginners and experts alike (and is a lot of fun).

advanced lesson (about 30 mins) - hehehe.

line dance (about 10 mins) - suitable for all.

The Lessons end at about 9.30 and the dance floor is free for you to practice your thing (dancing) ... all night (unlil 1am) if you like.

Wear somthing casual and some sensible shoes (I usually wear trainers).

We'll meet up at the halcyon (pub) at 7.00. It's just down the road (ie. division street) from the forum.

If your coming, please PM me so I know to expect you.

- Jamie

Mean't, was this the first session this new year...

I know the uni society run the forum class so with them having exams I figured they're not running any until then...

Anyway... to reiterate the question in another way... are there any classes before the planned group trip on the 24th?

Jamie

Hi Martin,

The official 'forum forum salsa outing' is on the 20th (not 24th).

The forum has been open for dancing on tuesdays throughout the festive period. Classes did stop for the last 2 Tuesdays in December ... when they just had the place open for "social dancing".

As of the 6th ... it's business as usual.

There are classes on the 13th ... but most people will be coming for the 'forum forum salsa outing' on the 20th !!

Remember ... we are meeting in the halcyon at 7.00pm on the 20th.

The halcyon bar is just down from the forum on division street ... here is a map:

http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?pc=S37SB&scale=10000

If you turn up after 7.30pm ... and there is no-one in the halcyon ... just go straight in to the forum.

They will charge u 2.50 (i think) for the classes there.

I think I shall probably come for a laugh.

It's years since I tried any kind of dancing that doesn't involve lots of alcohol and a busy nightclub (apart from my Dining Room and the odd few times I stupidly let my ex persuade me that I needed to join him line dancing 'for a laugh').

Is it just Jamie, Martin, Mosher and Starchild so far then?? (Oh and Tina Jones - sorry Tina :o )? And maybe me of course....... Anyone else planning to join us there?

Do you know, I'm tempted! I usually head to the gym on Tuesdays, but this could be good exercise too. I've pencilled it into my diary and may make a guest appearance....unless something happens at home base, in which case I'm back on the bar there again! Tempted.....

Hey! Moshy..

The official forum forum salsa outing is NEXT WEEK ... the 20th (next Tuesday).

I am going tonight (I go every Tuesday) ... a few other forum peeps have decided to come along tonight for a 'sneak preview' ... which of course they are more than welcome to do.

I think the vast majority of people are coming next week though moshy.

See you there !!

Is this Salsa thing highly energetic? Is it non stop for an hour or two? What's the deal?

Jamie

It's as energetic as you want it to be CR.

There is a bar there, so you can have breaks etc for a drink :)

myself and Fuzzy went this evening. I have to admit neither of us had the guts to give it a go (we are calling it a observation evening!) but up for it next Tuesday. There was loads of people a real cross section and the beginners class did'nt look too difficult:wow:

There you go CRB - you should come along - it's not that scary (apparently). I was watching people at a class in St Mary's tonight - I think maybe I should be a bit scared (it wasn't beginners though, so might be alright).
Hopefully see you there

Hell no.... I know the doormen and some staff at the Forum.... I'd be the laughing stock of the Security Trade.

Although admittedly it does sound like fun.

I also think they salsa dancing at the Showroom... now that might tempt me to come along!

DaB - do you REALLY care about what they think? If something's fun its fun - they'll be the ones missing out.
Who knows what days Showroom anf the Point do Salsa ???? Coz I really need a different day to Tuesday - if it is fun that is.

Also - can I wear my trainers?? I'm so sad that I need to - but shall i be able to boogie properly?? Jamie - tell me please.

Hiyabeing:

I used to go loads in traniers ... and you see a lot of people there in them (esp. the guys). You can dance in them OK ... but they might look terribly smart ... well ... mine didn't look smart !!!.

Feel free to wear trainers.

DaBaouncer:

We could always dress you up (my mom has a lovely long blonde wig) and sneak you past your fellow door men if you're at all worried about your street cred ;-)

No seriously mate ... it is a lot of fun ... and you should give it a go if you get the chance ... and Tuesdays at the forum is an ace class.

Are they still running classes at the showroom? ... I thought those were run by these guys: http://www.atasteofsalsa.co.uk/

I believe they are now back at 'The Point' on snig hill (used to be under the boardwalk) and their class is also on Tuesdays.

There is 'VIVA SALSA' at Cubana's on trippit lane ... not been there yet ... but it does have an excellent reputation ... and is on the first sunday of every month ... 8.00pm onwards.

If there is enough interest we could arrange to go there (and other places) in future.

I'm sure if I pluck up the courage to have a go next week there will be reports of my exploits for you to read on the forum. Hopefully no photos from the paparazzi though !

Will have to swot up beforehand - can't be doing not knowing what the moves are called etc [especially mosherchick's 'spinning round' moves !] - anyone know a good site ? Also gonna have to have a go at 'mirror boogying' - sounds fun !

Hope I can move out of beginners class by say this time next year :P

Yeah was good, unfortunately I had little sleep previous night and combined with not having danced before I made a right fool of meself. But as a girl that was dancing with me said, you gotta stick at it and start from somewhere [she had been 3 times before and seemed like she'd been doing it forever !]

A REPEAT PERFORMANCE !!! .......

Due to the massive success of the last salsa meet ... I thought it might be a cool idea if we did it all again !!!? ... maybe even make it a regular thing ...

We can have monthly salsa meet ... where we meet up for a drink before (probably in the halycon) ... and then go on to salsa at the forum.

In the weeks between this organised meet ... you can (if you like) just make your own way to the forum ... where no doubt you will see me and several other sheffield forum regulars.

A monthy organised meet will probably be a good idea for those of us who'd like to give salsa a go ... but feel a bit unsure about going alone.

Let me know what you think ... is this a good idea !?
